Rubio Takes Tough Stance on Iran: ‘We Need to Begin to Prepare People’ For Potential Conflict

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio Says U.S. Should

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio (R) (File photo)

During a discussion with the Council on Foreign Relations last week, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) was asked about how he would deal with Iran and their nuclear ambitions. Rubio’s answers, to the point and revealing, indicate that the senator and possible vice presidential candidate has more than a just passing knowledge of the radical regime’s ideology.

Rubio also made one thing very clear: if he were commander-in-chief he would not let Iran develop a nuclear weapon and would use military force to prevent it.

He was asked point blank by moderator Richard Stengel, “But you would — just to be straight about it — but you would sanction a strike before you would tolerate a nuclear Iran?”

Rubio replied, “Yes. And I think we need to begin to prepare people for that.”

He went on, “I think…the people of the world appreciate when their leaders walk them through this process and explain this is what we’re working on, and more importantly, these are the stakes of a nuclear Iran.”

Watch Rubio’s comments here:

Rubio asserts that Iran is a different type of enemy than the world has ever seen. Should the country ever be successful in developing a nuclear weapon , he explained, it would be the first time in human history that a government as radical as Iran had the technology at their disposal.

Rubio also referred to Iran as “a country that says its unifying national goal is the eradication of Israel” and one that actively supports terrorism.

“We need to begin to explain that to people,” Rubio said. “There’s real implications to this.”

Rubio tried to soften his comments by saying that he is not “rooting” for war with Iran and hopes that sanctions against the country will have an impact. But he also said he recognizes the potential for future escalation.

“If history is any judge of it, if you recall what the Iranians were willing to put up with in terms of loss of human life in their war against Iraq, it had to get so atrocious that it actually threatened the regime’s future before they backed off that conflict,” he said. “These are the kinds of people we are dealing with.”

Iran, with a population of 50 million, suffered roughly 1 million casualties in the war against Iraq, who lost 250,000-500,000 people.

Rubio also expressed concern about Iran potentially sharing nuclear technology with countries or groups that would “strike against our interests in the homeland.” One of the possible groups that immediately comes to mind is the militant radical Islamic group Hezbollah.

It was recently rumored that Iran will build a missile base in Venezuela to be used in the case of “an emergency.” Venezuela, like Iran, is a sworn enemy of the U.S.

Rubio has also advocated for military intervention in Syria, where more than 9,000 people have been killed since the uprisings began in March, 2011. Critics have accused Rubio of being a war hawk who wants to drag the U.S. into another war.

“Potential” => “Eventual” It’s going to happen. They WANT to martyr themselves and take out as many of us as they can.
I heard a sermon right after 9/11. It was discussed that with these other religions you can’t get married unless you have a dowry. Most men can’t get a job. So blowing yourself up is an alternative to getting married when you are promised “72 virgins.”
Get prepared for the 12th Imam and the stage is set. Ready…action!

This is what many years of aggression, occupation, and suppression of trade will get you.
These people didn’t always want the end of the U.S.
We overthrew their democracy, installed a dictator, who in turn was overthrown by the people. We continue to meddle in other countries affairs and this is what happens.
The USSR is another example of what happens when meddling in other countries affairs. You go broke!
We had the opprotunity to talk to Iran about stopping their nuclear program during the Clinton administration, but instead we refused to come to the table.
WE NEVER RECOGNIZED THE IRANIAN GOVERNMENT AFTER THEIR REVOLUTION. The revolution where they overthrew the government we worked to install. Kinda like Libya, Egypt and Iraq.
Remember, We installed Sadam only to have two wars trying to go after him and get him out.
There used to be not near as much violence in the middle east. Read up on the Turks.
This is another reason even allies are getting tired of us. Meddling.
Japan and S. Korea are getting tired of our military oversight. Most S. Koreans don’t even like U.S. citizens anymore and Japan wants us out. Meddling.
Why do you think more and more people are trading/allying with China? THEY DON’T MEDDLE!

Once again, Libertarians show that they are devotees of Alex Jones: if you don’t believe EXACTLY as they do then your a new-con/socialist/establishment-republican/etc.

