Running Interference: Mass. Gov. Refuses to Let Warren Answer Cherokee Heritage Question After Reporter Presses

Last week we featured “scattered showers of journalism,” when a reporter from the local Fox affiliate in Boston pressed Elizabeth Warren on her claims of Cherokee Indian heritage (she stonewalled the journalist in response). Now that same reporter is back, but this time she ran into a different roadblock: Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick.

(Related: Warren Says ‘I Was The First Nursing Mother to Take a Bar Exam in The State of New Jersey’)

Patrick was holding a joint news conference where he announced that he was going to support Warren in her senatorial campaign. That’s when WFXT-TV’s Sharman Sacchetti asked Warren, once again, about her heritage claims and the reaction from Massachusetts residents and ethnic groups. But before Warren could utter a complete response, Patrick stepped in.

“On behalf of the people of the Commonwealth, we don’t care about that subject,” Patrick said. That was after he lectured on how Sacchetti should be allowed to ask the question, but then basically went on to show how you don’t have to answer it.

But not pleased, Sacchetti continued to press Warren, who then degenerated into talking points about families getting “hammered” and accused Sacchetti of not liking Warren’s answer after Sacchetti accused her of refusing to respond.

Watch the exchange below:

Even after watching the video, some might wonder: Why keep pressing Warren on an issue that has already been well-covered? Enter the Boston Globe. The Globe hasn’t given up on the controversy either, and the more it presses, the more details there are that emerge. For example, after pressing, the Globe now got Warren to admit that she did, in fact, tell her university employers she was Native American after she was hired:

Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren acknowledged for the first time late Wednesday night that she told Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania that she was Native American, but she continued to insist that race played no role in her recruitment.

“At some point after I was hired by them, I . . . provided that information to the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard,’’ she said in a statement issued by her campaign. “My Native American heritage is part of who I am, I’m proud of it and I have been open about it.’’

Warren’s statement is her first acknowledgment that she identified herself as Native American to the Ivy League schools. While she has said she identified herself as a minority in a legal directory, she has carefully avoided any suggestion during the last month that she took further actions to promote her purported heritage.

It’s pouring journalism in some areas of Boston. We’ll see what the extended forecast brings.

This story has been updated with additional information.

That’s the biggest problem in politics today. Just look at the Richard Blumenthal situaion. He lies about being in Vietnam, gets caught, and the people elect him anyway. Me um think this chick is worse than Blumenthal. Let’s hope the voters have more sense this time around. We’ll see.

Wishful thinking!!! Remember, you are dealing with the voters in Massachuetts. These are the same voters who elected Ted Kennedy and Barney Frank over and over again. Common sense and critical thinking exercises among the voters in that state are non-existant. They blindly follow the far left liberal mantra like blind sheep. They could care less what they elect, as long as it’s liberal.

That’s why Massachuetts name has become TAXACHUETTS. They elect liberal drones and then wonder why the state is going broke and many companies and wealthy individuals are leaving the state in droves.

DUHHHHH! Wake up Mass. voters! Start thinking about the long term future of the state, or risk becoming another California or even GREECE.

Coupe Deval does NOT speak for the people of the Commonwealth! Elizabeth Warren is a total fraud in every respect. She has ZERO Cherokee ancestory and ZERO % of their DNA which is why she refuse to submit to a DNA screening which would end the debate on the subject forthwith. Now she is rattling her labia by saying she was the first woman to ever nurse a child while attending law school, and what a victim she was having to rid a train into “Wall Street” with nothing but ‘evil white men’ on board…. Ohhhh the horror, ohhhh the pain and suffering this poor woman has been through! Don’t you haters know SHE DESERVES TO WIN BECAUSE SHE IS A VICTIM. Her status as an indian female automaticaly garantees her victory in the liberal mind, especially in M(ass)achusetts.

Besides being a really low, sexist ad hominem attack, what is your point? You really hate her, but why? You are repeating nonsense talking points and throwing up the most vulgar of cheap images but what has she done that is so terrible? She has spent the last couple of decades fighting banks and corporations and their toadies in government to help working people like you to get a fairer shake, to be able to keep more of your money, the money you earned and to get access to services you’ve paid for. What is so terrible about that? Instead you respond to her efforts by attacking her over things that don’t matter. And guess what, even if she did take that blood test, there would still be people screaming that it was faked or it proved nothing. The President released his birth certificate in 2008. Conservatives screamed that it wasn’t enough, they wanted to see the long form. He released the long form and Conservatives screamed that it was a forgery. It’s been vouched for by numerous state officials, including the Republican Governor at the time, but that doesn’t stop the screaming. In the meantime, Fox puts out all sorts of Republican talking points about abortion and voter fraud and cookbooks and plagarized articles and you folks all jump onto the bandwagon and have a good scream. But questions about unfunded tax cuts for the rich or real changes in government are ignored in all the shouting.

