Rush Rocks NYC in Rare Speech, as Anti-Limbaugh Protest Fizzles in the Drizzle

Limbaugh Met by Protesters at New York SpeechIt was a rare public appearance for Rush Limbaugh on Tuesday night. But on a rain-soaked evening in New York City, the conservative media idol didn’t disappoint his audience, or the protesters who showed up to rattle him. His message? For the most part it was this: four more years of Barack Obama will be detrimental to the country.

That message was punctuated with plenty of personal anecdotes, told in the gruff, almost sing-songy way that has come to define Limbaugh. His main story focused on a visit from a friend last Saturday who encouraged Limbaugh to urge compromise with Democrats.

Limbaugh’s response was simple: “I want to cream them,” he said of the Democrats.

“I don’t want to compromise,” he explained, later adding, “I see only something that needs to be defeated.”

The message resonated with the crowd, which took on an almost stadium feel. There was raucous applause throughout, people who randomly shouted out their thoughts, and even boos directed toward the liberals Limbaugh — clad in black and standing in front of a simple 77WABC backdrop — mentioned.

It was the type of speech that was “red meat” for conservatives (plenty of shots at Obama and hat tips to conservatives being the majority in the country), and would likely have turned the protesters who showed up outside the venue red hot.

About 20 protesters eventually showed up in the intermittent rain to “flush Rush Limbaugh,” as one of their chants went. They held signs calling him homophobic, fascist and a “tool of the 1%:”

While vocal, though, they may have been disappointed in their numbers. When I asked the gentleman who appeared to be the organizer how many people he expected to show up, he responded “100:”

That estimate was in stark contrast to the about seven to 10 who showed up initially from the socialist Worker’s World Party and the International Action Center:

But the sparse group wasn’t met without resistance. Audience members who had lined up outside the Time Square-area theater let the protesters know what they thought of the protesters’ hygiene, and at one point even broke out into “God Bless America” to drown out the anti-Limbaugh hate:

The protest was short-lived, however. As soon as most people filed into the venue, and the rain started pouring down, the group packed up and left.

Inside, Limbaugh took notice.

“The Occupy people are finally getting a shower.”

    I AGREE………..EVERY LAST Democrat needs to be defeated at EVERY level of government. We will only begin to solve the problem when there are LOTS and LOTS of bureaucrats in the unemployment line. Then, and ‘princess nancy’ said, watch the ecomomy take off….

    Thank God for Rush-he was the lonely voice for a long time. Then more came, levine, the girls, and Hannity, then the best teacher of history, the best, and most honest person to put all the small pieces together-Glenn. I pray daily for all these good people to be safe (and their families and staff and their families.) There are so many who would do anything to shut them up.God bless them, God bless the tea party and freedom works. Finally those of us who heard the call, and it resonated in our heart’s, have teachers and groups who are fighting for what’s right and for our country. For a long time Rush was the voice in the wilderness, and now there is a mighty chorus. Please God we will take our country out of the evil one’s clutches and restore honor, courage and what’s really good in our country.

      I listen to my Liberal friends call him a blowhard, liar, hate monger and whatever stupid phrase they have been programmed by the machine to say. I’m simply amazed. It’s so excruciatingly simple. All he ever does is tell the truth. Nothing more and nothing less. If they ever used their own minds and ears they’d know this. It’s like mass hypnotism. He‘s always exactly right and he didn’t say it but I will: You don’t negotiate with evil. You defeat and destroy evil – unconditionally.       You are SO right. I am THRILLED that the response was what it was. Maybe the majority really IS waking up to the danger this administration poses and the damage it has already done (which we will HAVE to undo asap) to this great country. It really is not hard to understand. The Constitution works, it is what separates us from the rest of the world and enables us to be a beacon to it.

The radio and The Blaze and all these sites- I get “ news” from on the internet. Without them I would be at the mercy of— T.V. NEWS!!!       The Democrat Party with its Kenyan Candidate in the Oval Office has been able to do to America something the Germans, Japanese, and USSR was incapable of doing.       Rush has been around for quite some time but I learned about the progressives from Marlin Maddoux in the very early ’80s on his show “Point of View.” He even had a guest on that discussed how the money we saved now that the cold war is over would have to go to some emergency… and he then discussed the environmental movement as the most likely way to keep taxes high on the American people.
      The progressives have “owned” the television airwaves but we slowly woke up and now we’re a force to reckon with. We just need to distance ourselves from the RINOs and stay true to our cause.

