Rush Limbaugh Explains Why He Apologized: ‘In Fighting Them I Became Like Them’

Rush Limbaugh opened his popular radio show on Monday with a lengthy explanation about why he decided to apologize to Sandra Fluke — the law student fighting for religious colleges to cover birth control — whom he called a “prostitute” and a “slut” last week. In short, he said, he had a moment of weakness and stooped to the left’s level.

“In fighting them [liberals] I became like them,” Limbaugh explained.  “I do not think she is either of those two words. I did not think last week she was either of those two words.”

“I became like the people we oppose. I ended up descending to their level. It’s important to never be like them,” he added, before reiterating that “the apology was heartfelt, the apology was sincere.”

He then went on to quote a Washington Examiner article explaining how the Democrats “played games” with Fluke’s testimony. For example, Fluke wasn’t supposed to initially testify, but Democrats tried to swap her in at the last minute. When Republican Darrel Issa wouldn’t allow it, they “staged” Flukes testimony in front of a subcommittee.

“Her testimony was not that of an expert,” Limbaugh said, pointing out how it was based on “vague examples based on unnamed friends”

It was a “fast one” and a “trick,” he said. But instead of focusing on that aspect last week, he decided to go after Fluke.

“I acted too much like the leftists who despise me,” he said. “It’s way beneath me. It’s way beneath you.”

“Everyone was being true to their nature, except me.”

Later he tried to squash any theories behind his apology and went on to say the public shouldn’t expect such apologies from the left

Regarding the advertisers who left his show over the remarks, he made it a personal matter with the audience: “It’s a business decision, and it’s theirs alone to make. They‘ve decided that they don’t want you anymore or your business.” That was after opening the show by joking that he tried to call himself to cancel his own Two If By Tea advertisements but got a busy signal.

“We’ll replace them,” he said later.

      First of all, Rush didn’t apologize, he just made a reference to a poor choice of words or whatever, the sort of non-apology politicians make. Now, what does he do? Now he blames his words on someone else. He wasn’t responsible for the choice his of words, the references to her sex life, the demand that she post x-rated videos on youtube, the mocking of her parents, somebody else was. He is blameless.

      Third, Rush couldn’t care less about what he said or who he tried to hurt. He makes a living saying outrageous, defamatory things. He simply knows he’s losing advertisers, that’s all he knows or cares about. You won’t read it here, but Rush has lost eight advertisers so far, including, as of today, AOL.

      AOL and ProFlowers .. also pulled advertising .. no more eof either for me. Along with Carbonite and Select Comfort .. which I have both and purchased BECAUSE they were on Rush’s show.

      Makes sense for her to do so. Beck gave Craig Bannister a platform to strawman the idea that she spends $1000 a year on condoms, and thus has sex 2.74 times a day. Rush took their conversation and ran with it. None of them chose to debate the actual topic (that insurance should cover contraceptives), but instead went for personal attacks by pretending she meant only condoms instead of the actual conversation, which revolved around medical contraceptives that help out other conditions (such as hormone regulation and stopping cancerous cysts from developing).

      Rush, again, I’m with you. Those hateful, ugly, ungrateful liberal types can use all the horrid & filthy language they want, and not a comment about it.. From listening to them and reading what they say, I fell into their trap of using their same type offensive language.

      OK! I’m going back to using more respectful language, regardless of the other hateful MSM types and TV (supposed comedians) and angry, hateful commentators .

      From this day forward, I will have more respect for myself and use language that tells it like it is, not cutting corners, but give my opinion regardless of how strong my disapproval of what THEY stand for.

      There is NOTHING in the liberal lifestyle or opinions or beliefs that I will ever share with them. I’d like to call them, back at ‘ya words, but I digress, I can’t copy the crude language & opinions they use that helps make their lifestyle and thinking so abhorrent.

      Lord help us to never be like Sheila Jackson Lee or Maxine Waters and their Ilk. Pelosi may not use cuss words, but what she says & believes in is almost as tasteless and I’ve always heard you can also go to Hell for lying. I’ve used a few cuss words, but at least I’m an honest person.

      I use to tune in on The View once in awhile because of Whoopie & her humor. I liked Rosie & her humor but when “that over-the-top” stuff comes out, they lost me. After the two gals walked off when Bill O’Reilly was on the show, they lost me. For that matter, don’t watch news channels except Fox News. What news there is on the “other” channels, Fox,Glenn,Rush will show it. Don’t need to watch the other channels because it is the same ole“ same ole”.

