Run! Now Indiana House Dems Flee State to Block Anti-Union Legislation

If you’re a politician and you want to block legislation that would crack down on union power in your state, apparently there’s a new way to do just that, and it’s gaining popularity. In a word: Run!
That’s what Democratic senators in Wisconsin did last week when they fled to Illinois, and now it’s what Democratic House members in Indiana did today. The Indianapolis Star reports:
House Democrats are leaving the state rather than vote on anti-union legislation, The Indianapolis Star has learned.
A source said Democrats are headed to Illinois, though it was possible some also might go to Kentucky. They need to go to a state with a Democratic governor to avoid being taken into police custody and returned to Indiana.
The House was came into session this morning, with only two of the 40 Democrats present. Those two were needed to make a motion, and a seconding motion, for any procedural steps Democrats would want to take to ensure Republicans don’t do anything official without quorum.
With only 58 legislators present, there was no quorum present to do business. The House needs 67 of its members to be present.
Rep. Terri Austin, D-Anderson, told House Speaker Brian Bosma, R-Indianapolis, that Democrats “continue to be in caucus” to discuss potential amendments to several bills.
Bosma said he was “flummoxed,” adjoured until noon, and labor union members watching in the gallery and hallway outside cheered the work stoppage.
According to the Star, Democrats are upset about a bill that “would bar unions and companies from negotiating a contract that requires non-union members to kick-in fees for representation.”

Unions haven’t been fair for over 40 years and average person is finally starting to get it.

Posted on February 22, 2011 at 5:25pmThe SEC alleged that Paulson & Co, a major hedge fund run by billionaire John Paulson, worked with Goldman in creating a collateralized debt obligation, and stood to benefit as its value fell, costing investors more than US$1-billion. That is roughly the amount that Paulson is estimated to have made by betting against the CDO.
Fabrice Tourre, a Goldman vice president who the SEC said was principally responsible for creating the product, was also charged with fraud. Paulson was not charged.

These legislators are for all intents and purposes rendering our constitutional republic null and void. We need to confront these people and stop them in their tracks before they can flee.
This is all a tactic to allow the astroturf out-of-state union thugs bussed in to mess things up long enough to cause chaos. They don’t care about our republic, and they don’t care about following any rules, nor even basic truth nor honesty.
They have indicated their intent through their cowardly fleeing. It’s our move folks. What will you do?

You seem fine with the notion of representatives of either party being amoral and disrupting the legal, constitutional functioning of a state. I think if they deliberately leave to stop a vote like this then they FORFEIT their vote its recorded as ‘not voting’ (just like many of the votes BHO cast, didnt cast when he was a senator) and it should go as planned at this point. The people need to have a way for recall elections to replace people who do this, we cannot go the way of these nations now in collapse.
Those of you that voted for these cowards is this how you want to be represented? Is this a reflection of who you are? No one is criticizing Americans for being Dem/Rep thats your choice but those who represent you must reflect who you are if not they must be removed. I will also contend that these people doing this, more to come from other states, are “household” names within the states. That said nothing will change in the US until every household/ career name/ politician is removed from power, from the local and state all the way to the White House!

Posted on February 22, 2011 at 2:11pmThis is lawlessness, pure and simple. It is disrupting and disrespecting our principles of government. Why is it that only Dems pull this kind of BS? Let’s not forget changing the rules in order to pass health care. Tyrants, nothing less. I don’t suggest republicans do the same, because it will just grease the slope to anarchy.
There has to be some law broken by these actions. The governor and AG need to find it, and prosecute to the fullest extent of the law. At the very least, the governors need to cancel their state issued credit cards. Let them pay for their own vacation. The republicans need to introduce legislation that will make a “no show = no vote” without disrupting the legislative process.

One suggestion for Wis. Since it only requires a majority (not a quorum) to pass all but funding bills, they should change the rules regarding eligibility. That is to say, change quorum’s definition to those only within state boundaries. For every AWOL coward the number is reduced. They (Cowards) would then face their constituents and explain their absence. I don’t know about Indiana – but the same might apply.