Want to respond to Desertrose1960, when the distractions that persons keep themselves busy with keep you from thinking about the character of a person there is a great deal of underlying darkness. It seems that the progressive mind set says that we are going to help the little guy because they are victimized by the big bad bankers and “rich” people…, if you hadn’t noticed that all these same progressive politicians are rich people that love to use your money and not their own for the “causes” they hold dear. If you use your eyes to see that your best interest and the downtrodden are not in the best interest of the politicians, especially politicians that have little or no character. The only way a society like ours succeeds is with leaders with integrity that act as servants and not despots, most of the progressive politicians do not have your best interest at heart, only their portfolio and legacy. Look around, you will find that they put their name on streets buildings and statues to claim greatness for their causes. When we allow politicians, ie leaders of our communities to lie and deceive, and say that does not matter we are allowing the citizens to lie and deceit all of us at any time, it does matter that there is no integrity at the top, as modeled by the current administration.

      @DESERTROSE60:

The only thing Obama wants is to destroy the economy of the United States and have us become a failure like Greece, Spain, Portugal, Italy and the rest of the far left socialist “Utopias” which comprise Europe.

With 51% of all Americans paying no income taxes at all, the idea that Obama’s plans will allow workers to an you put it, “Allow Americans to keep more of their money” is not only unrealistic but borders on insanity. You cannot fund the kind of programs without higher taxes unless you keep increasing the debt, which by the way, Obama has managed to do more than any president in history.

Margret Thatcher said: ” The greatest problem with Socialism is that sooner or later, you run out of other people’s money.”

You will probably never be convinced of those facts. You sound like a “Born again” liberal who thinks money grows on trees and that the government fairy will wave his magic wand and all the nation’s money problems will go away. I feel sorry for you.

To DesertRose – Your rambling blind support of Warren and Obama is mind boggling. You claim Warren‘s lies don’t matter? They show what her character is! They most definitely matter. She lied about being a minority to get ahead! This doesn’t bother you? She very well could have taken a spot at these universities from a REAL minority. Elizabeth Warren is a proven liar and plagiarist whose research has been called into question for its lack of actual RESEARCH!

As for Obama’s birth certificate, who were the first “birthers”? Do you know? The Clintons (they’re not Republicans, are they?). I think the issue with Obama’s birth certificate goes beyond just the birth certificate. It is just a small piece of a puzzle that is missing all the other pieces. People just want to know about his past, starting from the beginning. What is wrong with knowing where your president was born? Or where he went to school and what his grades were? You can find this information about all other elected officials; why not Obama?

@Avengerk I‘m not happy about President Obama’s continuation of so many of Bush’s policies. He didn’t spend more than any other President, the biggest increase in the deficit was that he placed several trillion dollars worth of Bush under the table spending into the budget. President Bush waged his wars in Iraq and Afghanistan without budgeting for them or including them in budget projections. He just ran up deficits and Cheney quipped that “Reagan proved deficits don’t matter.” What you’ve overlooked in all your snide remarks are that Obama was blocked by Republlican obstructionism at every turn. When he announced public trials for the guys at Gitmo, the Rightwing noise machine went into screeching overdrive about how dangerous this was. They had to stop. The same with the extension of the tax cuts, Republicans refused to go along until he caved. And I was not happy about that.

On a personal note, I claim to work within the Beltway, not in D.C. proper. My work does not depend on a President. My service date goes back to the Bush Administration. I am not now a member of the union, I do not work for the Obama campaign. And I was a teacher on a U.S. military base in Asia as well as teaching in stateside schools, including a Catholic school. I left teaching a number of years ago. I am covered by the Hatch Act of 1939. No one pays me to spout talking points. Once again we see the classical attempt to avoid and deflect inquirories into the progressives world; when one is found out to be the liar and deceiver they are at heart and deed, then they try to intimidate, denigrate and discredit the questioners of the truth; and when that finally fails, dodge, distort and deflect.

This is nothing more than a dance for them; they want to keep deflecting the light of the truth away from their dark deeds and lies until something larger and flashier comes by to capture the attention of the masses.

Attacking someone‘s character only becomes a good strategy when you can’t get them on anything else. Professor Warren spent decades working on consummer finance and consummer protection, she is well respected and her work isn’t being challenged. Instead, you are focusing on this small tiny thing and trying to say it overrides everything else. Her belief that her heritage is partly Native American is not new and is shared by other members of her family. That cookbook is nearly 30 years old, her cousin, one of the editors joined a Native American organization and participated in creating the cookbook nearly 30 years ago. She was conspiring to make this false claim so it would win her points in a Massachusetts election 30 years ago when she didn’t even live in Massachusetts?

First it was great, great, great granddaddy that was Cherokee because of “family lore” and his having “high cheekbones that the indians do”. It turns out he was not only white, he actually participarted in herding the tribes off their lands. Then when Fauxcahontas couldn’t keep that story up..it became great, great, great grandma. Well..the marriage certificate doesnt’ cite her as cherokee either.
When this first broke, Fauxcahontas said she only became aware of Harvard saying she was Cherokee from a newspaper article. Today…Fauxcahontas is admitting that she told Harvard she was Cherokee. A minor oversight rigth ROSIE?
