Santorum Admits: I Must Finish ‘Top 5’ in Iowa Straw Poll to Stay in The Race

Former PA Senator Rick Santorum came to Iowa with the intention of visiting all of the state’s 99 counties and making a respectable showing in the upcoming straw poll.
What does Mr. Santorum consider to be a “respectable showing?” He visited the Des Moines studios of Newsradio 1040 last week and spoke with News Radio 1040′s Simon Conway about his expectations for the upcoming Iowa straw polls. According to him, he must finish fifth or better to stay in the race. If not, he said that would send a “serious signal” that he doesn’t have the “kind of support” he needs:
These comments from last week show the importance of the straw poll, and how it has the power to make or break campaigns.
The LA Times is reporting that the candidate’s people are saying a 4th place finish is expected. However, an unscientific, post-debate poll taken by The Blaze has Santorum finishing in 6th place. Bad sign?

Posted on August 12, 2011 at 1:08pmDon’t know much about Santorum to show any contempt… just what I’ve been reading here and what I saw last night. I don’t think America needs another “camera safe” politician right now. We’ve had that with Obama for the last 2 years. We need a candidate with a little grit in their teeth and some dirt in their fingernails. Someone who can lead and persuade. All the best to Santorum… will vote for him if it comes down to it, but right now he wouldn’t get my vote.

Posted on August 12, 2011 at 12:57pmDo what you may…. I am from PA and I have had face to face discussions with Santorum. He disrespected the Veterans one to many times in front of me. Ask him why he doesn’t even visit the Butler VA Hospital in PA which is where his Mother and Father worked and where they and little Ricky lived. I am a longtime GOP ( was DEM when DEM meant someting other than what it does now.. I was a Kennedy Young DEM.) If Santorum offered up a pantload of gold to everyone… not enough for my vote. He had (has) no respect for our Veterans and Military but for dressing his campaign. I don’t listen to what they say, I look at what they do… and measure them from there. Good luck to the rest of you.

Posted on August 12, 2011 at 12:48pmI‘ve watched this guy talk and I’ve read up on him and he is all over the place – I just can’t read him or understand what his fundamental political views really are. To me he‘s just a confusing person and I don’t think people will wait around for him to get his act together. Maybe he should drop out and try again in a few years.

Posted on August 12, 2011 at 12:48pmI have liked Mr. Santorum from the beginning but he never gets any help from the media – it’s like they have already dismissed him. It makes me so mad. The media can play a huge role on who gets a viable shot at the actual primary ballot! We the people DID NOT LIKE Romney last time – remember? We voted McCain as the Republican candidate.. he was a progressive! We have to stop doing that! Paul is refreshing but can be flaky. Pawlenty – he’s to weak, Mr. Cain I love but he just doesn’t have enough experience in enough areas.. he admits it, good guy, but will be the leader of the United States of America and I don’t think he could cut it. Michele Bachman – great choice for VP. I really love her and everything she stands for but I would like a man for “Commander in Chief”… yes I know, sexist but I am a woman and that matters to me.Gingrich, probably one of the best choices so far but too old, too white and too establishment for some. I would prefer him over some of the others and has a ton of experience. I can’t wait to see what happens. I spend a lot of time in prayer – asking God to send us a leader who will UNITE AND NOT DIVIDE US – WHO WILL RESTORE HONOR AND DIGNITY TO THIS NATION.. My number one ticket… Allen West – Michelle Bachman but I don’ t think that is going to happen…

Posted on August 12, 2011 at 3:46pmI agree with you on many sides but right now I am peeping around Gingrich and Santorum. I pray they stay the course. Both understand our American Heritage and how it is the Founding framework that was / is based on God’s Word. Many people may not get the fact that when Rick speaks of the need to reclaim our moral and ethical values he is speaking of the framework of the Constitution which is based upon the Bible. Many of our Founders, as you probably already know, believed that “Religion and Morality” are the indispensable supports upon which the Constitution stands. Without those we cease to be able to self-govern ourselves. At that point, and we may be there, Govt tries to legislate morality and create BIGGER govt…socialism. Dsang1 thanks for your continued prayers for Rick and our great Nation! God Bless!

