Santa Beck Brings ‘America’s First Christmas’ to Wilmington, Ohio

Editor’s note: See our follow-up story on local media coverage of Beck’s visit.

Wilmington, Ohio, is a small town with a big heart. What better place, then, could Glenn Beck highlight the true meaning of Christmas? Glenn performed his radio and TV shows before live, local audiences. Here is the first segment from the 5pm program.

Later in the evening, Glenn performed a full stage show with lots of stories and Christmas spirit. Insider Extreme members were able to watch the show live in prime time.

With special guests such as Andy Williams, Janine Turner, Ted Nugent, Dr. Alveda King, Buzz Aldrin and Peter Billingsley sharing their favorite Christmas memories, and, of course, Santa himself making a cameo appearance, Glenn (in his footie pajamas) highlighted the true meaning of Christmas and encouraged Americans to “start over” — to reset our priorities and reconnect with what is really important.

Fortunately, for those of us who couldn’t make it to snowy Ohio, Beck’s Insider Extreme members stayed warm watching the inspiration program from the comfort of their own couches.

Gotta say that Traquil made me laugh out loud with his silly rhetoric and quotations from known liberal rags like Politico and all Soros all the time sites. But he isn’t work my time to argue with. He, or she, we really don’t know for sure, maybe it, must really crave attention in the most desperate way. Poor thing. Not.

Saw the afternoon show. I so admire a man who isn’t ashamed to cry when his heart is touched. I also admire a man who is willing to put his money where his mouth is and support those in need. Mr. Beck is the real deal.

Metalist just pulled a Church Lady on you tranquil. It’s pretty slimy when these Beckites parade out the snarky old tired statement “I’ll pray for you” especially when it’s part of a juvenile, cliche-ridden, schoolyard variety insult. Perverting the Christian religion in order to attack someone they cannot debate the facts with is about as low as it gets.

I firmly believe Glenn IS the real deal … but even if he isn’t, look at what he has done for the rest of us: our trust in God and the basic goodness of man is strengthened; we are taking an active interest in the history and culture of our country; and (for many of us) we are getting involved in politics for the first time.

All in all, I think Glenn Beck has done a good job of restoring the American spirit and I thank and pray for him every day.

That’s probably pretty close to the way Mike Malloy, Ed Schultz and the rest of the whack jobs on the left will characterized Beck’s appearance in Wilmington. They will take something so obviously good and somehow find a way to demonize the effort.
The thing is that they would never consider doing something like this to really help people and inspire others to do the same. They believe the only credible charity is big government.

Immediately after DHL announced the closing of its Wilmington air hub, elected officials at the city, state and federal levels began seeking help for DHL workers. The federal government awarded a $3.87 million national emergency grant to Ohio in November 2008 specifically to provide job training and other aid to DHL workers in Wilmington and the surrounding area. It was administered through the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. The area has since received a second national emergency grant worth $4.1 million.

Wilmington and Clinton County benefited handsomely from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, commonly known as the stimulus bill, that was passed in February 2009.

The tracking website for the stimulus program allows anybody, including Beck, to search by ZIP code to find the total money spent within the postal district.

Using Wilmington’s zip code – 45177, which includes the surrounding county – the site shows that the area received $7,009,811 in stimulus money through September.

The figure includes money that went to the Wilmington city schools, Clinton County Department of Jobs and Family Services and the Clinton County Community Action Group, a non-profit organization that aids the poor in in the region and provides free weatherization to residents.

The city of Wilmington received a $79,231 stimulus grant to provide programs designed to prevent and control crime; a $167,392 grant for investment in rural public transit vehicles, and about $4 million to replace roads, curbs and sidewalks, typically replaced by residents.

In addition, the Ohio Department of Development is extensively involved in the community. It has provided money to Clinton County Port Authority to help redevelop the Wilmington air park. It’s also offering Airborne Maintenance and Engineering Services, a new company operating at the air park, more than $5.2 million in state assistance to grow its business there.

Wilmington Mayor David Raizk, who cited several other sources of federal assistance flowing to the city, said he’s chasing any government help he can get.

“I’ve beat on more doors than I can count,” he says. “Not because we are looking for hand out – but we are looking for a hand up. My job is to get whatever assistance I can get for the citizens here and to help create jobs for them.”

So where does all this leave Beck’s premise that Wilmington is a place that shuns government help?

No, what I was reffering to was this:

“And here’s the latest effort by the hacks on the left: They are attacking Glenn on his visit to Wilmington, Ohio. You know, the event Glenn hosted to help boost the economy in one of America’s hardest hit towns? I’m sure the town is really upset that thousands of people have flocked there this week. Who needs all that extra business anyway, right? One blogger complained that Glenn was ‘soaking’ his audience for $500 for premium tickets! And Media Matters couldn’t contain their giddiness at the $125 a ticket cost to see the live radio program. Aw, shucks. You got him there. Those are some pretty expensive tickets. Boy that Glenn Beck is a greedy capitalist – he’s taking advantage of people down on their luck.

