Rush: AZ Memorial T-Shirt Slogan Came From DNC’s Organizing for America

The presence of tee-shirts branded with the tragedy of last weekend’s Arizona shootings raised the eyebrows of many onlookers who worried the shooting was being subjected to politicization. A group of Arizona students has taken credit for the tee-shirt design and motto, but many are suggesting the “Together We Thrive” motto actually came from Organizing for America, the campaign arm of the Democratic National Committee.
During his Friday radio program, conservative host Rush Limbaugh noted the coincidence (h/t DailyRushbo):
Indeed, on the Obama for America 2008 campaign site, the slogan was used by one Obama supporter to rail against American capitalism:
For too long Americans have been set one against the other, it is a side effect of a free market society. How can profits be maximized, how can I get the work done for the lowest possible costs. This continually sets one group against the other, especially in the blue collar sectors of America. It has become a part of the American Business model, whether it was indentured servants, slaves picking cotton, sharecroppers, the industrious people that built the railroads or todays migrant workers. As long as we remain divided, fighting for the scraps that America has to offer it will be one group against the other.
What I see in Obama is a chance for a revolution. A chance for every group to participate and be heard; A chance to live the American dream that has been denied to so many. Together we can and will change the world and return America to the shining beacon of Hope and Prosperity that we were and that we can be again. Only when we work together do we accomplish feats that rival any ever accomplished in the history of mankind. Diversity is our strength, that is what this campaign brings us a promise of. For many this is a scary prospect and thought, getting to know someone different from myself. We all want the same basic things for example a safe place to live, health and a quality education for our kids.
In a previous career, I was the global leader of Diversity for a global fortune 500 corporation, I have studied the affects of diverse groups working together and the results can not be denied. Together we Thrive!!!!!!!!!!!
The My.BarackObama blog site does include this note:
Content on blogs in My.BarackObama represents the opinions of community members and in no way should be interpreted as endorsed or approved by the campaign.
So, is a blog post from an individual blogger/Obama supporter enough to link the Tucson shooting tragedy to liberal politics?

Have they used up all the good slogans or are the ones used over & over just not resonate anymore. I knew this was a campaign speech type of trip. I think the speaker had an idea this is what it was too. That might be why he chose to stay & preside over the vigil in the house. Standing next to BO while he is stumping when you despise his politics would look like he’s endorsing them.

Posted on January 14, 2011 at 4:16pmAMEN! The truth has no agenda, I have been saying and now Glenn has taken up that mantra again! Posted on January 14, 2011 at 4:05pmanybody who believed this was thought of by AU was duped…to put it politely. If in fact it had been the college the shirts would have been red and not blue. And anyone else who thought this was not about politics, go back and listen again to the “speech” Obama gave and right around the time he starts to praise the 30 year old social worker who helped the senior citizens get the health care they were entitled to and the veterans get the benefits and medals they were entitled to, he says..”the system works…” Nope not political at all.
Report Post »Let me just add this, if the GOP thinks the progressives want to show bipartisanship by “sitting” intermingled with them they are fools! The only reason they want to do that is because they want it to appear as if there is not a GOP majority in the house when the “cheering and clapping commences”. Don‘t be fools and don’t throw pearls before swines. They are not interested in bipartisan movement, they are intested in 2012 and they will say and do anything they have to give the appearnce that they want decisions to be made together…I ask the question, is that after the GOP comes up from the back of the bus and the progressives have cleaned up after the Bush debacle? Sorry I got carried away.

Posted on January 14, 2011 at 4:59pmThe sarcasm seems very forced.
In order to have genuine sarcasm there needs to be a parallel scenario.
For instance, a link between violent campaign rhetoric or imagery on the left preferably using ballistic metaphors on their conservative or republican opponents.
In any case everyone appears to be focusing on the slogan on the tshirt coming from the OFA blog.
White House was certainly behind this, university students wouldn’t have computers with internet access and time on their hands to surf the net. (Now that’s sarcasm)

I listened to it here with a fair number of residents of my apartment complex; the local progressives and socialists had taken over the TV in our community room to see the ‘great hero’ and we used a radio. One grandmother brought her kids, and the senior (high schooler) grand daughter of hers asked who the ‘clueless ranter on the radio was?’ when Obama came on.
Not all of the students fail to get it; just the majority of them, then again the colleges are the centers for indoctrination and control set up by the progressives, so what can we honestly expect.
We have to pray for them to see the truth and the light; and for the ones who already do, to continue on with the rest of us.

I understand students, for the most part, are self-absorbed until they have a good dose of the “real world”, but the fact that no adult pointed out how tasteless that was is amazing. The fact that Obama didn’t curtail the applause after the first out burst is tasteless too. Hard to teach young people right and wrong when the adults are as clueless.