What do Libertards not understand that it’s not IF Iran but WHEN! They WILL use it on either Israel or the US depending on which they feel is going to be the easier delievery system.

If the guy down the street keeps saying he’s going to kill your neighbor and then you but he has no means to do so then you let him run his mouth. But once he starts loading the gun while walking down the street towards your house you have to act.
Similarly, if he continually beats to a pulp his wife and kids in the front yard you have to take a stand and say hey, stop, then quit being a coward and kick his posterior when he dosnt stop.

Yes, no foreign entanglements, but also don’t allow another holocaust.

No, no. I’m sure most of you are right. So what if Hezbollah has nuclear capabilities? What’s wrong with Israel ceasing to exist? Saudi Arabia, Kuwait? Who needs that stinking piece of sand? While we’re at it, who NEEDS the United States? I mean, the world existed before we became a union, it‘ll exist after we’re dissolved. It won’t be a world we recognize, but hey, at least we won’t have gotten into another war, right? What’s the worst that could happen? Texas would be swallowed by Mexico, the northeast would be taken by Canada. The Bible belt? Well, they’re on their own. Maybe they could pray to Allah or something. Who needs them. Probably the best way to correct that wrong and to ensure that AmeriKa is no longer a super power or that the Iranians should never fear us is to give them about 10 thermo-nuclear weapons. Rubio borrowing a page from the Nazi playbook??:

    —————————————-
“Of course the people don’t want war. But after all, it’s the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it‘s always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it’s a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger.”

Suppose China invades us because we are neighbors, speak english and their “intel” told them the 19 Canadians trained in the USA.
They Invade us for over 10 years killing innocent civilians and setting up military bases, while starting a new communist government for us, Telling us and the global community they are “Freedom Fighters” and helping us by “spreading Communism”.
Every American that fought them for invading us, would be reported as “Extremists” and “Terrorists”.
Better put, The Military Industrial Complex claims that Patriotic Iraqis that fought us for invading their country were “Taliban” and “Al Queda”.

More cries from war hawks and war profiteers. If coming onto ten years of conflict wasn’t enough, let’s go attack a nation that can and will fight back. Afghanistan and Iraq are not a wars, they are prolonged military conflicts. Iran will give us war, state-sponsored war. Is this what we want? More conflict will spell out doom for our economy and any hope of recovery.

The likes of McCain, Rubio or any other GOP hardliner will say Iran is our enemy. Blindly, many Americans eat it up. Iran hasn’t attempted to overthrow our government, establish several military bases on our borders, send attack drones over our skies or send computer viruses to undermine our government. That’s all been us. We’re the aggressor and then we wonder why they are “sworn enemies” of the United States. We’ve been undermining their government for 60+ years. We need a policy of non-interference. They won’t attack, unless attacked. No one will. An unprovoked act of war will mean utter destruction for those who order it. This type of talk from our government is very dangerous.

      ===============================

      It’s “imminent” (not “eminent”)……

…….and even that is a bunch of BS! (LOL):

      ————————————–
“Imminent Iran nuclear threat? A timeline of warnings since 1979.

Breathless predictions that the Islamic Republic will soon be at the brink of nuclear capability, or – worse – acquire an actual nuclear bomb, are not new.

For more than quarter of a century Western officials have claimed repeatedly that Iran is close to joining the nuclear club. Such a result is always declared “unacceptable” and a possible reason for military action, with “all options on the table” to prevent upsetting the Mideast strategic balance dominated by the US and Israel.

And yet, those predictions have time and again come and gone. This chronicle of past predictions lends historical perspective to today’s rhetoric about Iran.”

Thats funny, BinCamelturd himself said the main reason for attacking the US was because we are a Christian nation that had to be converted by force to Islam.

