Santorum on Obama Wanting Every American to Go to College: ‘What a Snob!’

AP
Rick Santorum on Saturday called President Barack Obama “a snob” for hoping every American will go to college.
“President Obama said he wants everybody in America to go to college. What a snob!” the GOP contender said during a campaign stop in Michigan.
As the crowd laughed and applauded, Santorum added: “There are good, decent men and women who go out and work hard every day and put their skills to the test that aren’t taught by some liberal college professor trying to indoctrinate them.”
During his State of the Union address last month, Obama called for higher education institutions to become more affordable or risk losing federal funding cuts, saying: “Higher education can’t be a luxury — it is an economic imperative that every family in America should be able to afford.” His 2013 budget request unveiled earlier this month includes an $8 million proposal to invest in community colleges to help train workers.
“Oh I understand why he wants you to go to college,” Santorum continued. “He wants to remake you in his image. I want to create jobs so people can remake their children into their image, not his.”
As Talking Points Memo pointed out, Santorum’s ill-fated 2006 Senate re-election campaign included a commitment to “ensuring the every Pennsylvanian has access to higher education.”

And we know why Obama wants that. It’s NOT because Obama wants kids to get a useful education. It‘s so teacher’s union lackies can bully and brainwash America‘s youth into Obama’s vile, corrupt mindset, using their taxpayer funded podiums – as shown in Marxist Valley College at Youtube. http://www.youtube.com/user/ManAmongOaks#p/u/3/7iVmh0VCkL4

I got so sick of teaching that I left it to return to working in the oilfields of West Texas at almost 50 years of age. I hated every minute of teaching, especially the the last three years. I would never advise anyone to follow the path I chose, school teacher and coach. College is worth it if you get a degree that is valuable such as engineering, nursing, etc. Teaching is a very dishonorable profession. The kids are turds, the teachers/administrators are total sold out to the leftist cause, and the parents won’t take responsible for their children.

The people there will probably be more than happy to help you understand your misunderstanding. Also that “ You tell me” argument makes you come off as aggressive and ignorant Robert999. Try a more reasoned approach, like explaining your position. If you want people to come around to your way of thinking then the debate tactics you learned in second grade must be left behind for more convincing techniques. Colleges also teach classes on that and I’m sure you would find it a valuable use of your time.

Muhammad was not divinely given his message by God, it was a hoax pulled off by the Catholic Church. If not for the greed of the Catholic Church during the early years of Christianity the Islam religion would never have been created.
Unfortunately many men in the early Catholic Church were not very honest and greed ruled the era.

Many of these students are simply poorly prepared and can catch up and go on to standard college classes; these students can succeed if they apply themselves. Others may succeed in the job market, for they have a strong work ethic and don’t really need an academic background, but many do NOT belong in college; they have no drive, no internal push to better themselves or to learn. They are simply taking up space in the dorms because the government promised them full tuition and room & board–and we pay for it. Saying that they belong in the job market is a lie; many of these losers will never even look for a job, much less find one and earn a paycheck. These losers think they DESERVE a FREE education, no, a free degree. They don’t want to learn. Posted on February 26, 2012 at 5:51amThe same way you deal with any other ignorant/bigoted racist religous zealot (such as yourself). Step one… you recognize they’re PEOPLE. Come on, man, we TRY. We’re not even doing that. As RP pointed out, we’re abandoning the “just war theory” of Christianity. Think about it. Everything you know about the situation in Iran comes from the U.N. then gets filtered through our corporatist media who is owned by globalist CFR members. You express concern about a “one world government” but you’re sucking up their propaganda, while dismissing the veterans (who care about our sovereignty) that are telling you we’re on the wrong course. We can’t let our emotions get the best of us. It‘s not like I’m not constantly struggling to overcome my prejudices towards muslims like everyone else here. We’re bombarded by stories, pictures and video of every crazy-ass thing they do, but we’re being baited. So we ask to negotiate. If they refuse we leave them alone. If we leave them alone the Suni’s and Shiites will fight each other rather than unite against us. Problem with that approach is it could disrupt OIL supply and we still have a terrorist threat. Posted on February 25, 2012 at 2:20pmAs most insightful, knowledgeable people already know, the upside-down current
state of things started long ago. Ive heard it described as the frog in a boiling pot
of water scenario.
Once upon a time, the craftsman/maker/producer of a product was looked up to,
rightly so, as the highly skilled professional who hand-made boots, musical instruments,
furniture, wrought iron works, etc. These highly skilled talented people didnt necessarily
need college degrees. They learned and honed their craft over years time and became experts.
While their college educated counterparts were the unskilled.
Now it has been reversed, where the skilled tradesman/craftsman is looked down on in
favor of the college educated “intellectual” with an MBA or JD.
With a top-tier University charging upwards of $60K PER YEAR to fill a student’s
head with liberal garbage I no longer think the value is there to support the extremely
exorbitant price tag. Another example of government intrusion gone amuck.
Get the Gov out of the education business, out of interference with free markets, and
Report Post »out of the business of subsidizing education and watch the tuition rates drop like a stone.
The only reason schools can get these tuition rates is because government funds the
“loans” at these exorbitant rates….and leaves the students with crushing debts for
nearly a lifetime.

