State-‘Controlled’ Russian Company Set to Take Over Wyoming Uranium Mines

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has approved the license transfer of two Wyoming mines to a Russian company, despite concerns over national security raised by local and national government officials including senior House Republicans.

From the Telegram:

Two uranium mines in Wyoming are on their way to control by a Russian company now that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has approved transferring the mines’ licenses.

The NRC last week approved the license transfer to a Russian company known as ARMZ which expects to obtain a controlling interest in Canadian-owned Uranium One by year’s end. Uranium One holds the licenses for a proposed uranium mine and an existing uranium mine in northeast Wyoming.

The approval comes despite concerns from local and national lawmakers. Bother groups worry that Wyoming’s uranium could in theory go overseas and serve against U.S. interests.

“The administration must maintain rigorous oversight of this project and ensure this transaction does not undercut America’s national or energy security,” Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., said through a spokeswoman Tuesday.

In October, four U.S. House members sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner to block the sale of the two Wyoming mines, citing national security concerns. According to the Wyoming Business Journal, “the sale would give the Russians control of up to 20 percent of the U.S. national uranium extraction capability along with a controlling interest in one of the nation’s largest uranium mining sites.”

The Republican representatives who sent the letter inclue: Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen of Florida (the ranking minority member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee); Rep. Spencer Bachus of Alabama (the ranking minority member of the House Financial Services Committee); Rep. Peter T. King of New York (the ranking minority member of the House Homeland Security Committee), and Rep. Howard P. “Buck” McKeon of California (the ranking minority member of the House Armed Services Committee).

Both Republicans Sen. Mike Enzi and Rep. Cynthia Lummis, from Wyoming, expressed concerns and promised to keep an eye on the deal, the Associated Press reports. In response, the NRC said the Russian company would have to apply for a special license to export uranium.

Still, exporting is possible, and considering the ownership make up of Uranium One and ARMZ, any national secuirity concerns are not unfounded. According to World Nuclear News, Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom received “356 million common shares in Uranium One” in a recent deal. And the Gillette News Record reports ARMZ is “controlled by” Rosatom.

Why should that cause concern? According to the Record, Rosatom “has provided Iran with uranium in the past.”

“The NRC paperwork states that the transfer means the Russian president and the government of the Russian Federation have the power to direct corporate policy and therefore direct activities under the NRC license and license applications for the Wyoming facilities,” the Record says.

These ties make a recent warning from Russian President Vladamir Putin even more ominous. Speaking with Larry King on Wednesday, the Russian leader advised the U.S. “don’t interfere either [with] the sovereign choice of the Russian people”:

“When we are talking with our American friends and tell them, there are systemic problems in this regard, we can hear from them ‘Don’t interfere with our affairs. This is our tradition and it’s going to continue like that.’ We are not interfering,” he said. “But to our colleagues, I would also like to advise you, don’t interfere either [with] the sovereign choice of the Russian people.” [Emphasis added]

WTH? Why do the Russkies need more U? Doesn’t Dear Leader want to disarm us? Oh, that’s right…. he wants to disarm only the USA! Isn’t there ANYONE in DC that can see beyond their own greedy desires?Tim G. has no concept of reality.

This group of thieves and miscreants living the good life in DC will do everything possible to turn us into a banana republic; from selling our strategic resources to those who do not have our best interests in mind to stopping oil & nat. gas exploration off FL.

It’s almost as if this whole administration is simply one of those high school events where the students play at government.

Why have to export at all? Would it not be easier to just have the “device” built here? I believe in the legalists call it a Red Herring. A magician would call it a “diversion.” Briar Rabbit? Oh well, You let me buy a uranium mine and we cannot export? What shall we do with the urnamium now? Oh my do not throw me in the Briar patch…he he he. If you think this is a problem research the Computer Softare Company that provides the “high” function “management” abilites to manage Networks and Clouds of our Servers and Networks. Hmmm. Guess where the softare is produced and serviced? And… they have just made an offer to purchase the largest hosting company in the U.S. Or maybe already have..hmmmm. Where is your site hosted? And who has the key to you back door? Here is a hint… it could be a Parallels Universe… If this software controlled 99% of our computers this means all Electrial. Do you office phone work without power? How about State buildings and other government buildings. hmmm What about a software malfunction for your cell phone…for all you smarties out there? hmm And now… What? Who has control of our communications? Bring back the land lines… join a ham radio club…fight for freedoms… and free antenna tv…. hmmm Why is it going away… cannot then send a broad cast can we…?

If the US and Russia are supposed to be into arm’s reductions and that is what the latest START treaty is all about, then why the h*ll do the Russians need a Uranium mine lease?!?!?!

They have over 15,000 decommissioned nuclear weapons, as do we. So its not like nuclear materials should be in short supply over there, nor given the fact that they, as we, built over 20,000 nuclear devices that they should have a hard time mining for it in Russia…

This is another inept, junior decision by an Admin with no experience and a continued display that it does not know what it is doing or how to handle even the simple things like oh, NATIONAL SECURITY!