Really Tower? You are pulling the Hitler card?! So, are we to do nothing and let the cost of government continue to skyrocket? If we do then we will have another Viemar Republic!! If you recall, German debt led to hyper-inflation. Hyper-inflation is what the Viemar Republic is best remembered for causing. The weight of that debt led the leaders of Germany to foolishly print money to help pay that debt (hmmmm….sound familiar?) and The Viemar Republic is one of the major factors that led to Hitler being able to come to power in the first place.

Posted on February 22, 2011 at 5:16pmDerivatives and synthetic securities have been used to create imaginary value out of thin air,” George Soros, chairman of $27 billion hedge-fund firm Soros Fund Management, wrote in a column posted on his Web site last week.
“More triple-A CDOs were created than there were underlying triple-A assets. This was done on a large scale in spite of the fact that all of the parties involved were sophisticated investors,” he added. “The process went on for years, and culminated in a crash that caused wealth destruction amounting to trillions of dollars. It cannot be allowed to continue.”
“Synthetic CDOs should be abolished,” Janet Tavakoli, a structured-finance specialist who wrote a book about CDOs in 2003, said in a recent interview. “They’re too complex and provide no real benefit. They only existed to game the system or hide losses.”
The SEC alleged that Goldman Sachs /quotes/comstock/13*!gs/quotes/nls/gs (GS 162.94, -5.10, -3.03%) didn’t tell investors in a synthetic CDO called Abacus 2007-AC1 that hedge-fund firm Paulson & Co. helped structure the deal, and also was betting against it. Goldman and Paulson have denied wrongdoing. Read about the charges.

Posted on February 22, 2011 at 6:56pmpaja I am pulling something worse than the Hitler card I am pulling the Hankie card
High-flying business executives almost always endure financial sacrifice when they make a detour into public service. Paulson is no different: The Goldman Sachs boss will see his annual paycheck shrink from last year’s $38 million to a paltry $183,500 once he takes over the job of Treasury secretary.
But don’t shed too many tears for Paulson. He has amassed quite a fortune–a roughly $700 million equity stake in Wall Street’s premier investment banking house. And soon, he will have the chance to diversify a good chunk of those holdings without paying a dime to the Internal Revenue Service.
By accepting the Treasury post, Paulson is poised to take advantage of a tax loophole that allows government officials to defer capital gains taxes on assets they have to sell to avoid a conflict of interest, as long as the proceeds are reinvested in government securities or a broad array of mutual funds approved by the government within 60 days.

Posted on February 22, 2011 at 8:37pmmaybe they will put them in FEMA camps
ome of these theories suggest that the government is prepared to turn FEMA camps into “concentration camps” holding “civilians” deemed a potential threat to the US government.
Such claims prompted Press TV to take a closer look at FEMA and its activities:
FEMA
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is an agency of the United States Department of Homeland Security, initially created by a Presidential Order on 1 April 1979. Fas.org
FEMA had one original concept when it was created, to assure the survivability of the United States government in the event of a nuclear attack on the nation.
It was also provided with the task of being a federal coordinating body during times of domestic disasters, such as earthquakes, floods and hurricanes.
Some people have referred to it as the “secret government” of the United States. It is not an elected body, it does not involve itself in public disclosures, and it even has a quasi-secret budget in the billions of dollars.
The National Governor’s Association asked President Carter to streamline the nation’s disaster response mechanism. Endrtimes.blogspo.com

Posted on February 22, 2011 at 9:47pmAmazing Democrats. They work so hard, spend so much money to be elected then turn their tails and run when the going gets tough. I suppose each one, has, by standard measure, quit their elected job(s) without cause by leaving the state and not participating in crucial government budgeting.
My hope is that each one is returned to their state to face the stiff consequences of quitting their jobs. This action by the Democrats fleeing their state when they are needed most adds additional costs to an already cash strapped state. Americans are supposed to work together to achieve the “Best” solution for all. We have been the most incredible Republic for two centuries only to watch it all be undermined by a few.
We have forgotten our history already, how others gave all to start this great nation. Now we watch nambly pambly officials walk away when the going gets tough. I would never want to be in a fox hole with them!
