Sandusky to NYT: Joe Paterno Never Confronted Me About Suspected Abuse

NEW YORK (AP) — Former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky said Joe Paterno never spoke to him about any suspected misconduct with minors, the New York Times reported Saturday.
Sandusky has been charged with 40 counts of molesting eight boys over 15 years and is free on bail while awaiting a preliminary hearing on Dec. 13.

Penn State’s board of trustees fired Paterno on Nov. 9 because it felt the football coach didn’t go far enough in alerting authorities after an assistant coach said he told Paterno he saw Sandusky assaulting a young boy in the football building showers in March 2002.
During a lengthy interview at his lawyer’s home, Sandusky told the newspaper he and Paterno never spoke about the alleged 2002 incident or a 1998 child molestation complaint investigated by the Penn State campus police.
“I never talked to him about either one,” Sandusky said. “That’s all I can say. I mean, I don’t know.” He worked for Paterno for nearly 30 years.
Sandusky said he never sexually abused any child and that prosecutors have misunderstood his work with children.
“They’ve taken everything that I ever did for any young person and twisted it to say that my motives were sexual or whatever,” Sandusky told the Times. “I had kid after kid after kid who might say I was a father figure. And they just twisted that all.”
He is accused of mining the ranks of his Second Mile charity to find underprivileged boys to abuse. Sandusky also said that the charity never restricted his access to children until he became the subject of a criminal investigation in 2008.
He said he regularly gave money to the disadvantaged boys at his charity, opened bank accounts for them and gave them gifts that had been donated to the charity.
“I tried to reward them sometimes with a little money in hand, just so that they could see something,” he said. “But more often than not, I tried to set up, maybe get them to save the money, and I put it directly into a savings account established for them.”
“I never bought a computer for any kid; I had a computer given to me to give to a kid. I never bought golf clubs. People gave things because they knew there would be kids. They wanted to get rid of things.”
Asked about his physical interaction with children who were not his own, Sandusky said that aspect of the relationships “just happened that way.”
“I think a lot of the kids really reached out” for wrestling and hugging, he said.
The paper said he grew most animated when talking about his relationships with children and most disconsolate when he spoke of Paterno and Penn State, and the upheaval caused by his indictment.
“I don’t think it was fair,” he is quoted as saying.
During the interview, Sandusky said his relationships and activities with Second Mile children did cause some strain with Paterno. He told the paper he worried that having some children with him at hotels before games or on the sideline during games, could have been regarded as a distraction by Paterno.
“I would have dreams of we being in a squad meeting and that door fly open and kids come running through chasing one another, and what was I going to do?” he said. “Because, I mean, Joe was serious about football.”

Pedophiles are exclusively attracted to children not adults of any sex. This man is a predator, preying on children who cannot protect themselves. The adults did not protect the children because they were too busy protecting the institution and the team. How sick is that?

I work with kids 6-12 grade…he is correct, there is physical play between a man and a boy that is God given and good, and that many that have no fathers in the house hold are missing, and there are alot of kids out there like that. We are certainly not talking about sexual intent.

If the situation wasn’t so serious or so sad, this pig’s efforts at childish spin would be laughable. But the crimes he committed against these boys and men are representative of the lowest form of humanity.
There are no pedophile homosexuals. There are only homosexuals. The ones most desperate for sexual perversions turn to young boys, because they can be fooled and flim flammed, manipulated, and controlled easier than older males. Homosexuals who concentrate on young boys do so, because they can’t sate their perversions with those older. They just can’t be manipulated as easily, nor terrified into submission as easily.
Homosexuals who engage mostly with other than the very young have less lust to satisfy so they don’t feel compelled to prey on the youthful and inexperienced to satisfy their evil perversions that destroy the lives of young boys. This Sandusky pig has an abject perversion so intense it bends him constantly toward seeking out and seducing males to try to help abate this evil intensity. It is not their age that compels him to pursue them. It is their vulnerability.
I‘m surprised he hasn’t been caught with another since he’s been out on bail, because usually an ou-of-control pervert can only go a short while before becoming short-circuited when in a state perverted celebecy.
But maybe he hasn’t had time yet or has been extra careful.

He knows what to say and how to be deceptive in order to protect himself. And let’s face it… unless someone has a photo, video, email/text messages, etc. to prove that he did ACTUALLY do what he’s being accused of, it’s going to be his word against theirs. Without any tangible evidence, he’s got a pretty good chance of walking away from this whole thing. If he has a good lawyer, the chances of him getting any punishment is questionable at this point. Personally, I hope he gets the worst sentence that someone who rapes little boys can get, because that’s what he deserves. However, without any real evidence, not sure how that’s going to happen.

One good and wise priest who ran a Catholic recovery home for alcoholics in NM called them devils. Archbishop Martin of Ireland said of the many he’s interviewed, only 2 showed any signs of remorse, or responsibility for the pain and irreparable harm they had done to these children. They were unable to repent, it seems.

I won’t judge until the court hearings proceed, and there is great reason for this. I was just recently at a Steeler Game with my best friend. We were cheering the game along as it was against Baltimore and the we were gong ahead in the score. Our section got quite animated and we were giving high fives to surrounding people. There was a family behind us, a Father, Mother, and two boys. I am guessing about 9-11 in age or so. I will tell you, this young boy made me extremely uncomfortable, to the point I got angry. When giving hive fives to the parents, the boys were putting their hands up too, so I would give them high fives as well, so did my friend. The one boy that got me angry kept grabbing a hold of my hand or trying to when I was giving him a high five. I mean, it was very odd, he wouldn’t let it go, like, kept trying to hold my hand. Honestly, I think the boy was gay or something. So I tried avoiding him the next couple rounds, but he tried to initiate contact, and I just gave him an angry look. He wasn’t intimidated very much and had a very queer smile on his face. I never experienced quite such a thing with a kid before and was very bothered by his actions. I looked to his parents, kinda trying to get them to say something but they had the same weird look. The kids are the ones who know, because they feel uncomfortable. And the people who do that ARE indeed good at manipulation. My abuser had mommy problems, so as a self defense, I took on the personality of his mother to get him to leave me alone. It was weird, being one person at the sitter’s and another person at home, but luckily I got out of that situation and “normalized.”

He is not representative of the tens of thousands of men of all races who choose to coach our youth and young adults. The nearest parallel one might draw to your notion is the handful of male swim coaches who have gotten involved with teenage female swimmers over the years although many of them have avoided criminal prosecution due to most state laws concerning lewd and lascivious conduct as only applying when the female victim is under sixteen.
