Russia Threatens To Target U.S. Defense Sites With Nukes

(The Blaze/AP) — Russia will deploy new missiles aimed at U.S. missile defense sites in Europe if Washington goes ahead with the planned shield despite Russia’s concerns, President Dmitry Medvedev said Wednesday.
Russia will station missiles in its westernmost Kaliningrad region and other areas if Russia and NATO fail to reach a deal on the U.S.-led missile defense plans, he said in a tough statement that seemed to be aimed at rallying domestic support.
Russia considers the plans for missile shields in Europe, including in Romania and Poland, to be a threat to its nuclear forces, but the Obama administration insists they are meant to fend off a potential threat from Iran.
Moscow has agreed to consider NATO’s proposal last fall to cooperate on the missile shield, but the talks have been deadlocked over how the system should operate. Russia has insisted that the system should be run jointly, which NATO has rejected.
Medvedev also warned that Moscow may opt out of the New START arms control deal with the United States and halt other arms control talks if the U.S. proceeds. The Americans had hoped that the treaty would stimulate progress further ambitious arms control efforts, but such talks have stalled over tension on the missile plans.
“The United States and its NATO partners as of now aren’t going to take our concerns about the European missile defense into account,” a stern Medvedev said, adding that if the alliance continues to “stonewall” Russia it will take retaliatory action.
The U.S. plan calls for placing land- and sea-based radars and interceptors in European locations over the next decade and upgrading them over time.
Medvedev warned that Russia will deploy short-range Iskander missiles in Kaliningrad, a Baltic Sea exclave bordering Poland, and place weapons in other areas in Russia’s west and south to target U.S. missile defense sites.
Medvedev added that prospective Russian strategic nuclear missiles will be fitted with systems that would allow them to penetrate prospective missile defenses.
He and other Russian leaders have made similar threats in the past, and the latest statement appears to be aimed at domestic audience ahead of Dec. 4 parliamentary elections.
Medvedev, who is set to step down to allow Prime Minister Vladimir Putin reclaim the presidency in March’s elections, leads the ruling United Russia party list in the parliamentary vote.
A sterm warning to the U.S. and NATO issued by Medvedev seems to be directed at rallying nationalist votes in the polls.

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 11:56amThis is why we need a POTUS who is a real alpha-male leader, and that character trait must be projected when the man is still a candidate. Obum failed to do that, and we are suffering the consequences of his appeasement policy. Putin is a hard-core commie who is fighting dirty to rebuild the USSR:
=> “Russia has long since recovered from its economic and military disarray of the early 1990s. Under Vladimir Putin, the former president turned prime minister, it crushed the insurgency in Chechnya several years ago. It has some of the biggest oil and gas companies in the world, and is flush with cash. The U.S., by contrast, is beset with economic and military crises. Whatever support Saakashvili thought Washington could deliver, the U.S. could offer little more than words.”
As a consequence, Russian troops were able to seize control of Georgia fairly quickly and destroy its NATO-class military.”
http://www.isreview.org/issues/61/rep-georgia.shtml
The above words are from a commie website, bragging about Russian imperialism in 2008. Meanwhile, we conservatives continue to help the vile libs and Paulist neolibs defame our Repub candidates. We need to stop calling them all RINOs.
Our next prez needs to drill here and now, and return to free-market principles. As CiC, he needs to WIN OUR WARS with the appropriate ROE, and ignore the media and the lib propaganda so we can effectively curb commie and Islamo-fascist imperialism.

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 3:07pmLet me get this straight, we need missile shields in Europe, including in Romania and Poland to fend off an attack from Iran? Iran is a threat to lob missiles at Romania and Poland? Somehow I find this hard to believe. Sounds like pressure designed to halt Russian support for Iran’s nuclear program to me. If Iran gets a tactical nuke, will Israel finally be willing to concede to stop the continued occupation of Palestine lands? Could Iranian nukes actually be a factor for peace in the Middle East? I rather doubt the dubious accusations that Iran is so insane that they would use nukes in any other way but to persuade the Israelis to be a little less stubborn and NAZI like when dealing with the Palestinian people

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 3:20pmIt’s examples like this that makes me say “Patton Was Right!”.
Patton knew the threat of the Soviet immediately upon Germany’s 1945 capitulation. He wanted to regroup and reequip the allies and move in on Stalin and end his regime. The allies could have had ended three European totalitarian states instead of just two. We had the bomb and maybe should have used the first one on Moscow instead of Hiroshima.
Imagine for a moment if the Soviet Union fell in the late 40′s instead of 1989: Millions of “Eastern Bloc” citizens would have never been enslaved. No Cuban Missile Crisis. Perhaps no Korean or Vietnam War. Maybe there would have been no arms race and no Cold War. There would have been no Soviet invasion of Afghanistan so we would have never backed Usama Bin Laden in the 80′s.
Imagine…
Russia has never been nor will it ever be a friend of the United States. Remember movies like “The Day After” or “Countdown To Looking Glass”. Those scenarios could still play out for real.