I’m curious what the trigger will be that sets the American people into action. By action I mean a coup. Firing squad for nancy, harry, jones and the likes, if you know what I mean. My father killed commies on the battle field. He would freak out if he saw the commies in our gov. What structure is in place for us? Who will lead us? If GB is correct (and he is) History will repeat, That means war on the home land. What if GB said “OK folks it’s time to fight” wonder what would happen? Someone needs to take a few of the enemies out. That might get the attention of the gov.
I’m just on a rant, I’m so pissed.

Why do you think the FCC is taking over the internet? We do not know each other on this site. How could we organize if we can not get in touch with other? The way I see it, most people in this country are still asleep, too busy watching Dancing with the Idol Talented NFL. Look at the end of the Roman empire. The gov’t. gave the people sports to distract their attention from what is really going on. Same thing here. How many people do you know who really worry on a daily basis about anything outside of their own lives? How many people are able to take various sources of information, and look into the future?
I have been talking to some of my neighboors, and some of them have started to get ready, if for nothing else, small disruptions like power outages.
I pray that America can hit the brakes before we go over the cliff, but i fear that we are headed back to the 1800′s. How many of us can build a log cabin, or grow enough food to support our families? Can you hunt? Or fish? Most of our society has no idea what it would take to live like the pioneers, no the will to do so.
OK, sorry for that, been a really long, bad year for me. Keep the faith, and God bless.

And it begins, today the Russians, tomorrow, who knows? Somebody pinch me, am I awake, or is this just some scary nightmare? We have sold and transferred control of two, not one, but two uranium mines in Wyoming to Russia. I’m thinking why not transfer ownership of all our nuclear facilities to Iran, that way we can just cut out the middle-man. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission couldn’t regulate a septic system, let alone America’s nuclear resources. It’s good to know though, they’ll be keeping a close eye on this operation, right!!!

Congress is slowly being made irrelevant. Just recently, Congress would not pass “net neutrality” so Obama is going to circumvent Congress once again, and mandate it.

Oh, BTW, for those who are unaware, net neutrality is “suggesting” (nudge) web sites who have Conservative views MUST offer an equal amount of, and links to, Liberal web sites to show opposing views. If the “suggestion” does not work, then they will be FORCED to do so by the government.

So guess what will be the outcome? Government will start shutting down sites that don’t comply, and those sites will turn out to be ANY site that does not promote government propaganda.

      This site will be toast.

Will the federal government provide the same level of oversight that they provide of our borders?

Maybe like their oversight of drilling regulations in the Gulf: or their oversight of containment and recovery regulations in the Gulf?

Will we get the same level of oversight that we got of the financial market or the banking market that gave us the exploding real estate bubble?

Can we expect the oversight we get for voter intimidation at the polls; or the oversight we get on voter registration?

Maybe we can get the oversight that the federal government provides for food processing; or for education; or for healthcare.

It makes such wonderful sense to cede control over our Uranium to the Soviets: almost as much as our funding of Islamic terrorists through Saudi Arabia or through Karzai; or ceding control of our ports to Arabs.

Is idiocy a requirement for federal employment, or is it a training process?

      @the blazers

Here is something else to watch out for with other enemies of the state…

Watch for activity of Soros on these banks – Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and JP Morgan Chase. At least two of these seem to be vulnerable to the style of attack made by Soros. Another suggestion is to cross check with each bank if they hold stock in gold companies, or have small reserves of gold itself they would have to rapidly sell off if a collapse or sudden losses were scored against them.

Look for the sources of weakness from within the bank, and the pressure from the outside Soros uses to collapse things his direction.

From what google and yahoo searching I can see (under – most vulnerable banks; Soros and bank of america, and along those lines) Bank of America is the most likely to be the first to fall.

In the case with the President now cutting off drilling in the east coast oil fields; think on this as well, wikileaks mentioned going out with info on a major pharmacutical company – petrolium byproducts are one of the common elements, used in certain medication manufacturing.

Seek one or more large ones that have a link to such as BP, or other large oil exploration and development companies…there will be the next set of targets for Soros after the banks.

No, they want to drastiocally increase taxes that will be an even further jobs killer. Yes, the commies and socialist see their chance to destroy the Republic and with a sympathiser in the WH they are making great inroads. One must also give credit to Pelosi and Reid, the closet Socialists, in their attempts to destroy our country. So are you people going to do nothing. Just keep chasing meaningless stuff that adds nothing to the quality of life? What is it going to take to wake up Americans when 70% are to lazy to even vote.

Why are foreign companies given regulation waivers when American companies are not? It makes it impossible for American companies to do business or compete. It drives American companies out of business or out of the country. Politicians know it. Maybe we have 535 closet Socialists running our Gov’t. A bad apple in the barrel will eventually taint them all.

“What’s next, selling all our oil fields to the Saudi’s?”