Only one small problem: all the money from those ticket sales goes to charity.

So, not only is Glenn attracting a crowd to a struggling town – he’s attracting a crowd that has money to burn and they want to burn it in Wilmington, Ohio.”

Say for a minute that maybe you are right! So what? Beck came up from nothing has worked for his money, and deserves every penny of the millions he is worth. What, exactly, is your beef with that? I am sure Beck does more for charity in a bad week then you will do your whole life.

Beck is worth every penny he makes simply by keeping the idiots enraged! It is almost hysterical to watch the Palin, Limbaugh, and Beck hatred. It is one thing to hate Obama, Reid, and Pelosi…They are actually doing harm to us. But why the Beck hatred? He is one man on one news channel! He has no power, no position, no authority! Yet he incites so much hatred that people actually create derogatory screen names and make it their life mission to defeat anything written about him! Much like they do Jesus Christ! Not that I would ever compare the two, Beck would probably punch me for that!

Yep…Good on Beck! I hope he can make millions more…So he can spend millions more on folks who need the help.

      God bless you Glenn Beck!

      @Beckisnuts and Tranquilrider
I honestly feel very sad there are so many small minded individuals that can not understand the goodness associated with the Wilmington project. I think it is a so telling about their true intentions that they would attempt to discredit Glenn, who is a talk show host. If “Truth” was the real objective why not address all the untruths being told in government. The lies being told from the White House and the Congress are lies that actually effect us as citizens of the United States and the consequences of those lies will have some very lasting effects for years to come. Are you only concerned with pulling down someone who has done more to unite good people to leave a town a better place than exposing lies told by those in government that will ultimately lead to the destruction of many similar towns ?
We only have so long here on earth and regardless of your religious beliefs concerning the here after , living a life that spreads good and happiness , not only for others but for yourself should be important. It really doesn‘t take to much intelligence to put someone down but extending a hand to those who are hurting exposes a person’s true heart. Your heart has been exposed many times on this blog and I will pray for you and your soul and hope neither of you ever find yourself down and out. Merry Christmas

eh, Tranquil is just a troll, and a worthless one at that as all he can come up with is this “Beck lied” garbage when what Beck said was the church charity did not take any government money. But that is beside the point, he is here on a mission …

But Beckisnutsisnuts seems like a decent guy who just has a blindspot for Beck. But I will not go to war with him over that, he is entitled to dislike Beck. I just wish he realized how bad some of his Beck posts make him look when he otherwise posts very astute and conservative comments in other places. Face it, Beck has a lot of supporters. Most of us see him for what he is; an overweight, Mormon opinion writer. We do do our own research and we agree with what Beck is finding…At least for the most part…He is not trying to lead a movement or revolution, he does not preach Mormon doctrine or speak for any denomination, he does not want to be elected into any office…In fact, other than the money, which I do not believe even matters that much to him, and a deep sense of patriotism, I think he would step down and go work in his church and maybe do some things in the community. I do not believe he or Palin have any “ulterior” motives other than wanting to see this country restored. And I am not exactly a rube or naive. I have been around and dealt with slimy people most of my life. I have excellent discernment. Again, if you dislike the man then you have that right. I just hate to see you alienate yourself here with silly comments. If you want to find fault with the man then please get something real.

Trolltrainer and the other guy (Ortho?), I have made my concerns about Beck abundantly clear in the course of sharing my opinion on The Blaze. I completely disagree with your take on Beck. He is not a harmless, mormon opinion writer at all. Far from it. Glenn has devolved into a paranoid fear monger and a fire and brimestone religious agitator who claims to talk to god and do his bidding. He has said as much several times on his program. He also talks incessently about how we are going to see monumental changes in our lives as Americans, including but not limited to seeing “the arm of god” in our lifetimes. Those kinds of fantastical utterences from someone in his position is not only ridiculously far fetched, it’s downright irresponsible. Why it doesn’t set off alarm bells with other people here is beyond me. I really don’t see much independent thought here.

Additionally, like I have said repeatedly, Glenn harps on the end of days and the return of Jesus to earth. Do you understand what he is saying between the lines there? The Mormons believe their version of Jesus will appear in Missouri somewhere. Glenn is saying that Jesus will be here soon and will set up a Mormon Theocracy. This kind of talk is irrational and superstitious. By spreading this nonsense among his listeners, many of whom are fundamentalists, he’s creating an atmosphere of fear and agitating people to change their lives in preparation for heavenly intrusion into our reality. And that doesn’t concern you? There are militias being set up across the country. GOD GOLD AND GUNS is the motto of some of them. Well, let me share something with you. Nobody has elected these vigilanties and they’re getting some dangerous ideas in their feeble minds. Ideas that originate with Glenn’s constant hammering and preaching. It is dangerously unAmerican and frankly pretty insane.