      Mega-dittos. Rush is by far the best conservative voice in America. I don’t know what this country would do without him. No one comes close to his influence or intellect. I love Beck, too – but now that he’s off Fox, his voice has diminished. I wish he would come back to Fox – I learned a lot of history from that man!

    Dear Protesters, If your goal is to get rid of Rush it would be easy to do. Simply insist that the media actually do their job and tell us the truth.       I’ve only seen common speches and uncommon speches, but the rare speches are ever elusive. I hope to bag one this hunting season, but the chances are pretty low that this will happen, given as they’re rare.

      I keep offering to help proof stories and headlines, and I have the academic and professional credentials to back up that offer, but as somebody else noted a while back, apparently I don’t know the secret password or the mysterious hand signs required to get the Blaze staff to respond. Such a shame too, far too many headlines and articles are riddled with bad spelling and/or typos that a simple proof would catch.

Later Rush said he was the reason for Clinton and the 20% that voted for him were to blame. Really Rush! Just maybe it was the 80% that did not take this warning that is to Blame. At the time Rush said this, a little voice in my head said “how can deficits be good”, but then what the heck Rush said it, has to be true. Rush was not the only So called Conservatives saying this.       It was Cheney quote. You probably remember Rush discussing that quote with Cheney on his show after the credit downgrade from AAA to AA. I remember because Cheney was being blasted in the media for basically saying that all of a sudden deficits DO matter.

      I think he may be right about Rush agreeing that deficits dont matter, but it’s the context of deficits that do. Obviously, there are several schools of thought here on deficit spending. I’m not going to try to post a definite based on memory as fact. Wish I could find the conversation between Rush and Cheney but youtube fails to deliver this time.

      Unfortunately, the entire government body has been geared to separate the producer from their money and redistribute that wealth to the non-producers

    The folks who are getting the free stuff don’t like the folks who are paying for the free stuff, because the folks who are paying for the free stuff can no longer afford to pay for both the free stuff and their own stuff.

    And, the folks who are paying for the free stuff want the free stuff to stop.
    And the folks who are getting the free stuff want even more free stuff on top of the free stuff they are already getting!

    So… the people who are GETTING the free stuff have been convinced they need to hate the people who are paying for the free stuff by the people who are forcing some people to pay for their free stuff and giving them the free stuff in the first place.

    We have let the free stuff giving go on for so long that there are now more people getting free stuff than paying for the free stuff.

    Now understand this. All great democracies have committed financial suicide somewhere between 200 and 250 years after being founded.

    The reason?
    The voters figured out they could vote themselves money from the treasury by electing people who promised to give them money from the treasury in exchange for electing them.

    Did the Dems compromise on the Frank-Dodd Bill…the Healthcare Act…how about the 787 Billion Dollar Stimulus? Did they even attempt a compromise at putting forth a budget? What is it now 3 years and no budget from the Dems? When the left are in the minority…they issue compromise orders like they did in the mid 2000′s…and we did. When the left are in the majority…they laugh at us walking towards Capitol Hill with the Gavel in their hands daring us to even whisper the word compromise.       Rush comments once in awhile that the IRS trys to nail him for years to report business income with NYC and he left NYC years ago. Love that he flies in and flies out and the IRS keeping tabs on him and will again send him forms for next year trying to get our beloved Rush for tax fraud.
      So happy for Rush and Catherine that they found their true love in their later years. Being that Rush is a married man and very happy, he will live longer and that is a plus for us who try and listen to his daily radio program.

      TRONINTHEMORNING, you twit, did you read the article? No, and that makes you the tool, an old rusty one at that. The protesters called Rush a tool of the 1%, is he that or is he one of the people who factually are in the top 1% of earners in the world, my guess is that he is in the top 1%, he makes a very large income from his radio empire, perhaps you hadn’t heard about that being the tool that you are.

      Back when I had a job, I worked for the 1%. Life was good then. Some months ago I asked a poor guy for a job; said he couldn’t afford to pay me.

    Yes, lets protest a private citizen that made his money off of people that WANT to pay him. Don’t protest the government that steals and illegally takes 40% (or more) of your hard earned cash…that would be stupid!