No, silly. Keep up with the news. We’re selling THAT to the Chinese (who are using OUR money) in the form of up to 30% of Chesapeake Energy who controls much of the southwest oil fields, and is a huge holder of natural gas leases. But we’re not alone. They’ve bought up oil rights/companies in Central Africa, Canadian oil sand leases, a contract with one Brazilian company for 10,000 barrels a day of oil, and bought into another for billions of barrels of reserves. The U.S. has given billions of dollars to Brazil and Mexico to drill in the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico, while curtailing our own drilling… and thus jobs… so the oil can go to the Chinese.

But I digress. 20% of our uranium to the Russians? Of course. What else can we do to keep up our international balance of trade when we’ve lost almost all of our manufacturing base? We sell financial paper (that didn’t work out so well), or sell off our resources. After that, there isn’t much left, since much of our prime real-estate is already either owned or controlled by foreign interests. We’re in hock for trillions to the Chinese, who, in the case when we have no economy left to repay them might look to take federal lands in exchange… ANWR (with huge oil reserves) for instance? How about the recent claiming of 187,000 square miles of Alaska for a “polar bear refuge” by the administration? Land which would seem to have vast resources of oil and/or natural gas beneath it.

It appears to all be a part of the “redistribution” of what‘s left of America’s wealth to the rest of the world. Is it time to worry? Nah… that time passed years ago. It seems like we’ve already built the slide, greased it down, and pushed off. With that, and short of a monumental effort by a leadership that is more inclined to give us a push rather than pull us back, there’s not much more to do but learn to enjoy the ride down.

The Russians occupying US soil . . . it’s simply not right. And it is quite simple: The level of appropriateness that would make this right does not exist within our relationship with Russia; not at this time. We can work towards that happening, and perhaps we should. But related, in regard to national security, we should be drilling our own oil, utilizing our own resources; yet we’re not doing that?

There’s great contradiction here. Therefore, there’s liberalism (corruption) involved in some way, in some shape or form, but very dangerously so . . .

The seriousness of what liberals are doing in this phase of their war against freedom loving America needs to be recognized as a true threat. They don’t want us to secure our borders; they don’t want us to drill for oil while they allow other countries to drill in our backyard; they don’t want to repair the economy despite their knowing they must feign efforts and concerns as if they do; they want to destroy capitalism except where their control and manipulation of it is profitably parasitic; they want to make friends with enemies that are sworn to destroy us all; these are all simple contradictions and simply, they will stop at nothing to narcissistically get their way in all that they want because they know that we, and the constitution that empowers us, is the only primary force that will rise up against them. Nowhere else in the world will they find opposition like they find it here.

Ask, why should we allow a sworn enemy of capitalism, of America, to occupy our land, to profit from our resources? Has our relationship with Russia improved that much? It hasn’t.

Modern liberalism then, it must only be viewed from the perspective that it is anti-American and pro-everything that is anti-America. It’s no more complicated than that after you remove the lies and the deceit, the facework and the facades of a presidency, a congress and a social movement that has been orchestrated behind a show of benevolence . . . but has proven only destructive in its ends.

And then, they say that we are lying because we see what we see and tell what we know as if it us that are creating a world of deceptions . . . We are truly battling evil which ironically is the engine of Soviet Communism spoken by one Ronald Reagan in almost those exact words: “The Soviet Union is an evil empire, and Soviet communism is the focus of evil in the modern world.”

The so called “Cold War” may have ended from our perspective; but what about Russia’s perspective? What do we know about that? We don’t even know about our own president . . .

Still, exporting is possible, and considering the ownership make up of Uranium One and ARMZ, any national secuirity concerns are not unfounded. [NOT UNFOUNDED!!!!!! are you kidding me??? ] According to World Nuclear News, Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom received “356 million common shares in Uranium One” in a recent deal. And the Gillette News Record reports ARMZ is “controlled by” Rosatom. [see info below from Wikipedia]

Rosatom Nuclear Energy State Corporation (Rosatom) (Russian: Росатом), is a State Corporation in Russia, the regulatory body of the Russian nuclear complex. It is headquartered in Moscow.

      Activities:
Rosatom controls nuclear power holding Atomenergoprom, nuclear weapons companies, research institutes and nuclear and radiation safety agencies. It also represents Russia in the world in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy and protection of the nonproliferation regime.[1]

DID YOU CATCH THE PART ABOUT “NUCLEAR WEAPONS COMPANIES” FOLKS…!!! AGAIN I SAY “WTF…!!!”

OBAMA WILL CONTINUE TO DISMANTAL THE USA UNTIL US MARINES SMASH HIS DOOR DOWN WITH RIFLE BUTTS AND TAKE HIM INTO CUSTODY.

Obama, his family and his Czars must be captured all on the same day at the identical hour so none can escape. The US Government has been subverted by what may be foreign governments and over 1000s of US Citizens some in Congress. This is the largest act of high treason in the history of the earth.