Posted on February 25, 2012 at 2:07pmWe need to redefine the term ‘higher education’. To me, higher education simply means having access to any education beyond high school be vocational, technical or university. Having access to ‘higher education’ does not necessarily mean everyone goes to a university.
Very few if any high schools provide the higher education or skills needed for carpenters, plumbers, electricians, auto mechanics or even quality yard work. All of these need more than a high school education but do not require a college/university indoctrination or degree.
Personally, I wish someone had kept me from going to collge but rather encouraged me to attend the local vocation/technical school – I would probably be employed and maybe even self-employed rather than having to rely on the generosity and kindness of family and friends while I search for employment.

Posted on February 25, 2012 at 2:03pmI wish Liberals could listen and repeat everything he said until they understood the words.
If everybody goes to college and everybody gets a college degree then having a college degree won’t be very effective in the job market now will it?
College is supposed to be expensive because its supposed to pay highly qualified and specialized professors to teach specific and valuable knowledge.
If college costs less then they will pay professors less and the quality of professors will decline at the same time more and more people go to college.
So not only will the degree itseld be useless, the education will be even more useless.
He wants to turn College in to High School.
Higher education IS a luxury. Its MORE education. You have to excell in school and then earn a scholarship or pay for this specialized education. That is the whole point.
Everybody can’t be a doctor, everybody can’t be a rock star, eveybody can‘t be 7’0 basketball player. College isn’t for everybody and it has nothing to do with fairness.

Posted on February 25, 2012 at 2:07pmTwelve years should be more than enough, but unfortunately much of that time is wasted on political agendas (indoctrination) and dumbing down the populace so they might be more easily controlled. Many emerging from our “public educational system” are in no way READY for life, let alone college!
Obama and his ilke just want to indoctrinate young workers further in the “higher education institutions.” It‘s one reason he’s also trying to be able to mandate what faiths offer, teach–and don’t. . because for now they are private and do not indoctrinate their students with the liberal propaganda.
The big PUSH into “higher education” will:
1. Likely put even more people into debt.
2. Open more up to wanting “free higher education” which will then indenture them to the government for at least 15 years, following their “education.”
3. Give more opportunity for the government to indoctrinate people into their ways of thinking.
It all works together. Debt – then need – then a way out (work off the debt by working for the government – government then controls the work one does) and continues the indoctrination of the people.

Posted on February 25, 2012 at 2:09pmthe entire purpose of education was to provide people specific skills so they could function in various workplaces.
You learned how to read, write and think critically and you learned about math.
Everything else was extra. If you could do those things you could start a business, work your way up in a company and manage money while communicating effectively.
Now education is merely government mandated child support. A place where kids must go 5 days a week. A high school diploma is issued out to those who worked the hardest and to those who didn’t work at all.
It has no value.
What we NEED is the freedom to build our lives. All the education in the world won’t teach you how to create a successful life.
Our successful grandparents learned the basics, reading writing and math, and they did amazing.
We have 13 years of the “best education” and half of us can’t manage to complete a sentence correctly by the time we leave.
common sense and pride in achievement is what we need.

Completely agree. As one who has gone to college and training (total 14 years after high school), I have a bias towards education. However, education can be obtained in more ways than through many of our dysfunctional professors in our colleges and our universities. Trade schools are extremely important and may be more important in the future than most of our college degrees. Educating oneself through direct source reading is a lost art in many of our youth.
In the end, we should encourage education for all. However, it‘s the parent’s responsibility, and occasionally the local community can help.

Posted on February 25, 2012 at 4:59pmNeverending, I have experience with both Catholic (elementary) and public (high) school systems and got good educations from them both. One key element I believe is a problem in America is that parents are not involved in their kids’ education. They don’t monitor what texts they use, attend school board meetings, or push their kids in their studies. I know some do but I‘ll wager most don’t. I really don’t believe we can blame “government” for the state of education. We are the government that we allow to exist.

Posted on February 25, 2012 at 6:23pmOf course not. It would be insane to think everyone should go to college. Now if the question is should everyone be ABLE to attend college then I think yes. A college degree is a noble pursuit, as is attending a vocational school, or learning some kind of trade.Granted I don’t believe college is the fascist socialist hole of debauchery everyone thinks it is but seeing as I attend one right now my view should be taken with a grain of salt. The one political class I’ve taken had a teacher who very much avoided letting us know his own opinion. Colleges certainly are liberal places but with such large cross sections of peoples and cultures and all of them young, it seems unlikely anything else could exist as a stable system there. Private universities that are decidedly more mono-cultural probably will tend to more conservative ideologies and that’s fine although that type of institution is becoming more rare I think.
Just some food for thought. Some people here seem to be suffering from malnutrition.
