Santorum: ‘Probably Not the Smartest Thing’ to Call Obama a ‘Snob’

Rick Santorum on Friday walked back calling President Barack Obama a “snob” for wanting every American to complete some higher-level education.
Speaking with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, the GOP presidential hopeful acknowledged his word choice was “a little over the top” but defended it within the context of the speech he was giving.
“I was giving a long riff about the president mandating things on people. I was talking about the government and president mandating health care and, you know, what kind of loans we’re going to get,” he said. “I went in and talked about the, you know, the — the issue of — of him now coming forward with the statement that every child should go to college. And — and it was this attitude that government knows best.”
Santorum continued, “It was a strong term, probably not the smartest thing but you know what, I don’t give prepared talking points speeches written by other people.”
As The Blaze previously reported, Santorum was speaking during a campaign stop in Michigan last week when he said: “President Obama said he wants everybody in America to go to college. What a snob!”

Had Michigan not been as close, the Democrats would have waited to spring this on us in the general election. Luckily we have it now and I hope Ohio voters are paying attention.
In July 2009, Mitt Romney wrote an op-ed in USA Today urging Barack Obama to usean individual mandate at the national level to control healthcare costs.
On the campaign trail now, Mitt Romney says the individual mandate is appropriate for Massachusetts, but not the nation. Repeatedly in debates, Romney has said he opposes a national individual mandate.
But back in 2009, as Barack Obama was formulating his healthcare vision for the country, Mitt Romney encouraged him publicly to use an individual mandate. In his op-ed, Governor Romney suggested that the federal government learn from Massachusetts how to make healthcare available for all. One of those things was “Using tax penalties, as we did, or tax credits, as others have proposed, encourages “free riders” to take responsibility for themselves rather than pass their medical costs on to others.”
Friends, if Mitt Romney is the nominee, we will be unable to fight Obama on an issue that 60% of Americans agree with us on.

Santorum would deny students the help they need to get an advanced education, and tell doctors what medically unnecessary procedures to perform, and force employees of all religions to go without birth control. Talk about narcissism and Marxism! You oughta vote for Gingrich. He’s going to put a colony of people on Mars, although I’m not sure why.

Thanks for pointing that out. My wording was poor. I meant all the conservative pundits who are invited to opine in the MSM, and whose political narrative liberal anchors gleefully encourage. Glenn openly cheers for this guy, but most others do it matter-of factly. Here’s a recent example: ALL the “panels of experts” gave Santorum the victory in MI. Their narrative: Romney dodged a bullet. Romney has been unable to broaden his support base. Santorum has gone from single digits in the polls, to being the conservative alternative to Romney. This was a victory for Santorum, considering he put in very little money compared to the millions Romney poured into his own home state. Santorum won more delegates, and on and on it went.
The MSM hates all our candidates, but they know only Romney stands a chance of beating Obama, given that moderates and independents view Santorum as too far right. So while the MSM has gone after Santorum — knowing full well conservative voters have a visceral reaction to their cr*p — they have consistently indulged CONSERVATIVE support of Santorum and criticism of Romney. It is a brilliant strategy to get us to elect the lightweight candidate, and it was working. Hopefully, not anymore.

Guy has no appeal in a general election, which is why the establishment doesn’t want him to win.
Yes I know people will talk about how bad the establishment is, and blah blah blah blah.
When it boils down to it, the establishment wants someone who will win and someone that might appeal to more than just staunch conservatives. People will say, “Look where McCain got us!” The reason McCain lost wasn’t because he was too moderate, it was because Obama was a much younger, more energetic candidate who appealed to a growing number of people while incorporating technology to his campaign and platform.
Instead of going FURTHER to the right, the Republicans should start trying to promote a center right politician as having a strong future in the GOP. Why do you think they love people like Rubio? Because he’s young, energetic and appeals to a base that the Republicans normally suffer in.
Santorum is exactly the type of candidate that the GOP doesn’t need. A guy who goes around and essentially makes attacks ads for his opponent by saying absolutely idiotic things.

I am a Reagan conservative too, and I couldn’t believe my eyes when the GOP candidates held their first debate. I thought, “Man, we got the cream of the cr@p!” My candidate of choice would have been Paul Ryan, but he didn’t heed the call. I won’t judge him for that, but I was deeply disappointed. For now, I will be content if our “least worst” candidate kicks Obama’s butt out of the WH.

I agree that McCain lost because he is pathetically weak and did the unthinkable, which was to DEFEND Obama every time the man’s radical record was exposed. That being said, Obama ran the dirtiest campaign ever in American history. As far as I’m concerned most of what he did was illegal, although he got away with it. You and I are not the only ones hungering for the truth in this country. If the truth hurts, so be it! It’s always better than a lie. I will always refer to Obama as the No Child Left Behind, Affirmative Action president until I’m proven wrong. Since his school records have been hidden from the public, we can only assume what those records would tell us. And that is my assumption. I would rather know the truth, but someone feels the need to keep the truth from us for some reason. People will always question what the truth is until you give it to them. It’s hard for me not to think the worst of Obama when contradicts himself all the time and hides his past from us. And what little we do find out, does not look good to any true American. We could easily question why Obama got a Nobel Peace Prize too! Isn’t that what Affirmative Action does? Reward people that don’t deserve the reward and give people a job that are less qualified than, say…….a white person with more qualifications? I’m not being racist, just fair and rational! Getting back on topic here, Obama has proven himself to be a snob in more ways than just this issue. Look at the people who have unlimited access to the White House and the people and groups he has snubbed. Listen to the snobby statements he makes in public about the American people. Obama forgets that he is a public servant, not a king or “messiah” to be worshipped.