That’s just a taste of why I think Glenn is dangerous. You sound like a reasonable person. I‘m asking you to consider the things I’ve just written and weigh them against the words you hear from Glenn over the upcoming months. I think Glenn is agitating people with fantastical superstitious talk. Maybe you’ll start picking up on that as well.

ORTHO, if you want to chant to yourself about an online blogger such as myself, be my guest. I won’t take you guff and foolish judgements of my heart and my “soul.” though. That is unacceptable. Even that religion you’re involved with states that your god is the only judge for those types of things. I will not tolerate any nonsense from superstitous folks who think their beliefs make them superior to me or anyone else. You are simply another primate, no better than I, so please keep your condenscending attitude to yourself.

Regarding Sarah Palin: I don’t lump her in with Beck and I plan on covering the subject with her in the future. She needs to think seriously about distancing herself from Glenn, especially after seeing the results of the most recent poll on presidential politics, where she garners a very low approval rating.

Your a moron TRANI, PolitiFact Ohio states that there is a site the tracks the stimulus money but they never state what site. Well, doing some research of my own I found http://www.recovery.gov and sure enough it appeared that Wilmington did recieve over 7 million in stimulus funds. Then I ACCUALLY read each grant they “received”. Turns out the city never received anything but the DOT and Columbus OH and other outside entities did receive the funds and listed the funds as being spent in WILMINGTON, OH!!!!! So again Wilmington didn‘t ask for anything and more importantly didn’t receive anything. Most of the 7 million (about 5.2) went to roads in and out of the city. WOW that helps!! What you got now TRANI!!!

      Here‘s what I’ve got.
      “they never asked for money”

Wilmington Mayor David Raizk, who cited several other sources of federal assistance flowing to the city, said he’s chasing any government help he can get.

“I’ve beat on more doors than I can count,” he says. “Not because we are looking for hand out – but we are looking for a hand up. My job is to get whatever assistance I can get for the citizens here and to help create jobs for them.”

You know what man, if you are looking to expose lies why don’t you try the President and the Congress and start with “ the most transparent administrations” or I will veto any bill with earmarks or every bill will have 72 hours prior to voting so members and public can read it or if you like your doctor you can keep it. No, that would be against your agenda now wouldn’t it ? You are actually the lowest of low because you pick on a talk show host who isn’t making decisions that affect our country or our economy but is doing something that brings good people together and doing something to help those who only want to have a decent life. You are jealous and those like media matters are jealous because none of you understand “goodness” or “kindness”. You understand hate and negativity otherwise you would not be wasting your time on this site attempting to discredit someone who has 0 political power. I feel sorry for people like you, I really do , you would take down a town or a group of people who have done nothing to you just to try and discredit someone who has done more to unite the human spirit then anyone else in many years. Life is real and the situation that many find themselves in this Christmas are unsettling and scary. We have a bunch of two faced idiots in Congress spending money they don’t have and are not entitled to and all most of us want is to be left alone and be allowed to live our lives as we see fit without worrying whether Congress or the President is going to screw us again. You need to shut down your laptop and try volunteering at a soup kitchen or find some worth while cause that will bring you some peace and happiness and allow the rest of us to choose what we believe in. We are not idiots and most of us have researched ourselves, we are educated, self informed and believe in the good of the American people. Merry Christmas and may you find some peace in your life.

If you listen to the entire segments from radio and TV, Glenn said that SugarTree Ministries has refused federal assistance, and that is based on what they told him and said on his show. Furthermore, Glenn was referring to media reports about Wilmington being ground zero of the recession and said many times that he thinks that it’s a mischaracterization based on how they have pulled together. PolitiFact, which is likely funded by György Soros, is being dishonest when they cherry pick these statements out of context, or they never bothered to listen to the relevant segments in their entirety. The piece reflects a strong bias and slanted writing style, showing that there is an ax to grind rather than reporting facts without manipulation.

You can keep straining at gnats, but the important thing here is that Glenn has really helped a lot of people on hard times. The pantry at SugarTree Ministry’s soup kitchen was nearly empty before Glenn started his campaign and now has more than enough food for the first six months of 2011. I was there about six hours ago. The pantry is overflowing and stacked to the ceiling, and they had a nice buffet going in their cafeteria serving the poor.