Captbrit. Call me what you will . But i served under Ronald Reagan in the 1980‘s i wasn’t old enough to vote for him the first time but i voted for him the second time.George HW Bush next. When he lied and said read my lips no new taxes i voted for Ross Perot. Then Bob Dole George Bush 2 xs and John Mc Cain. When Obama came into office he has lied to us from the get go. I knew he would because he’s a politician. At first i was all for going into Iraq i wanted payback for 9/11 .Bush lost me when he bailed out the banks. and increased the department of education by 53%. Which Obama doubled in his first year.I went to tea party rallies because i know this country is going broke. So if you think we can keep on spending money on wars or building embassies in countries for a billion dollars . You’re a looney. I have also educated myself to the lies that this government has been hiding from us for years. Like the Persian Anglo Oil Company and why the muslims hate us in the first place.Get the hell out of all countries . Have floating military bases called aircraft carriers and stop giving any country taxpayers dollars. Let them kill each other off it’s not our business. If we don’t stop the spending we are doomed. It has to be across the board. We spend 53% of the worlds military budget and are now financing Chinas. Let other countries defend themselves and i will bet you that socialism crap will come to a screeching halt. But what do i know i’m just a troll . Ron Paul 2012 wri

There is a saying “ Prepare for the worst Hope for the best” I think thats what he is saying. I really think he is to inexperienced to be VP but he is well spoken. I have been in the military all the way from 1975 and have 5 tours over there what he says is right the radical arab wing can not be reasoned with they will lie and cheat and do any thing to get their way. And believe me 75% of the people who dont believe this are either misguided have no experience or are just plan blind to facts. the other 25% are people who stick there heads in the sand. America has always had one glaring fault. Its memory is very short IE: WW2, Korea, after Vietnam. Those that forget history are doomed to repeat it.

You would think that remembering Korea and Vietnam we would have learned our lesson to mind our own damn business and to quit sending our young men to die for other nations. As a veteran, from a family of veterans who’s brother, father, and both grandfathers served, as well as 2 brother in laws still serving I know and understand the real weight of war. Iran is not our business! As Smedley D. Butler, Major General, US Marine Corps said, “There are only two things we should fight for. One is the defense of our homes and the other is the Bill of Rights.” Please do not tell me that Iran is a threat to us. Should they attempt anything, we could turn their nation to glass and they know it. As for preventive war, General and U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower said, “When people speak to you about preventive war, you tell them to go and fight it! After my experience, I have come to hate war.” This war madness needs to stop! Wake the hell up!

Another one that just loves to throw the Nuclear option. Read your History I was not saying about Vietnam or Korea I was saying how we let ourselves fall into unpreparedness after conflicts like always. Had Japan not attacked us Germany would have been at our shores before we got into the war. I hate War, seen to much and suffered for it. but I would gladly fight again to keep ANYONE from having to use Nukes. I served in Europe during the cold war and that was the scariest time I ever served. Think about that before saying we can turn them to glass.

Hitler had ZERO intention of “invading the US”. I mean really these tired old post WW2 canards about Hitler are really just childish now.

Hitler’s battle was against Bolshevism. Yes many many Jews were leaders under Stalin’s Bolshevik tyranny. So what?

Bolshevism was brought over here in the 1950‘s and 60’s by Jewish emigrees. That is what you have running your country now.

Zionism is the other side of the same kosher coin.

Churchill wrote an essay Bolshevism and Zionism the Battle for the Jewish Soul way back in the late 1920′s.

Old Glen ought to man up and post it sometime

I think we now know who James Madison was talking about during the Constitutional Convention of 1787:

    ——————————————————————
“In time of actual war, great discretionary powers are constantly given to the Executive Magistrate. Constant apprehension of War, has the same tendency to render the head too large for the body. A standing military force, with an overgrown Executive will not long be safe companions to liberty. The means of defence agst. foreign danger, have been always the instruments of tyranny at home. Among the Romans it was a standing maxim to excite a war, whenever a revolt was apprehended. Throughout all Europe, the armies kept up under the pretext of defending, have enslaved the people.”
-James Madison, Constitutional Convention, June 29, 1787

This is how Obama is going to win the election again. CHEAT. All kinds of Illinion plates are at the polls too. THey are desperate and desperate people do nasty things.

The “MYODB” policy is great! Problem is it dosnt work when you have a mad man at the wheel that wishes to see the world burn. It’s one thing to say, oh well, he’s driving a little faster than the speed limit and not wearing a seat belt, but it’s another to know the driver of a semi is off his meds and believes he can time travel if he gets the 18wheeler up to 88 MPH before he hits the school full of kids.