      He should apologize for what he said because he was wrong. But since his admission of guilt contains his normal “I’m just an idiot entertainer” BS it is no harm. Those whole follow Rush will never understand.
      Rush, a drug addict and sex tourist, will never understand true morality. He doesn’t have it.

      If Rush has ultra libs as advertisers, then good riddance. I bought flowers from ProFlowers a few weeks ago. Their order taker asked me where I got their name. I said that Rush always talks about them and that they had an ad on Drudge. The order take never heard of Drudge and made light of Rush. Never again from ProFlowers.

      Should the One decide to host a beer summit with Rush and Ms Fluke (is that the sound of hell freezing over?) perhaps Rush should request a pre-condition that he will attend ONLY AFTER the One chastises Mr. Maher for his comments about Sarah Palin and returns the million dollars. Until then, the One’s keeping of the money signifies that he and his bobble-headed acolytes condone Mr Maher’s language.

      The “lady” in question is a womens rights activist and had her minute of fame testifying about her excessive sex life leading her into bankruptcy because of the high expense of contraceptives. Come on, why apologize for calling her a “prostitute” and “slut.” She sold herself to the liberals and that’s “prostitution” and when a person has MULTIPLE sex partners, the word “slut” is appropriate.By her own admittance she’s what is called “easy” and certainly has no right to testify as a professional before a government committee about her sex life and the need for taxpayers to foot the bills for her ‘flopping around.” I’m disappointed with Rush, his apology is related to economics and not what is right or wrong. What he said was the truth, but some of his sponsors dropped him and he had a change of $$$$$$$$ heart. Just saying !

His disrespect and insulting rhetoric is so damaging to the Republican and conservative cause in terms of the negative impact on independents that it should be an intolerable liability for the Republicans. No need to even go into the fact that you only take one pill a day and the amount of sex you have is irrelevant or that fact that issue is one of insurance coverage not taxpayers footing the bill. Rush couldn’t present an issue factually or sincerely, even if that was what his audience wanted. Which of course they don’t.

      He was wrong to apologise. The left will never accept the apology, they want to destroy Limbaugh. Limbaugh however is a $50 million a year concern. He will indeed replace the advertisers he lost over this. Tellingly…the left (including Two-Bag Fluke) are still trying to get more advertisers to leave Limbaugh but this was never about “personal” things, this became about bringing down Limbaugh and by proxy, weakening and discrediting conservatives. In the end, businesses look at their advertising gains…if they’re made money, they will stay. At $50million a year…likely they’ll stay. Limbaugh hasn’t learned the lesson..let me correct that..he briefly forgot the lesson… we’ve learned over and over with the left. The left has no friends, no civlity, no morals. We’ve seen this with OWS where churches who helped them ended up being abused by the stinking OWSers. Men’s Wearhouse supported OWS, it was still vandalised by OWS. They don’t have friends, they don’t have civility, they don’t have morals. They’re a beast that is ravenous, unprincipled and without pity. It’s time to cull their numbers..starting with Two-Bag Fluke herself. She injected herself into this. She’s now fairgame, it’s time to vet Fluke. Let‘s see what she’s hiding.

      I understand that they can help regulate blood flow, due to some women having extreme menstrual cycles. I was trying to point out that someone is making Contraceptives more “life-saving” than what they really are. And that is where they are trying to defend their “right” to having the tax payers pay for their Contraceptives. They think that they HAVE TO BE covered in their policies. Well, they don’t. And if that is the game they wish to play, then men should have their Condoms paid for in their policies as well. Because, if you review the definition of a Contraceptive, they are to help “prevent pregnancy.” And what do Condoms do? Help prevent pregnancy. And before you jump the gun; Condoms/Contraceptives are NOT 100% guaranteed to do as they say. They will not guarantee that you will not become pregnant.

      And who says that “Republican” is gone? The term, “Democrat” is further away than “Republican” is. Or should I refer to them as they really are? Communist, Marxist, Socialist. Yep, that pretty much says it all.

      My point is what is a republican anymore?
      We have Rhinos, we have Beck call Gingrich
      a progressive, Mitts not conservative enough, Paul
      is a libertarian, Rick is too focused on social
      issues and too conservative. This isnt me saying
      this. This is every republican I talk to has a
      different opinion and none of it’s good. With
      different people I’ve been called all 4 of those

      Actually Billy and AvenJerk, I have spoken out against that kind of language. As I‘ve said a number of times I’m no fan of Ed Schultz or Lawrence O’Donnell. I don’t have cable or watch TV much, but when those guys pop up in the news you can generally catch on youtube. When Schultz called Laura Ingram a name, not only did I find that offensive (I think I commented on that) I cringed because that kind of nonsense is what you expect from the Tea Party, not the left who I expect better from. That was stupid and made him look bad and the left in general, to the degree he’s a spokesman for the left.

