As Chicago (and most of the nation) baked in the oppressive heat wave of last week, a small group of local 912 Project members were busy gathering supplies to send overseas to the troops serving in Afghanistan. The “Summer Supplies for Soldiers” program was the brainchild of the Southtown 912 Project organizer Lucie Wier and her daughter.

After putting out the word to friends, neighbors and a few local businesses, the Weirs and their 912 Project volunteers were inundated with donations of sunscreen, lip balm, beef jerky, playing cards and other basic items often requested by the men and women serving in Afghanistan.
At the end of the weekend’s collection and packing festival, more than $15,000 in supplies were gathered and packed into boxes to be shipped overseas. At least 253 soldiers will be receiving special packages from home. Thanks to the Women’s Auxiliary at theVFW (Local Post #5079), all of the postage needed to ship the packages has been paid.
We salute the tireless efforts of the American troops every single day, but we also recognize the work being done by great organizations like the 912 Project.
The local ABC affiliate covered the story.

Posted on July 26, 2011 at 4:43pmObama and his administration’s warnings of domestic terrorism by white men with a military background is a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you stick a trained tiger in a cage, call it names, attack it’s livelihood and poke it with sticks, is it going to get pissed off. Obama and his administration are purposefully aggravating a specific class of people to create a perceived enemy. They are being agitators for their specific cause.

Posted on July 26, 2011 at 4:07pmThank you Chicago 912! You are good people! The rest of us need to follow your example and also show our troops the love and support they deserve. If we all put forth just a little effort, the troops will benefit. Well done, Chicago !!

Posted on July 26, 2011 at 3:19pmThis is depressing. That evil Glenn Beck started this whole thing. He is truly a right wing nut. Imagine the nerve of anyone who would suggest we honor our troops. What’s this country coming to ?????
Report Post »Everyone should know Chicago is the base of operation for “Community Organizers.” Oh, and that “no longer existing ” organization known as ACORN as well. The number one employer in the US, behind WAL Mart. Afterl all, we must give our Great Leader credit for creating jobs, for felons, crack heads, union thugs, etc. Who else would hiire them ? I‘m surprised Obama doesn’t use them for “straw” gun buyers , all as a purpose to prove current gun laws are inadquate, so as to further restrict gun ownership. On second thought maybe he does.