Posted on January 14, 2011 at 6:36pm“For too long Americans have been set one against the other, it is a side affect of a free market society.”
No, a free market society values each individual, and their right to property – it doesn‘t matter if you’re poor or rich.
“How can profits be maximized, how can I get the work done for the lowest possible costs.”
This is how all businesses work. It’s even how Obamacare would work, if you could convince everyone to participate (it’s unConstitutional), since you would still need to maximize the availability of medical services for the society as a whole – which is of course where “death panels” would come in.
“This continually sets one group against the other, especially in the blue collar sectors of America.”
Everyone has a right to property in America, both rich and poor, such that anyone can own the means of production. And since everyone has a right to property, even the rich should be able to do whatever they want with it, or offer any wage to workers – and workers can choose to accept that wage from the one employer, or go to another employer.
We don‘t own other people’s wealth – it’s not ours. And nobody owes us a job; But we should all be spared the regulations which stifle our own entrepreneurialship, so that we can at least work for our own selves.
“It has become a part of the American Business model, whether it was indentured servants, slaves picking cotton, sharecroppers, the industrious people that built the railroads or todays migrant workers.”
A free market society competes to offer goods at prices others will pay, because you can only sell what people will buy, and so indentured servitude is unnecessary in a free society, in that it’s not stifling the economy with regulations, because we could just choose a different employer.
“As long as we remain divided, fighting for the scraps that America has to offer it will be one group against the other.”
The one’s who are trying to divide us are those who classify people into groups – whether it be tax brackets, culture, or color. That would be the Progressives.

If it was my 9 year old daughter, I would have walked up to Obama and scream in his face, turn and leave. These Blood Libel Democrats turned a memorial of 6 dead people into a pep rally. I hope when the Presidents days are ending, people cheer and applaude at his memorial.
I wish there was a movement in my State to remove our Star from the US Flag. This was like Obama throwing us the Bird.

I hope the next war goes better.

Posted on January 14, 2011 at 8:39pmLSX, Progressives have no need for shame…they are so superior to Conservatives, at least in their twisted view on things.
They are the rational ones, they utter no spiteful words…that they recognize. They just reason (somehow) that if they lead the stupid masses along they will do what they want.
Boy, are they going to be surprised. For we outnumber them, and we are strong.

Posted on January 14, 2011 at 10:15pm“Together we thrive” motto is offensive to someone? The way I read that is that if we, as Americans, work together, we all benefit. And maybe the converse would be that if we Americans are not working together, we thrive less. Is that false?
The Giffords‘s family applauded President Obama’s speech, as did almost everyone from the left, right and center. And yet here on the website you ask “did Obama lie?” when he said Gabby opened her eyes for the first time in his speech, parsing the words “opened her eyes” when her doctors said that was the first time she opened her eyes (eye really) voluntarily rather than as a reflexive movement.
Think about yourself and ask what is it that prevents you, what makes your view so skewed, that you will extend any Herculean mental effort required to deny that President Obama has done or said a single positive thing. Politics aside, that’s a form of mental illness, the inability to see gray and only view the world as either black or white with nothing in between. Sorry to be the one to tell you, but there’s a lot of gray in the real world.

Posted on January 14, 2011 at 11:29pmThe problem with the progressives is that they think the “American Dream” can be created and distributed by the Government. The “American Dream” is not one thing, it’s a frame of mind. It’s the concept of an individual aiming high and accomplishing the goals he or she is striving to do. It’s the concept of hard work and getting the most out of life. My dream is different then your dream, and is different to the dreams of my neighbors and friends. Government can’t fulfill my dream, only I can do that. I will do achieve MY dream myself. If I fail I have only myself to blame.

@LSX “Progressives should be ashamed – if that were at all possible”
You nailed it – Conservatives err when they expect Progressives to feel shame for their words, actions, and beliefs. We waste our breath and energies pointing out all the times when they should be ashamed because they could care less. According to their leader, Saul Alinsky, telling the truth and being consistent is not a winning strategy. Progressives are all about winning at ANY cost. Read their manifesto written by Saul Alinsky and you’ll understand that feeling shame is something they only pay attention to when they can use it against conservatives.
They know that we care about truth and honesty and that we feel shame when we err, so they point it out very publicly whenever a conservative makes a mistake… but do not be misled by their ecstasy when pointing out our mistakes – that it means they truly care anything about honor… it doesn’t – it just means they might have a better chance of ‘winning when they can point out conservative’s imperfections. How often have conservatives dropped out of races when some skeleton was found in their closet… but when was the last time a Lewinskyite stepped down or even admitted that any error was made?
Seriously folks – quit wasting your breath on pointing out the left’s hypocrisy! They could care less whether or not they are hypocritical or else they wouldn’t be so good at it.
Focus instead on the fact that their policies never work – and that the long-range unintended consequences and missed opportunities are far more damaging than the short-term benefits they are promoting.
‘Catching’ the left in another lie is like accusing snakes of being “biters”… Duh! – They have no other option since their ideas do not work!

If Obama truly wished for us to “thrive,” he would listen to the majority will of the American people and honor his oath to the Constitution and the rule of law.
With 27 million Americans unemployed or under-employed, it is time for this Administration to back up their so-called concerns for the “creation of jobs.” Mandate e-Verify nationwide, and 7 to 8 million jobs currently held by illegal aliens would open up overnight…
We all deserve to thrive; not just our political elites!

It is not the phrase that is reprehensible, for we all can appreciate it (yes JZS your screwed up bias and bigorty once again forces you to look down at everyone here exept your buddies). You, either on purpose or because unconsciously you are who you hate, just don’t get it. Free tee shirts at a memorial service? When have you ever seen such a thing? Seriously? I’ve been to funerals for Presidents, and other government servants, Democrats and Republicans, and I’ve never ever seen anyone offering tee shirts for “mourners” to wear, and I think this is the first time any of us have seen such a horrible disregard for people who have been mass murdered. That our president and government made no attempt to return the occasion to the somber event it should have been, and that you don’t condemn that, speaks volumes. When you are wrong, you are wrong, and you are almost always wrong, so why don’t you just shut up?
