Sandra Fluke Dismisses Limbaugh‘s Apology on ’The View’

Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke
Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke found yet another platform to appeal to American women this morning when she appeared on ABC’s “The View.” Based on her statements, though, she isn’t ready to settle the score with radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh anytime soon.
The chaos surrounding Limbaugh’s comments about Fluke has been relentless since the radio host first called her a “slut” and a “prostitute” last week. Despite critics dismissing his apology, Rush maintained earlier today on his show that his “I’m sorries” were sincere after claiming that he had mistakenly stooped to the left’s level.

Fluke, though, wasn‘t swayed by Limbaugh’s words, as she maintained that his admission changes nothing and that Americans have to decide whether to support companies that continue to advertise on his program.
The young woman told ABC’s “The View” that she hasn’t heard from Limbaugh since he issued a written apology late Saturday, though she isn’t interested in receiving a call from him.
“I was at first shocked and stunned,” she told host Barbara Walters when asked what she thought after hearing Limbaugh’s comments. “Let me be clear that I think his statements that he made on the air about me have been personal enough, so I’d rather not have a personal phone call from him.”
Fluke went on to question the apology statement, mentioning that Limbaugh issued it at a time during which advertisers were putting a great deal of pressure on him. In the end, she said that it doesn’t change anything.

She went on to say that there’s “a segment of our political commentators who think that it‘s acceptable in today’s society to say these things about women.”

He is a commentator just like Bill Maher is and Maher made a similiar remark about Hasselbeck and would not apologize for it. She made it sound like ALL the women at Georgetown were out soliciting their bodies and needed all the help they could get. We all know PP gives birth control, but the Mz. She is the one who led everyone to believe they were all what Rush said and I believed it too from what I heard her saying. I would have been embarrassed to be a female student at that college because of what she eluded to, making them sound worse than they probably are.

Although Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke testified to the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee last month that contraception can cost a law student $3,000 over three years and that some of her fellow students could not afford it, a Target store only 3 miles from the law school currently sells a month’s supply of birth control pills for only $9 to people who do not have insurance plans covering contraceptives.
That would make the total cost for birth control pills for a student who decided to use them for all three years of law school just $324.

There are things a agree and disagree with both of you on. While I know that Rush‘s apology wasn’t going to work I’m glad that he showed the world that he can be better than others. It is also a Christian principle to forgive your offender, this is never shown by the left Ms. Fluke is case in point on this. I understand that Ms. Fluke is not Christian and I’m not sure about Rush, however these are the precepts we were taught before the 60′s. A few of us are still taught it today, but many are not. To be honest one of the main reasons for making an account is because of guys like you who carry out an entire debate on the comments. That is unless like as the par is getting that people just scream and call others names. So good job on keeping it relatively civil.

After all, what possibly can I, as a male, have contributed to this country, the common good, or anything meaningful compared to the right for all women (girls or tweens) to ubiquitous contraception absolutely free. My cousins does not wait for a phone call from MLO or the nutritionist-in-chief telling them how proud they should be that their son lost an eye and partial brain function in Afghanistan. What is his and their small burden compared to this courageous woman’s right to free contraception in order to engage in recreational sex as she sees fit. What a marvelous place our country has become.

Hormonal birth control also acts as a way to stop cysts. 14% of women on the pill use it for non-pregnancy issues; 42% say non-pregnancy issues are one of their main reasons for using it. You seem to be making the same strawman as Craig Bannister: equating “contraceptives” to “only condoms.”

Ok, let me try this it with your rules. Yes, healthcare clinics can provide most basic contraceptives for free. In the same way that you can receive most basic healthcare from clinics for free, I find this neither a compelling nor sound argument against covering contraceptives in insurance policies. Clinics are not universal, their services vary in quality and availability, and it effectively doubles the effort as insurance is now mandatory (ie, you’d need to pay, and still jump through hoops).
In summary, having services exist in some locations is not a sufficient reason to deny their coverage in insurance, whether we’re talking about contraceptives or healthcare (as Avengerk refuses to answer for).
