Rush: True Story of Thanksgiving Is ‘How Socialism Failed’

Rush Limbaugh is getting the nation prepared for Thanksgiving by comparing President Obama’s new proclamation with the original version from George Washington. And in between he concludes that the true story of Thanksgiving is ‘how socialism failed.”

Our first clip includes Limbaugh’s disbelief about the Obama statement. Rush is pretty sure he’s being punked:

(via DailyRushbo)

Rush then talks to a caller. Mediaite walks us through what happened:

Limbaugh clarified what the real story of Thanksgiving is about: “the true story of Thanksgiving is how socialism failed,” he tells the caller, noting that “the Indians didn’t teach us capitalism” and “we shared our bounty with them… because we first failed as socialists.” The caller, David, seemed thrilled with that explanation, but it sounds like the sort of thing American history scholars may have a bit of a problem with. This section of the next clip comes at the 7:30 mark:

And now finally, Rush share his “True Story of Thanksgiving,“ from his book ”See, I Told You So”:

Our Constitution is being RAPED by social progressive communists and we as americans are setting back and not creating the outrage that needs to occur by writting and calling our reps; even tp gear up our trucks with signs calling for his impeachment as he is certainly is a traitor to this country and has done nothing to uphold his oath of office to protect and defend the constitution. I think they‘ve made the biggest financial mess that any government’s ever made in this country for a very long time, and Socialist governments traditionally do make a financial mess. They always run out of other people’s money. It’s quite a characteristic of them. They then start to nationalise everything, and people just do not like more and more nationalisation, and they’re now trying to control everything by other means. They’re progressively reducing the choice available to ordinary people.

Socialism is a dream…and a very bad dream….I find it funny when our younger people 18-25 year old’s that spew this thinking with “feel good” words and “I am more caring than YOU” type of talk that they most likely from their birthday all through college they were suckling from their mothers tit to the Government tit. So they know very little about making money! …me I didn’t elect to go to college, I went to work to make MONEY! and develop what is called a “Work Ethic” ….

I am a conservative. But, I can tell you that we’ve had trouble making money all along. We’ve tried to be self-employed 5 times, but got discouraged each time because of government competition, undercutting prices, and govt regulations. I can tell you for a fact that food stamps have helped us to eat, and have made us lazy. I just cannot figure out how to make garden vegetables grow, and keep farm animals alive. But, I bet I could figure it out, ask someone to show me, stand on my head and think harder, find books about it, if I actually got hungry! I take food stamps now, we have been out of work for 1.5 years, but I would vote against them. I understand, and I understand! Perhaps if it were a little harder to get them, it would be good for me. Currently, I send my husband to sign up for them, as I think it would help him to get the picture. I quit being the one to rescue us. (I’m the wife, – Barb.)

Socialism will always fail. Every time Socialism was invoked the nation failed not long after. We were not made to all get along. We all think that we have a better way of running things, instead of trusting in the Lord for everything we need. Rush and Stossel are just pointing out the obvious.

Obama has no dreams of his own. He and Joe plagiarize theirs. HRC’s are “Dreams from Pol Pot”. She got started hating Nixon, who got started exposing communists in Government (Hissss). Nancy Pelosi dreams of leading the first commune to Aquarius. Harry Reid dreams of Nancy/Lucy holding the football and him kicking it. If they had lead the Pilgrims, they would not have stopped for beer and New England would still be primeval forest.

This is interesting; however, not completely accurate. As far as I can tell, the first Socialistic economy was set up by the first Christians after the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The first chapters of Acts describes how the Christians pooled together everyone’s wealth for all to benefit from. Each person sold his land to add to the community pot.

      You’re right, and…

      it was temporary.

That first community was created to assist the Jewish pilgrims who had traveled to Jerusalem for Passover/Pentecost and while there experienced the start of the church with the promised coming of the Holy Spirit.

Those people eventually went home and took the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them. The large part of the church that remained in Jerusalem was eventually scattered as well due to persecutions.

That communal situation was voluntary. Socialism is compulsory.

Yes, and that model still lives on in the monastic communities of the Orthodox and Roman Churches — those who have followed the counsel Christ gave to the “rich young man” who thought he wanted to do even more, and sold all they had, gave the money to the poor, and followed Him. The difference is that whether Pilgrim or Franciscan, they were motivated by a higher calling to Christ, and not some vacuous sloganeering about the workers of the world.

    Part time congress in 2010

    House in session 108 days
    Senate in session 128 days
    This out of 365 days.
So it took only 128 days to ruin USA.
Not to mention the amount of pay they receive for their time at work. About $1600 per day. And I thought I was ok with my $9.25 per hour before I retired due to illness.

    2. The first 3 years everyone worked the GARDEN and the Gov. picked who needed food.
    3. 1/2 the people died again.
    4. Then you got to keep what you grew and ‘Everyone worked’, even the lazy people or they wouldn’t get to eat so, everyone had more than enought.

Agreed, Capitalism is what enables us to take the risk of making a success of ourselves, and to have the ability to dream of goals we wish, while working and growing to make them happen. Socialism is only about conformity – dreams of madmen who wish to make all others conform to their ideals and ways often by the usage of force.

Socialism never will succeed, for the longing to dream even just for freedom, is one force never to be taken out of people around the world. Also, socialists keep pushing people only so far, before you have nothing left to lose and some will fight back with all they are worth. For the strenght they find in desperation may let them win, or take the enemy down at the same time for others following to be free.

Oh dear 5, you’re a little confused. The Pilgrims didn’t lose half on the way over ,they lost one, and gained one. About half died the first winter. After that things got better, although as is being correctly noted, the experiment of keeping all goods in common, as the Mayflower Compact states, was abandoned. This failure though was largely due to the “Strangers,” those of the colonists who were not of the actual Separatist/Brownist sect, and had come along as adventurers.

It shoud be noted that the first Thanksgiving was indeed held when Plymouth was still under the communitarian model.

BTW, I grew up in Plymouth and am more than passingly familiar with the story.