Posted on August 12, 2011 at 12:24pmI like Rick alot. I think he’s got the balls to stand up to the libs and MSM. I also admire him for being a religious man and what he said last night blew me away about bringing back the morality in this country. A tall order, and something that he should be commeded on. I do agree with some of the posters, it may not be his time yet. I have said it before and I will say it again, I wish whomever gets the nomination, he or she give key cabinet positions to the other candidates that did not get the nomination. They all have great ideas on their own, and if combined into one administration, IMHO, we can be the “ super power ” and land of the free we once were!

Posted on August 12, 2011 at 11:44amSantorum shows tons of promise. Let’s face it, he’s outclassed this cycle. He’ll have to run again, and maybe… again… to finish first. He can’t build a presidential bid overnight. It’s not his turn yet. Presidential looking Romney and best pick Tea Partier Bachmann are standing in his way.

Posted on August 12, 2011 at 11:38amYeah, here we go, America’s got talent Campaign Trail Version:
“I like Rick Santorum, he has no understanding of economics, and he also doesn’t know his history, and makes very illogical assumptions with his misinformation.”
“I like Rick Santorum because he is a God fearing man. People can’t lie about intentions behind a religious farce, so they can manipulate government the way they want, I mean, people can’t LIE about being a Christian to gain power by dumb people willing to vote on him simply because of that……..right….? I mean……..they can’t do that right?”
“I like Rick Santorum because he honestly believes in the Muslim boogeyman. He also is accurately aware that we as a nation can spend resources we don’t have, let me say that again, RESOURCES WE DO NOT HAVE, to police the world. WE LOVE EMPIRE AMERICA!”
You people are ridiculous, I mean, if we go off on Rick Santorum’s logic, we should invade the entire world, so we can make sure bad people do not get bad weapons. Hrm, that probably doesn’t cost a lot does it?
I mean…….It is possible right?
I am trying to find a quote of our forefathers saying “America will always be the dominant nation, and we will make sure everyone else in the world is like us, even if it requires us to get taxed to death!”
Oh, wait, I think the forefathers did not care about national status? They just wanted to be free?
Na, Let us go kill some Muslims shall we?

Posted on August 12, 2011 at 11:22amRick Santorum should run for the Senate or the house. We need to fill all of the seats in both houses that are up for reelection. More money should be directed to take both houses with a veto proof majority. Again Rick Santorum should focus one of the houses. We need him there.

Posted on August 12, 2011 at 12:07pmWhat he did well last night was neutralize Ron Paul. I dont care what the straw polls say, you cannot go on national TV and say Iran is of no threat to anyone as Paul did. Santorum also did well in his rant about the 10th Amendment. I get it about Paul, he wants complete and total freedom of choice. Problem is for him and kind is Founding Fathers put us to the left of anarchy! There has to be some govt control to keep us from insane moves. He wants to legalize drugs, drew up a bill with B. Frank on it and I wouldnt put it past him on legalizing prostitution.. oh Im sorry leaving it up to the states to decide. We have seen how out of control the states can get esp if they a dominant progressive liberals. You are talking total chaos for some states if he had his way, chaos that could spill over to other states! I mean do you want the insanity of CA rolling over to Washington, NV, TX, New Mex, AZ etc etc? Some say it could never, well no one can predict the future so you cant say it wont!
Santorum IMO doesnt stand a chance b/c he doesnt have the money nor wow factor. Heck none of them do, lets get that clear. He did however put on a decent show last night all of them did, but as to taking out the BHO election machine… we are fracked!

What he did was show his rear and made himself look stupid.
He preached more Government, more Government, more Government and then proclaims he relates to the TEA party.
Say this out loud “I’m for more Government” because you are.
Did the founders criminalize “drugs”? Nope they grew hemp and actually subsided Hemp farms. Drug abuse should be treated as what it is, an illness. Do you think we should lock all people up with illness? Caffeine is a drug, should it be illegal by nanny government? Is alcohol a drug? Be consistent.
You may fear freedom and need a nanny but understand the founders didn’t think you did. Either you stand with the founders or you do not, which is it?
Ron Paul is a libertarian Constitutionalist, not anarchist. Glenn Beck himself said he is identical to the founders.
Don’t be scared of Liberty and a true Constitutional Republic. Fear will just keep you in the closet. Have a great day!