A missile shield with so few missile could not prevent Russia from being able to retaliate against a first strike. Russia has nothing to fear. This should be non negotiable. We should build it & let impotent Russian leaders do want they want. Pi$$ & moan to their electorate that they were not able to
intimidate the USA.
That is what this is about internal Russian politics to curry favor to the masses.

How many Nations has China Russia and Iran invaded the past 20-30 years?
————
What’s with the arbitrary number? The only reason China and Russia have not invaded surrounding countries indiscriminately in the past years is because of us. Evil (invasions, crime, attacks) can be deterred. Do nothing and it will spread. But to your question, China is ready to pounce on South Korea if we blink. As to what Iran has already done to Iraq, and its future plans for the region if Hussein stays in office or your candidate were elected, read here: http://worldmeets.us/almokhtsar000001.shtml#axzz1eYGPZ6rU
Russia invaded Georgia (aided separatists) in 1991 and de facto annexed South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Then in 2008, when Georgia tried to recover its stolen territory, Russia attacked Georgia, ravaging the cities of Gori, Poti and Tbilisi. You seem to disregard or ignore how neo-communism and Islamofascism spread. They aid their Trojan horses from within. It’s what Russia did in Venezuela, and what Venezuela, in turn, has done in the South and Central American region. Similarly, Iran has invaded Lebanon and Gaza.

We didn’t right to invade Afghanistan?

I didn’t have a problem with striking Afghanistan and taking out Al Queida camps.. I would have even kept an air craft carrier near by in order to strike them again once they tried to reconstitute but to invade the Nation and occupy it for over 10 years at such substantial costs? It’s illogical. Besides I thought almost all of the terrorists were from Saudi? We all know that Saudi is where the most extreme elements of Islam is found but they are aok aren’t they?
Wile I don’t have that big of a problem with striking Afhganistan in order to pacify all of the ignorant folks in America that believe they simply attacked us for no reason.. lol It’s the occupation that I have a problem with.
Speaking of striking. Why didn’t Ronald Reagan strike Lebanon after they killed all of the Marines over their? Reagan is our hero isn’t he? Is he not Red White and Blue enough for you? No he understood that we had no business over their and he did not want to further aggravate the situation. Reagan was a smart man.

It is not only our political leaders that have lost their way, it is many of the American people as well. The nation is divided as never before, and a nation divided cannot stand. Even during the civil war, those on both sides shared a strong belief in God, and of family, but no more. We have lost that which allowed us to become the greatest nation on earth. We have lost our way. The Old-Testament is filled with stories of those that turned their back upon God. This is not the ramblings of a religious zealot, but rather a biblical historian that believes as King Solomon, that there is nothing new under the sun. In other words, history repeats itself. It is against Russia’s best interest to allow a missile defense system that close to their border. Russia has to be asking itself, “what would stop America from attacking us after they attack Iran?” Would we be okay with Russia putting a defense system in Central America just in case they were attacked from Nicaragua? The Russians could have total control over the system and we wouldn’t have to worry what-so-ever that they might attack.

All of the former “East Bloc” countries certainly have a bone to pick with their former overseers, the Russians. Funny how all of THEM want to join NATO. As for acting like and Imperialistic country, acting like and BEING are two different things altogether. We are described by others, often our critics, as imperialists, for spreading our wealth and capitalist ideology around the world, yet those same critics are the first to beg for and benefit from our financial assistance. We are the first to respond, with the most, whenever there is a major disaster, anywhere in the world and have never sent a foreign government a bill for our services. Yet in our times of need you will seldom if ever see a foreign nation lend a hand. Sure there were foreign SAR folks at 9-11, but you can count the events on one hand. Yeah dude, we have been all over the world subjugating people, stealing their natural resources, enslaving their citizens, occupying their countries for a hundred years, destroying whole cultures, conscripting their men into our military, just laying waste. No one is EVER going to over-run us unless we intentionally run ourselves economically into the ground and then can no longer truly defend ourselves. Which is what we are doing right now by stationing ourselves everywhere across the globe.
Let’s just say Russia is a bully. Do we need to go all the way over to HIS yard and scream in HIS face in order to prove we are strong and powerful? No. We quietly wait for him to make a mistake, and then smack the crap out of him. Swiftly. He won’t even know what happened until after his cities stop glowing.
Every other country would learn from Russia’s mistake. We’d only have to do it once. (More)

That is an effin, neolib, Paulist lie. Say it again and again, until people start believing it. Brainwash the sheeple. Go ask the South Koreans if they don’t want us to defend them. Do you want another “killing fields” replay in countries like South Korea? Oh, that’s right. You don’t give a d@mn… until it’s at your doorstep, lamebrain Kool-Aid drinker.

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 1:03pmAre you kidding Kryptonite, South Korea has twice the population of North Korea, they are more advanced and better trained in every way. They would easily overtake North Korea in a heartbeat, and North Korea would have very little to say about it. That being said the only reason that North Korea is in power still today is because of American presence in South Korea. Well why is that do you ask? Let me tell you. China backs North Korea, not because North Korea has anything to offer, they back North Korea, because we back South Korea. China doesn’t like us having military bases that close to their border. Would we be okay with Chinese military bases that housed over 22,000 Chinese troops in Mexico? Of course not. If we told China we were pulling our bases out of South Korea, and in exchange would they agree to stop supporting South Korea, or even just depose Kim Jong Ill they would in a heartbeat just to get us out of that region.