      That‘s a difference between us though isn’t it? No matter how offensive a person is, if you agree with them politically, you cheer them on. No matter how revolting the person, you’ll defend them. Sorry but many people standards and values of my own, and don’t depend on am radio hosts to tell them right from wrong.

      In any case, listen to the advertisers who put their money where their pundit’s mouths are. Shultz didn’t lose any (although I felt sick at his Ingram remark), Beck lost every single one of his major advertisers and left the air, and Rush lost a lot of his. You want to know the pulse of the country? Follow the money. When your message is so toxic a company refuses to run commercials on your very popular show because they don’t want their brand associated with you, you’ve stepped over the line.

      Why then did you not just chime in with a “I’m not a fan of Rush”

      And before you go putting words in my mouth again, you would be hard pressed to ever find a post of mine where I am towing anyone’s line, be it Rush, Glenn, or anyone else.

      I am right wing JZS, we all know that, and I do despise most anything associated with the left, but I do not blindly buy in to any one persons ideology just because they are on the right.

      They all have their strong points and weak points.

      But when it comes to the left, it gets real hard to find any strong points at all, anywhere, ever.

      It is a cancer that is eating it’s host from the inside out.

      I am glad that my best years a behind me. But I feel deep sadness for the youth, even the ones on the left because they have no clue what course they are plotting for their own future. The indoctrination of the youth by the left is truly insidious.

      Billy I have disagreed with liberal pundits here a number of times, something I’ve never heard you do even once no matter how revolting their comments. Not once. Correct me if I’m wrong.

      Sorry if saying I’m “not a fan” and “that remark was offensive” and that “I cringe” when I hear left wing people on TV say stupid things isn’t enough of a renunciation for you. But it‘s more than you’ve ever said about any thread, any post, any comment, any anti-semetic or or otherwise racist comment, no matter how offensive to the average person that comment is (and people here aren’t “average people” no matter how much they’d like to think they are). Maybe you don’t “buy in” to any opinion that you are fed, but you certainly have never seperated yourself from those opinions. I hope you do in your personal life, and believe you do, even if you are afraid to post those differences here.

      I worry about the world – all of it – and the future, but I have no sadness for the youth, even my own. The next generation is more tolerant of others – as the population expands and the interaction between other cultures increases – and smarter, way smarter. They are prepared to understand the difference between the real problems and the false ones. They’ll do fine.

      I appreciate your post and your heartfelt words.

      The rest of the world could lift itself up to our standards, (or more correctly, our standards from a while back) if it wanted to. But the left feels it is more important to knock us down to third world levels to achieve fairness. Ain’t gonna work, for nobody.

      @JSZ, Rush said exactly what he meant to. He apologized for calling her a slut and the name calling but didn’t back down from the political point. His apology was that he made it personal not that he was wrong.

      Regardless this seems like a dreadful woman on a crusade to kill more babies. She didn’t have any trouble demonizing him or others. Her testimony was an insult to the political process.

      Billy, I see your point. Personally, I don’t know and I have never heard of a liberal who believes in the “grandiose fantasy of a New World Order” or in the “myth of the divine emperor,” but if I ever meet somebody like that, I’ll recommend the book. Yes, if I ever were to come across or read that someone believed the things that person claims liberals believe, I’d think they were kooky too.

      Another recommendation: anything by Charles Dickens, but my favorites are Oliver Twist and David Copperfield. If the United States keeps redistributing the nations wealth to the top, shrinking the middle class and expanding the number of people in poverty, while also removing the chance at an education or any help at all for the poor, Dickens describes pretty well what our country will look like. And that’s what your grandchildren can look forward to: begging in the streets and living in slums. But at least they’ll be free, just like Oliver Twist.

      Rodster, I am a woman and I TOTALLY agree with you! Rush should not have caved. The so-called conservative candidates should not have reprimanded him. And the sponsors are showing their obvious lack of character by encouraging feminists to force their agenda on women and young girls. They’ve been shaming honorable women into silence for years.     It’s cool Rush. Good message to make. To bad Carbonite (The big C) has shown their business is fine with Ed Shultz and not you. Makes it easy for the consumer to be better informed on whom they are supporting and where their money spent is going and “the big C” has made it clear that money they earn from the consumers is well spent supporting Shultz’s socialist show, but when it comes to conservatism, they want nothing to do with conservationism, they just wanted our money. Shultz can use the same language as Rush and “the big C” drops Rush? Looks like i don’t need to pay “the big C” to sponsor Shultz and not Rush. There’s other vendors for off-site backup, so Carbonite no longer supports Rush, OK, we don’t support Carbonite anymore either. No problem for me. Maybe I’ll Mozy on up to a better provider.

