Rumors of Rush Limbaugh’s Demise Have Been Greatly Exaggerated

In what Rush himself called a “random act of journalism” on his radio show today, even the Washington Post has written a story admitting that Limbaugh’s show has apparently survived the orchestrated “advertiser boycott” on the part of Media Matters for America. The story, entitled “Limbaugh Sees Heat Over Comments Turn Down to a Simmer,” includes some very discouraging passages for liberal opponents of the controversial talk show host. Highlights follow:
Exactly one month after the conservative radio host sparked outrage by calling Georgetown law-school student Sandra Fluke “a slut” and “a prostitute” in a three-day diatribe, stations are standing by him, advertisers are trickling back to his program and the news media have moved on.[...]
Limbaugh’s advertising losses may have been less than media accounts suggested. While more than 100 advertisers told Premiere that they didn’t want to be associated with “controversial” radio programs of any kind in the wake of the flap, some of these companies weren’t regular Limbaugh sponsors in the first place.[...]
Limbaugh’s recovering fortunes may be best exemplified by what hasn’t happened. At the peak of the controversy in early March, two small stations — in western Massachusetts and Hilo, Hawaii — said that they would drop his program. Since then, no other station has said it will take him off the air, dashing the hopes of MoveOn.org, a liberal group whose ongoing petition drive seeks Limbaugh’s removal from 180 stations.
Limbaugh was stunned by the story, taking to his radio station to promote it and personally praise the Post for getting the story right:
I do not know how this happened and I don’t know what caused it, but there is an absolutely accurate — correct factually — and fair story on the last month of this program in the Washington Post. It was put up last night. I don‘t know if it’s in the printed version or if it’s just a website piece, but I am…
I read it. I had to read it two or three times. I cannot believe it! This program, me, is never accorded this kind of treatment in the mainstream media. The truth about how few advertisers have been lost. The truth about how few stations left. The truth about how little damage was done to this program. It was stunning. It’s in the Washington Post. I just told Koko to put a link to it up at RushLimbaugh.com in the red section, the red bar at RushLimbaugh.com when you go there. He’ll have it up there soon. I don’t even think Koko knew about it. When I sent him just a note here, “I want you to put that link up. I’m gonna be talking about,” he wrote back, “Okay.” I’m sure he was thinking, “What the hell is he talking about?” We might tweet that out, too, as well.
Media Matters has tried to spin the attack as less than a total loss, claiming that Limbaugh may be on a tighter leash following the boycott. Given Limbaugh’s ability to rebound from previous controversies, however, this may be overly optimistic.

Ole uncle JZS was peddling an inaccurate list with exaggerated numbers of suspended advertisers. His list claimed Domino’s Pizza dropped Rush. Domino’s released this statement.
“Domino’s Pizza spent Friday pointing out that it does not advertise on the show, despite incorrectly appearing on a list”
http://www.freep.com/article/20120303/NEWS07/203030435/Limbaugh-s-verbal-attack-on-law-student-sparks-backlash
That is a pretty classy tactic. Fabricating companies out of thin air that “dropped” Rush to further your agenda. Who cares if it’s intellectually dishonest? The ends justify the means.

You state “too bad. \ rush gives conservatives a bad name (and a head full of nonsense).rush gives conservatives a bad name (and a head full of nonsense).”
If you don’t like him, don’t listen. If people didn’t like what he had to say, his show would tank – as opposed to being attacked by an orchestrated attempt at sponsor intimidation by Media Matters. He obviously has an audience that does not think he gives conservatives a bad name and who do not think themselves filled with nonsense.

I’ve heard many call in over the years saying they were hardened liberals and by some fluke (no, not the “woman” we are discussing) – came to listen to his show, found out that their lib friends were clueless and/or lying about him, got hooked and actually left. So it does happen – and if ever we need the most we can “recruit” the better asap.
Report Post »His last two shows have been spectacular about explaining how the libs think – well, don’t think actaully and how they really have everyone duped about their “superior” intelligence – this latest SC deal with Obamacare showed just how clueless & really not that smart at all. They aren’t really “educated” at college/schools – they’re just mainly indoctrinated with their ridiculous unrealistic utopian dreams which cannot “work”. He pointed out how much these people really don‘t know anything much at all about the constitution or the real world and don’t want to. And shame on all of us who let it happen.

The spinning I was referring to was your trying to make lemonade out of the big lemon this whole episode turned out to be for you guys.
My reference to JZS, and him picking his jaw up off the floor was in regards to the fact that his reading of this story had to be a monumental letdown for him. Seeing as he has been posting all over the Blaze recently about how the free market, and capitalism was going to destroy the man.

Posted on March 29, 2012 at 11:29pmThe reason I am referencing the 2006 election rather than 2010 is because the control of the Senate actually switched to the Democrats. The House was pretty much assumed to be lost for Republicans, however in order for the Democrats to win the Senate they had to win seats in Missouri, Montana, and Virginia which were all red states and long shots to elect Democratic senators.
Thanks to Mr. Limbaugh and his attacks on Michael J. Fox and Jim Webb Democrats actually did the unthinkable and took control of the Senate.
In 2010, despite the Tea Party wave the Senate did not change hands, partly due to the 2006 and 2008 Democratic gains and the GOP will be hard pressed to take control in 2012.
So again a big thanks to Mr. Limbaugh – Dittos and keep doing what you’re doing!