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 1:21pmIf you all think that preemptive war is such a great idea then let’s jump all in. Let’s attack everyone we see as a threat in any way to the United States. That’s essentially what you are advocating.
Our foreign policy is seriously flawed. Dr. Paul is NOT an isolationist. There are countries who’s citizens want us there protecting them, and countries that don’t want us there. We need to reassess those alliances. 900+ bases in 130+ countries worldwide is asinine. All that’s doing is making America flat broke.

——–
More advanced and better trained thanks to us. North Korea is a puppet state and you admit that, so any war in the region would involve China. To think that China would pull out of North Korea if we pulled out of South Korea is beyond naive. You don’t understand communism, do you? China invaded Tibet and wiped it of its national identity. They divided Korea, but were able to conquer only the north, and you can bet your bippy they want a reunited communist Korea, just like they gained in Vietnam.

1. Funny you guys resort to the same tactics as the libs, when a good point is made, and it is hard to come up with a
meaningful response…….call names….
2. I’m sure there are some countries that want us there, but just like our domestic welfare system (which i’m sure you hate,
and I would have to agree with you there) they have become dependant on us, and we are falling apart financiallay because of it.
Also like welfare, when the one is taking the handout, they are then under the thumb of the country handing it out. Ask any person
Report Post »dependant on welfare if they would like to get rid of it…NOPE. And itreally has to be a pain for Isreal to be under our thumb,
and have to come to us and ask if it is okay to protect themselves. That does more harm than good, for them.

OK, I apologize for the “effin.” The rest is a fair description of who you are and what you are doing. And I didn’t just “call names.” I proved you wrong. Israel wants us to have their back. It’s not submission or subjugation a la Islam. We are buddies, so to speak, but Paulists want to distort the nature of our friendship.

How is it you speak about God and portray yourself as a holy roller then come cursing and insulting at those who disagree with you? That’s not of God…
“You Paulists are helping libs portray America as a dictatorial empire that is out to invade and control other nations with a clenched fist. Sorry, but that p- me off.”
So you are saying Progressives don’t want to control the world as Glenn Beck has shown and do so by financial and military means?
As for Israel let’s here there own words, not yours. Dore Gold fmr Israeli ambassador to UN
GOLD: That is precisely the point. Israel never asked the United States to risk the lives of American troops to defend it. We don’t want to be West Germany in the Cold War. We don’t want to be South Korea with American troops deployed along the demilitarized zone. There are people today who are suggesting that Israel should get out of that great strategic buffer that protects it – the Jordan Valley – and put NATO forces there, put the 82nd Airborne there. And we are complemented by the thought, but we don’t want that to happen. We don’t want American troops or any other troops defending Israel. We want to fulfill the doctrine of the founder of Israel, David Ben-Gurion, of self-reliance – that Israel defends itself BY ITSELF. And what we ask for from the United States is diplomatic support so we can maintain that position.

We “Paulists” don’t believe that we should be policing the world…and maybe we do have an optimistic view that we should be leveraging diplomacy to a greater extent. Unfortunately, you neo-cons are just like the bullies in the school yard who demand that everyone obey your will or get beat up. You will never get everyone to obey your will, just as the school yard bully couldn’t. What you are advocating is that we beat up the biggest kid in the school yard because he looked at us the wrong way and we assume that he is a bully.
Another perspective on this is when the Homeland Security put those of us that are former military, gun owning, states rights advocates on an elevated watch list. Are we a threat? We speak out against the liberties the federal government has taken, should the federal government preemptively jail us? Maybe we should be sent to internment camps like the Japanese were during WWII? Maybe we should just be assassinated by executive order because we disagree with the direction this and previous administrations have taken us. All because we “might” do something harmful in the future?
Our Founding Fathers clearly told us that getting embroiled in foreign affairs would do significant harm to this country. They were correct.
Welcome to 1984 and Minority Report all rolled into one. Pathetic.

Au contraire. Russia was responding to Kennedy’s weakness, as evidenced in the failed Bay of Pigs invasion, followed by his non-response to the building of the Berlin Wall. The stupid lib was forced to grow a pair by impending doom — just like Clinton and Obama with Saddam and Ahmednutjob, respectively (well, Hussein is still a Muslim wuss-puss).
=> “…Khrushchev finally agreed to withdraw the missiles, bombers, and nuclear weapons after being convinced that the U.S. was preparing to launch a massive bombing and invasion of Cuba… [S]uch U.S. military operations were within 48-72 hours of being launched when Khrushchev publicly said the missiles would be withdrawn. There was a last minute understanding that Jupiter missiles would probably be withdrawn LATER from Turkey if Soviet missiles were first withdrawn from Cuba. But imminent U.S. military action was what convinced Khrushchev that missiles had to be withdrawn.” [emphasis added] “Mind-Sets and Missiles: A First Hand Account of the Cuban Missile Crisis” http://www.strategicstudiesinstitute.army.mil/pubs/people.cfm?authorID=734