      GORGIEJO: Agree with you. I’m going to get a list of those holier-than-thou advertisers and carry it around with me so I don’t make a mistake and deal with any of them.

      I told my husband to NEVER NEVER buy anymore PRO FLOWERS. From now on, use a local florist or go to the Safeway to get a bouquet. I’m tired of those cheap glass vases anyway.

      And too bad, I was looking into using Legal Zoom for some personal use, but will pull it up on the internet or go to the Office Supply store for forms. BLA BLA BLA! Hope all you who really didn’t support Rush to begin with are the real losers. That’s KARMA!

    The left always pulls these kind of moves, right away everyone should boycott companies who advertise with TV or radio stations who don’t share the same beliefs as them. Well folks, one way we can get back at them is to stop giving our money to companies who are so shallow that they listen to the left, or right for that matter. This past weekend several companies stopped advertising on the Rush Limbaugh radio show because of certain remarks Rush made during his show last week. Here’s a list of some of the companies that pulled the plug. Carbonite, Sears, Pro Flowers, e-harmony, Quicken, Sleep Train Mattress, Lending Tree. I think it’s time to pull the plug on these companies until they take politics out of their everyday business.

      Let’s be objective: both sides do it. How many people said “Oh, I’ll donate to Komen now” when they stopped giving money to Planned Parenthood? And then turned right around when Komen reversed their decision and called for a boycott of a charity that exists to help early detection and cure cancer?

      In the end, money talks better than words. Komen saw it would lose money because of the Planned Parenthood debacle. Limbaugh was undoubtedly pressured by his host company because they were set to lose advertising revenue.

You can’t run off the black vote, the hispanic vote, the college graduate vote, the labor vote AND the women’s vote and expect to win a general election. You can win regionalized house elections and statewide elections in the evangelical south, but any examination of political history proves you can’t be perceived (rightly or wrongly) as radical or in this case reactionary and expect to win a general election. In the past month Republican candidates have come out AGAINST universal college availability, contraception, voter access, progressive taxation, and the social safety net. To Americans outside of the tea party this sounds like a return to the 19th century, and at no time has America elected a candidate promising to go backwards in time.       Are you seriously this stupid? The WHOLE issue is based on Obama’s desire to gut the 1st amendment and FORCE a church run hospital/organization to hand out birth control pills against their doctrine. That’s a no-no according to the Constitution. As for the “insurance” part of it. I’ve NEVER had an insurance policy cover BC. It costs 30.00 per month for 360.00 per year. If buying condoms and you’re dividing that 3000.00 as being the entire sexual encounter overhead costs for 3 years…condoms cost appr. 12.00 per box of 10. Fluke and her unnamed friends can each buy slightly over 83 boxes for a total of 830 condoms. Since there’s 365 days in a year, these girls are hoppin’! Just imagine how busy if they were spending 3000.00. If these women weren‘t having sex with people they don’t know and concerned about STD’s, then they really need to rethink their lives. And yes, as a woman, I think their behavior falls under “skank”.

      Rush is taking on “his own” conscience and consequences of “his own actions”. Sounds corny now-a-days but we cannot “run-away-from-ourselves” & when we look in the mrror, we need to acknowledge our own truths. In my late 20′s, I was on Valium for 2 years because I think it was childhood PTS and I shut-down. I got my act together and came back stronger (God’s Grace and He had a better life for me & I listened to Him). After that experience, I can see where many people just want to “zone-out” and not deal with life But if you have your act together, like Rush & Glenn,and out there in public, they HAVE to remain TRUE to themselves. SO BACK OFF from Rush & Glenn in the future..because “they have their act together” & giving us news to ponder to take or leave but both men are ….thinking of the song “Make Them Hear You”.

    If anyone actually believes that Rushbo is losing advertisers, rest assured that for every cowardly advertiser who panics and caves in to the lefties and skedaddles (and their number is miniscule), there are hundreds, thousands of other advertisers who have been waiting in line for years to advertise their products on his extremely highly rated show.

      dang, “callous” and “wrong”, can’t do anything right. I will listen more often to Rush now. Been a fan since Dan’s bake sale, although reading most of these comments has turned my stomach and a bake sale is out.
