Rupert Murdoch Reportedly Resigns From a String of Newspaper Boards

Rupert Murdoch Steps Down From NI Group Board, Companies Behind The Sun, The Times, and the Sunday Times

Media mogul Rupert Murdoch has resigned as a director of a string of companies behind The Sun, The Times and The Sunday Times, according to The Telegraph.

The Telegraph continues:

Companies House filings show that Mr Murdoch stepped down from the boards of the NI Group, Times Newspaper Holdings and News Corp Investments in the UK last week. He also quit a number of News Corp’s US boards, the details of which have yet to be disclosed by the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

News Corporation played down the significance of the resignations as “nothing more than a corporate housecleaning exercise prior to the company split”.

The media giant took a similar line when James Murdoch resigned a string of directorships at News International last November, pouring cold water on suggestions that he was walking away from the UK newspaper arm. He quit as chairman three months later.

Murdoch has reportedly assured that he remains committed to the U.K. newspaper business, but Claire Enders at Enders Analysis claimed the resignations are part of the “slow fade of Rupert and James from the UK” that started last year and will be “complete and permanent.”

“The grip of the Murdochs, finger by finger, has been loosened,” she said, continuing: “James and Rupert have decided that they are not welcome in the UK, and they’re right. there is an enforced emotional withdrawal from these assets because they are no longer useful [in terms of influence].”

The Telegraph discusses the wider ramifications for both sides of the Atlantic:

News Corporation has already said it will split into two separately listed companies, distancing its embattled newspaper and book publishing interests from its rapidly growing film and television operations, which account for nearly 90pc of News Corp’s $4.2bn (£2.7bn) annual revenues.

…[Murdoch] vowed at the time of the announcement to remain a “very active chairman” of the publishing business. But his surprise resignation of directorships on both sides of the Atlantic has raised expectations that he is gearing up to sever all ties with the company.

Splitting News Corp would also put some much-needed distance between its film and television assets and the newspaper business, whose reputation is threatening the whole News Corp empire.

Reports are still unclear as to what the next step will be for the 81-year-old media mogul.

    This man knows that Soros IS TAKING CONTROL OF ALL NEWS MEDIA – ALL PEOPLE HAVE DONE IS DOWN FOX NEWS. In order to find out what our govern is up it is almost necessary to go across seas to the International News Media to find out the truth! We in America have got to start saying even LOUDER THAN BEFORE – NO MORE STOP BUYING THE NEWSPAPERS – STOP LISTENING TO ABC, CBS, CNBC, MSN, ETC – THAT IS THE ONLY WAY – HIT THEM IN THEIR POCKETBOOKS – Just like flying and the letting the TSA RAPE YOU – DON’T FLY!     This is a sad sign for the press everywhere. Despite recent problems Mr. Murdoch has faced he has given us Fox news, the only main stream news outlet with integrity. He is a news publisher who is not a secular progressive tainted by the despicable filth of socialism. Stay strong Mr. Murdoch most good people are with you.

    Of course it doesn‘t help that he’s a large donor to the Republican party and controls Fox news. The left has been trying to shut down Fox news for years. Wouldn’t do them any good because we get our news off the internet until Obama pushes the off button which has been given to him. That will never happen will it?       I looked it up a while back and spent a lot of time checking bios etc. It’s a frustrating search, but in the end, it’s just heads of large corporations and they all seem to have some type of globalist ties.

      Where do you learn this crap? Wartime build up of arms is what propelled us out of the depression. Socialists achieved their wealth through slave labor, raiding other countries, and divvying up what was left behind from the capitalist country they had overthrown.

      Let me talk about pie for a second

      Socialism is an allocator of resources. They take their pie, and divvy it up so many ways. Some payback their allies who helped them with their coup. Others are used to win favors with certain groups.

      My point is that socialism cannot create, it can only “redistribute” which really means destroy.

      On the other hoove, capitalism is a pie creating machine. It doesn’t have anything to do with bribery and inequality like socialism. Treating people differently based on their political disposition = inequality.

      Oh, and the only people that benefit from socialism are the very people who implement it, the central planners themselves.

    This is a war between Murdoch and Soros for the minds of the worlds peoples. Murdoch believes in freedom and Soros believes on suppression of freedom.

    I would not be surprised that Murdoch might have some health issues that are getting him to reorganize before it is too late.

    I’d prefer if Murdoch kept his powder dry and bought out the SEVEN PERCENT of News Corporation owned by Saudi Prince Bin Talal. The good Prince brags that he can get Murdoch to change a scrolling headline about “Muslim Extremists” simply by picking up his cell phone and dialing Murdoch.
    Realize that Murdoch ONLY owns 12%.

    If you wonder why Fox news isn’t butt-hole deep in stories about the Muslim Brotherhood dining at the White House, that 7% is your answer.

      Agreed! Rupert Murdock maybe be great business man but he is a coward. Like politicians people with amount of power are easily corrupted by special interest groups.

      I hope he can one day save his reputation but correcting his corporations. Fox have become a progressive cesspool. We can’t get honest truth seekers and reporting on the all issues.

      Think what alerted me were the DAILY articles in the Lefty New York Times about the Murdoch UK case which ran for MONTHS . And the daily comments from NYT readers calling for ” also close down Fox News in America .” Their agenda is quite clear. Rather as transparent as the Left’s goal of ending gun ownership. in America. They are very dedicated . More of that “ change ” thing Obama Lefties desire.