The real question here, Tranqueerrider, is why do you hate the poor and homeless so much? Wipe the Cheeto stains from your fingers, put on some pants, climb out of your parents’ basement, and go spend some time serving others at a local soup kitchen instead of trolling those who do.

P.S. Please give my regards to Comrade György.

Even if they did get some assistance …so what…The city is still a huge inspeiration to the rest of the country. Annd generally most stimulus and funds that come from the government goes directly to federal employees pension funds and yearly raises so the actual money that a non-government employee seen was probably not even worth discussing. It is easy to find something wrong with our fellow citizens, instead of finding a way to discredit a person, like the left does 24/7 to reach their goals regardless of the outcome and who they hurt, maybe find something uplifting that builds confidence and hope in the hearts of people who feel aweful because they don’t have a job or a way to feed thier families. This time of the year is about love and charity. That is a concept I have never seen from the likes of any leftist unless there was something in it for them. You would think with all th wealth that congress has and the lobbying that goes on in DC, a ray of charity or love would win …that will never happen because there are to many power hungry fools in office.

In your rush to denounce anything and everything that Glenn Beck does or says, you conveniently refuse to admit that the pretense for your claim is flawed even after being proved wrong. Glenn never said that the local government didn’t seek state and federal assistance. You gloss right over the fact that he was speaking of the local charities! Of course, Wilmington Mayor David Raizk had his hand out. He’s a Democrat! And he recently said that giving tax cuts to weatlthy taxpayers doesn’t stimulate the economy! Raizk is a full time car salesman and part time Mayor. That’s not some sort of an insult, it’s a fact. I know the man. He’s been a disaster as the mayor of my home town. Since he’s taken office, DHL, MicroWarehouse, American Tool and Randall Textron have all shut their doors in Wilmington. These were four of the largest employers in our community. What has replaced them? Nothing.

The people of Wilmington did apply for unemployment insurance compensation. Why shouldn’t we have? We didn’t do anything to make DHL close down. DHL took over Airborne Express and ruined a solid company and wonderful small town. ABX thrived for 25 years in Wilmington. Employment in Clinton County was never difficult to come by prior to their takeover. A physically able young person could always count on going out to ABX and working in the Sort section if need be. Now, the unemployment rate is the highest in the state. And it’s not just Wilmington that has been hit hard by DHL and bad local government in this area. The nearby community of Hillsboro in Highland County was hit nearly as hard.

That report stated that the surrounding counties of Clinton and Clark received a great deal of stimulus money. That may be so but anyone that lives in Clinton County knows that Clark County is not a surrounding county of Wilmington. Clark County is north of Greene County, 30 miles north of Wilmington. Lumping Clark County in with Wimington is just dishonest. Had they said Fayette or Highland counties, that would’ve been a completely different story; those counties were also greatly effected by the DHL shutdown.

Reid and these people are telling the American people.THEY DO NOT CARE!!

TRAITOR: One who betrays anothers trust is false to an obligation or a duty

You wonder if they are trying to incite RIOTS!!

Tax REVOLT April 15,2011. Do not file or send any money into the IRS until they contact you first. Then set up a payment plan for 2011.

If you usally get money back. That means you have overpaid taxs for that year. This is what the IRS wants. The “Government Stupid” had your money instead of you all year. Change your W-2 to more dependants for half the year!! Try to “NOT” get any money back or pay very little in 2012!!

The SSI 2% deduction sounds good The “Govermnet Stupid” wants you to think that they are giving you some extra money. But it is yours to begin with. They are hoping you buy some $100 tennis shoes. Remember that SSI is retirement Insuraance you pay for. Insurance you get “If” you live long enough to collect it. The more you pay “INTO” SSI determines how much you get back when and IF you get to collect it!! So the 2% deduction is all so DEDUCTING from your SSI

The DEATH TAX is one of the most IMMORAL things anyone has ever thought of!! It is the “Government Stupid’s” JOB to protect WE THE PEOPLE’S property NOT to TAKE it!!! This is UNCONSTITUTIONAL and TRYANNY at its best!! They say it is all about WE THE PEOPLE and not leaving our kids in DEBT.Then they want to take YOUR kids money that YOU worked hard to make FOR your kids and family!!!

      TERM LIMITS NOW !!

      FAIR TAX NOW !!

Wow, if all you can find against Glenn is probably a slip of the tongue, you need to re-read Sarah Palin’s response to the bashing she took over her slip of the tongue when she said “North Korea” instead of “South Korea.” You guys just show how petty you really are when you point out stupid stuff against those like Glenn and Sarah, yet fail to do the same to your Annointed One!

Woah, Glenn! Is that ALL you? Too much schnitzengruben?

LILI VON SHTUPP: “Would you like another schnitzengruben?”
sheriff BART: “No, thank you. Fifteen is my limit on schnitzengruben.”
