Santorum After SC Primary: I Come From That Area of PA That ‘Holds on Tightly to Their Guns and Their Bibles’

(The Blaze/AP)Vowing to go forward, Republican Rick Santorum cast his third-place finish in this state’s primary as a hiccup and pledged Saturday to continue with a campaign that he called “wide open.”
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich claimed the top spot in this state’s first-in-the-South primary and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney claimed second. Undeterred, Santorum did not acknowledge the deficits he faces – chiefly money and momentum – and insisted he would press forward with a campaign that increasingly looked to be on its last legs.
“Let me assure you we will go to Florida and we will go to Arizona,“ he said before supporters interrupted him with cheers of ”We pick Rick.”
“I ask you: it’s a wide-open race. Join the fight,” he urged them at an election night rally at the Citadel.
Santorum eked out a narrow win in lead-off Iowa but lost in a blow-out to Mitt Romney in New Hampshire. Santorum had cast South Carolina as a place where he could start a well-financed, traditional campaign, yet he came up well short to Gingrich.
“Three states. Three different winners. What a great country,” Santorum said.
For months, Santorum has cast himself as the candidate who can best compare his record with President Barack Obama and pitched himself as the most consistent conservative in the race. The former Pennsylvania senator urged Republicans to stand up for social conservative values and promised to continue his campaign with that unapologetic and, at times, aggressive message.
The disadvantages that plagued Santorum early on – lack of money, shell operations, negligible advertising – gave way to a more professional campaign here. He had the money to air ads, hire staff and cover as much ground as possible with a private airplane. Many of his senior advisers had deep roots to the state and in recent days he beamed confidently that South Carolina could give him his second win in an early state.
That win didn’t come Saturday and his advisers were shuffling to reset the campaign yet again, this time in costly Florida. His aides planned for him to greet voters near Fort Lauderdale on Sunday and then prepare for two debates in the coming week.
But Florida is a costly state where the campaigns are fought on television ads, not diners and storefronts that were the center of Santorum’s strategy to this point. The sheer size of Florida is a challenge for candidates to navigate, although Santorum’s tentative plans call for him to focus on just one media market a day.
Santorum’s outside allies seemed poised to bankroll supportive ads – at least for now.
“The longer we can keep his candidacy going, the more people can see his qualities,” said Foster Friess, a Wyoming businessman and a major contributor to the Red, White and Blue Fund, an outside “super” political committee supporting Santorum. “If you look at Republicans, they always run these old war horses. Santorum is different.”

Posted on January 22, 2012 at 8:00amWhat‘s telling about this article is that The Blaze doesn’t point out the irony of Santorum’s anti-2nd-amendment history. I thought the truth had no agenda? The majority imposing its will on the minority is not and never has been conservative. Beck likes Santorum because he is consumed by a paranoid hatred of Islam that supercedes all else.

Nobody that’s a TRUE Conservative votes for a dishonorable and dishonest man. Gingrich has a history of being emotionally abusive and dishonest to past wives, ethics violations professionally, and multiple examples of being a proponent of “Big Government” and weakened sovereignty (e.g.- NAFTA, GATT). Apparently, they have no problem with a sleazy man representing them. They must really be looking forward to setting a new standard: “the President and First ‘Ho”…………

Posted on January 22, 2012 at 12:31amTHERE IS NO QUESTION THAT SANTORUM IS LEGIONS BETTER THAN GINGRICH…
Gingrich is a big government progressive that praised FDR, Wilson, and the Progressive Movement, but more importantly he supported a federally controlled individual mandate, much like ObamaCare, which is unlike Romney because his was ‘Pay for your insurance of pay your own bill’ a state run individual mandate.
THERE IS LITTLE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GINGRICH AND OBAMA…
The are both progressives, though Romney has said he had some progressive views in 2002, Gingrich continues to have big government expansive views. Both are anti-Free Market, both fighting Capitalism. Larry Kudlow was tearing down on Gingrich for his anti-Capitalistic rhetoric and views ( http://url2it.com/lite ) and Gingrich stands by them, though his movie and his rhetoric was found to be false.

I will refrain from revealing any emotion. We lost a child. Every parent that does mourns in their own way, and they are entitled to it, just as you are to your opinion. And I to mine. I was, like others at first, impressed with Newt’s debate performances and capabilities. I appreciate signs of intellect when I see them. Newt is certainly sporting a higher IQ then the teleprompter-reader-in-chief. But any self respecting man who supports Newt after knowing what we know about him is the definition of creepy. It should only be expected that he would find fans among those who either do what he does or wish they could. His personal and political history should make you shudder, and here he has your support. Tsk. Tsk.
At least Santorum had enough conviction of soul and belief in God that he did not renounce his faith as a result of so great a loss. Weaker individuals do.

I understand tough, knock-down-drag-out, primary politics but Santorum has taken it a bit above a tough fight & beyond civility. All of his answers in debates have been attacks on fellow Republicans & little or nothing to do to show how he’s better than Obama (a recipe for disaster).
I’m not sure even if he’s the Nominee that I can vote for someone who tears down & slanders his fellow Republicans solely to promote himself [Regan’s 13th commandment] (how is he better than the Dems or Lame-stream-media?).
P.S. – I’m not sure I really believe he’s as staunchly conservative as he proclaims to be – no doubt he’s conservative but I think he’s pandering just as all but strange uncle Ron Paul is (who while I can’t vote for him has REAL convictions).

I liked how he referred to “steel sharpening steel” — reminded me of how Palin mentioned the “iron sharpens iron.” Santorum may not be the ONLY conservative in the race — but he is the only conservative in the race who can win the general election. Fact to consider: Santorum’s national poll numbers of those with a “negative” versus “positive” view? Both negative and positive in the 30′s. Newt was also in the 30′s for positive but over 50% negative. Santorum speaks strongly, articulately, and to the heart. He is right about Newt: Newt is erratic. I would add that Newt is a meglamanic — a view reinforced by the article in the Wall Street Journal (2 days ago) about him.

First off that would not happen, That is but one problem, and you have to fix ALL of the problems before companies would return
Second, the Federal Government should not favor one industry over any other. That is “Subsidising” or Picking Winners and Losers.
Taxation is not for Social Engineering, it should be used ONLY to raise funds needed for government function, ONE set of rules should be creates and EVERYONE follows those rules, not “If you do XXX you get XXX Tax break because we like that activity”
SImply the Tax code (i.e Flat Tax) and Get rid of alot of the Federal Regulations then you would see the boom your looking for, Having the government pick winners and losers is Totalitarianism, not small limited constitutional governance
and that I why I will never support Santorum, He is fine with Big Government, as long as it is the “Right Kind” of big government… The Catholic Kind
