Sandusky Juror Speaks Out: Ex-Coach‘s Reaction During Verdict Was ’Confirmation’ Jury Made Right Call

A juror said Jerry Sandusky showed no emotion as the guilty verdict was read, confirming for him and his fellow jurors that they had made the right call in convicting the former Penn State assistant football coach on 45 out of 48 counts of child sexual abuse.
“That was just confirmation,” Harper told NBC’s “Today” on Saturday. “I looked at him during the reading of the verdict and just the look on his face, no real emotion. Just kind of accepting, you know, because, it was true.”
Harper said the jury worked through the charges systematically, combing over any inconsistencies in witness testimony and reconciling them. Ultimately, Harper said, there was a corroborating story among all of the victims and jurors “were on the same page.”
Harper said he and his fellow jurors did not learn that Sandusky’s adopted son had come forward accusing his father of abusing him as well until after they made their decision.
“We heard about it the same time, we had suspected that but we had no evidence of it,” Harper said. “It just solidified our decision.”

Sandusky‘s lawyers said Saturday that they tried to quit at the start of jury selection because they weren’t given enough time to prepare, raising an argument on the trial’s speed that could become the thrust of an appeal.
His lawyers disclosed that they felt too unprepared to adequately defend him because of how quickly the case was brought to trial, and experts have said the seven months between Sandusky’s November arrest and trial was fast-paced by Pennsylvania standards, the Associated Press reports.
Sandusky’s sentencing should be in about three months; an exact date hasn’t been set. Because of the severity of the charges and mandatory minimum sentences he faces an effective life sentence.
Until his next court date, Sandusky is one of 272 inmates at the Centre County Correctional Facility, seven miles from the Penn State campus. He was kept under watch overnight and is allowed access to some personal items including a prayer book, and can get visits from family, friends and attorneys.

Yes, I blame Paterno and others for not following up. If I witness a person raping a child and I inform the police, and still years later I’m still seeing the same rapist around, I would call the police again and ask why the guy was still around. Did they lose the paperwork? Did they forget to arrest him? Yes, I’m speaking ill of the dead Paterno.

Joe Paterno hears report, takes to the PRESIDENT of the university. President then calls campus security. There Joe Paterno did his role as the coach and the UNION way they handle things on CAMPUS. While I agree Joe should have done a bit more, he did what the COLLEGE GUIDEBOOK told him to do.
As for why Jerry was even allowed at the school after retirement, well talk to the president on it. Joe Paterno had no rights to offer him an office and access to anything at PSU. You can cry and complain Joe was responsible, but in the end Mike McCreary is the one who should have went to the police. He was the witness, he was responsible. I am sorry all you people want to blame Joe Paterno because he beat your school for a title of some sort or you just misunderstand PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. Sorry it is so hard to grasp for you that it was certainly not JoePa out in the shower and it certainly wasn’t him at the Sandusky home. Guilt from accusations launched against someone is not guilt at all. Rather misconceptions in idiots minds who do not know the story at all.
If Joe Paterno is guilty of aiding a molestor. Then PSU is guilty of murder for killing JoePA.

Paterno had enough power and presence at Penn State that he could have gone directly to the President of the University and warned that he was going to the police, not make a stupid worthless campus police report over a CHILD RAPE allegation. He should have gotten any staff or assistant coaches together and helped authorities make a case and not have allowed a pedophile to be employed by Penn State. I‘m sure it weighed on Paterno’s conscience.It was like they all looked the other way as long as the program was successful and these kids were knowingly being fed to a monster through a private foundation. But no, UNIONS got involved, ACADEMIA took care of the football program first, and now the “please don’t talk to the media any further” hush money will be paid out to each victim. Anyone even remember a prosecutor disappeared and whereabouts are still unknown who investigated the earlier report in 1998? Just think of all who knew or suspected. I hope Penn state feels the pinch financially. And I hope enrollment drops. Who the hell can afford the loan debt anyway?

Paterno was told by Mike McQueary about a disturbing incident he witnessed (although McQueary said he never shared the details and his own story had changed several times). Paterno reported what he heard from McQueary to the campus security who ARE police officers. Paterno had no evidence and so they had to get the info from the source: McQueary. Paterno’s information was hearsay, Paterno had no evidence of his own. He then did ask the campus police within the next few months later about the results of the investigation and they said there was nothing. Even so he asked that Ssandusky be banned from PSU campuses and was told he couldn’t do that because he was only the football coach but he did ban Sandusky from all football/athletic facilities after that. What else was he to do? If someone said they saw you doing something criminal and the police investigate and don’t arrest you do you want the person or community still comming after you? Sure I believe Sandusky is a sick, evil man and deserves much worse than life in prison but it was Mike McQueary & the campus police & possibly the administration was who failed the victims, coach Paterno, and the entire Penn State community and alumni!!!! Yes, Paterno said he wished he‘d done more but wouldn’t you say the same thing once you heard all the details? Paterno was a role model for generations and has molded hundreds of great men
