Rush Releases Apology Statement to Georgetown Law Student Sandra Fluke

After much criticism for his choice of words in remarking on Sandra Fluke, the Georgetown University law student called to testify on Capitol Hill this past week in regards to the cost of birth control, Rush Limbaugh has issued a statement on his website apologizing to the law student.:
“For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.
I think it is absolutely absurd that during these very serious political times, we are discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress. I personally do not agree that American citizens should pay for these social activities. What happened to personal responsibility and accountability? Where do we draw the line? If this is accepted as the norm, what will follow? Will we be debating if taxpayers should pay for new sneakers for all students that are interested in running to keep fit?In my monologue, I posited that it is not our business whatsoever to know what is going on in anyone’s bedroom nor do I think it is a topic that should reach a Presidential level.
My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.”
While commenting on Fluke’s testimony during his radio program Wednesday, Limbaugh unloaded against the 30-year-old co-ed using language that has since been criticized by many to have crossed the line.
“What does it say about the college co-ed Susan (sic) Fluke who goes before a Congressional committee and says she must be paid to have sex?” Limbaugh said Wednesday. “What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She’s having so much sex, she can’t afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex. What does that make us? We’re the pimps.”

In this case Rush wasn’t challenging her beliefs, he was attacking her and her parents on a very personal level, including accusing her of being a slut, graphically speculating on her sex life, and suggesting she post videos of her having intercourse.
That people here think Rush, with a listening audience of millions, is welcome to try to destroy a young woman’s life based on a her heartfelt expressions of a political view he disagrees with is sad and pathetic. Like another before him, his advertisers began to drop him and ones that didn’t pressured him I have no doubt. This capitalism friends: advertisers aren‘t going support someone who is so offensive they don’t want their brand associated with him. You have to love capitalism, because it imposes limits on human decency that the First Amendment does not.
As an American though I am saddened that people cheer Rush’s character assassination of of a young woman who was only speaking on behalf of what the majority of women in this country believe. Good luck Republicans, with this guy as your spokesperson, you have an uphill battle.

How is what Rush said hateful? You have a woman who goes before CONGRESS, and shamelessly throws out bogus numbers and stats on the cost of birth control as if nobody would ever double check her figures. She also asks that the Federal Government… who gets their money from other people like you and me… the taxpayers… foot the bill to make it possible for her to engage in sex. Okay, that is FACT. We agree on that because it actually happened, it was captured on video and audio.
All Rush did was point this FACT out. “She is asking for other people to PAY, in order for her to engage in sexual activity.“ THEN Rush asked this question ”What do you call a woman who asks for other people to pay, (foot the bill, compensate, make financially possible) for her to have sex?”
He stated the fact which was televised and recoded, and then asked a question based upon facts presented. I fail to see how that is hateful. He didn’t say that he hated her. He didn’t say that she was a slut or a prostitute. He said that what she was doing, was presenting herself AS a slut or prostitute. He even explained this.
See you guys don’t listen. You hear only what you want to hear. You are not as enlightened as you think yourselves to be. If you are reading the posts of trolls like JZS and believing them you will never get it. This is just a commie trick; just like JZS says that Glenn Beck lost sponsors and got kicked off of Fox. GB did not renew his contract, stayed past the date his contract with Fox was over until Fox could put together a 5PM replacement for his show. GB left Fox to start his own network, where he could say whatever he wanted and he is doing great. I think his wife told him to back down… not his sponsors. In a few days Rush will come out and explain after he and his wife finds out what a liar this Fluke is.

When your insurance covers a prescription or treatment, that doesn’t mean the prescription or treatment is “free,” as though the government is paying for it. See, you pay for insurance. Probably a lot, like 10K a year or more. And the insurance pays for the prescription. Do you see how that works?
The second thing is simply that I marvel about how the TP party can embrace the most despicable language from anyone provided they agree with them politically. You don’t seem even realize how, in this case, inappropriate it was to call a young woman a slut and mock her parents. Even when several advertisers drop Rush for the coments, you still don’t “get it.”

Unless you are one of the many that can not afford the cost of said MANDATED insurance.
Then of course, the government, (cough….taxpayers…. cough) ends up subsidizing, (cough…. footing the bill for….cough) the insurance that many can’t pay for themselves.

Listening to him for many years now, one thing I am comfortable saying is that Rush is not someone who bows to pressure. If that was the case he would have been off the air years ago. Either you don’t have insurance – in which case I’m sorry – or you don’t understand how insurance companies make a profit. When an insurance company covers a prescription or exam or medical insurance, that isn’t “free.” The insuree pays for it. Insurance companies make money – and they are making record profits btw, and still jacking up prices – because most people spend less on medical expenses than they pay out for insurance coverage. And that’s okay, except the jacked up prices, because consumers recognize that up front and always have – insurance of different kinds has been around for at least 500 years.
You buy to insurance to cover yourself against an unexpected medical expense that might bankrupt you and and your family and you leave you either homeless or reliant the government to even feed your kids and yourself. So you pay more than you probably would otherwise, but that extra money is paid against the possibility that you might have an unexpected medical emergency, like cancer or a child born with heart problems or whatever.
In any case, the government isn’t paying for an insurees prescriptions or medical procedures or whatever. Insurance companies are happy to pay for contraceptives because that’s cheaper than paying for prenatal care, the cost of delivery and other costs associated with having young children.

You agree that it is ok for government to mandate that private companies offer a certain goods/services only as long it is in line with your political views.
You didn’t answer the question because it would expose your inconsistency. You want to have your cake and eat it too.
I told you no explanation was needed, but you didn’t understand that. You either believe government has the power to mandate such things or you don’t…they don’t. Your support or lack thereof is irrelevant.
You couldn’t even man up and answer a yes or no question. Do you not see your own hypocrisy?
BTW, my father received a letter in the mail regarding his upcoming increase in insurance premiums. They cited the new health care law as the sole purpose for this increase.

She likely had supporters who had more to putting her up to this than it was her idea entirely. It all just lines up too neatly with this contraception craziness. Never in my life have I ever seen that contraception was not easily obtainable and relatively inexpensive. And no, I am not talking about a men’s room prophylactic dispenser. There are discount pharmacies, and even free outlets for anybody who truly cannot afford to purchase these products. This attack is just another attempt to contort the Catholic Church into their own twisted image. Considering how I have heard her name pronounced now in the news, we are all about to get Fluked.

However, I use to listen to Rush but the facts he used to make a point were skewed and verifiable as false, and that is when I stopped listening to him.
If he had originally treated this incident without histrionics he could have had a stronger impact and put the issue on socialized birth control and not on Rush. Not very selfless.
