Santorum Reveals Animus Toward Rivals: Paul Has Been Running for POTUS ‘Since 1938,‘ Gingrich Is ’All Over the Place’

AIKEN, S.C. (The Blaze/AP) — Rick Santorum on Tuesday branded Mitt Romney a liberal, said Newt Gingrich’s policy positions have been “all over the place” and laughed that Ron Paul has been running for president “since 1938,” looking to capture the GOP presidential nomination even if takes harsh words for fellow Republicans.
Santorum, a long-time footnote in the GOP contest now attracting scrutiny, tried to punch his way to the top of the pack with scathing critiques of his rivals ahead of Saturday’s South Carolina primary. In campaign speeches and a new TV ad, the former senator from Pennsylvania sharpened his criticism and urged conservatives to coalesce around one of their own or face Romney as the GOP’s nominee.
“He’s got a lot of money, but he doesn’t have the convictions, the authenticity nor the record that is necessary to win this election,” Santorum told voters about Romney. “Please consolidate.”
At the same time, he sought to cast Gingrich, the former House speaker, as an insufficiently conservative option.
“Speaker Gingrich is not nearly as conservative as I am on most issues,” Santorum said.
“Newt is bold, but he is all over the place,” he continued. “Attacking capitalism, supporting capitalism. Against global warming, for global warming. We need someone who is bold and consistent.”
Santorum, a sometimes acerbic and often sarcastic campaigner, has done little to hide his animosity toward his rivals since he came within eight votes of winning Iowa’s caucuses earlier this month. He even took a shot at the 76-year-old Paul, who bested him New Hampshire and has needled him from afar.
“Congressman Paul had been running in New Hampshire for president since 1938,” he said.
Conservatives, it seemed, were recognizing their dilemma: Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Gingrich and Santorum all were vying to emerge the leading alternative to Romney. Thus far, however, they have fractured their support and Romney has won both Iowa‘s and New Hampshire’s lead-off contests.
“We conservatives are splitting the vote,” Aiken voter Michele Merritt told Santorum. “Is there not anything that those conservatives can do to get together for the good of the country and try to coalesce behind one person that will be able to take on Romney and win? Because I really, really don’t want Romney to get the nomination.”
Santorum nodded but stopped short of urging anyone to exit from the race.
“I believe everybody has a right to be in this race if they want to be in this race and fight as hard as they want for as long as they want,” he later told reporters in Lexington. “I’m not into political games, or political deals.”
Santorum finished a close second in Iowa on a shoestring budget. Fundraising took off after that and Santorum was finally in a position to spend some of the $3 million he raised that week.
In an ad scheduled to start airing Wednesday in South Carolina, Santorum likened Romney to President Barack Obama.
“Obama supported the Wall Street bailouts. So did Romney. Obama gave us radical Obamacare that was based on Romneycare,” the ad’s narrator says. “Obama’s a liberal on social issues. Romney once bragged he’s even more liberal than Ted Kennedy on social issues.”
The ad then asks: “Why would we ever vote for someone who is just like Obama?”
Previewing the criticism, Santorum mocked Romney’s position that the health care overhaul he signed into law in Massachusetts was fine but a national version is unacceptable.
“Boy, that’s pretty powerful,” he sniped.
“South Carolina can’t put a candidate up … who cannot stand up on the most critical issue of the day and draw a contrast,” Santorum said of Romney.
Romney’s allies, meanwhile, were airing an ad that says Santorum “even voted to let convicted felons vote.”
Santorum complained that the TV spot, while referring to “felons,” shows someone in an orange prison jumpsuit, suggesting that Santorum would allow them to vote while still incarcerated. Santorum has supported voting rights only for those who have served their sentences and been released.
He called the ad “one of the cheapest shots ever” and said Romney should tell his allies to back off.
“I would never, ever, ever want to be affiliated or associated with anybody doing something for me that I know is blatantly false,” Santorum said.
Romney countered that “people who have been released from prison are still called felons if they’ve committed felonies.”

His campaign also filed incomplete slates of delegates in Illinois and Ohio, which could limit his ability to win delegates in those key states. He will be finished. Posted on January 18, 2012 at 3:50pmDavid Boaz of the Cato Institute took issue with Santorum’s words, asserting that there is in fact such a society that has radical individualism and has succeeded as a culture: the United States. Boaz said, “It really is stunning that here is a candidate … who has directly attacked the idea of the pursuit of happiness. It’s in the Declaration of Independence. It’s the fundamental idea of America.”
Boaz contends that Santorum’s statement proves that Santorum’s intent, if he were to be elected President, is to regulate society, and control multiple facets of American life.
Likewise, it is not just Santorum’s statement which undermines his assertion that he is a conservative. His record in the Senate is equally revealing.
Santorum voted in favor of the failed No Child Left Behind, introduced by President George W. Bush. Like all other education reform laws, NCLB not only failed to improve achievement overall, but failed to narrow achievement gaps, or improve preexisting trends in student achievement. A true conservative recognizes that education should be returned to the authority of the states, and that it is an unconstitutional usurpation of power by the federal government to attempt to regulate education. http://www.thenewamerican.com/usnews/politics/10456-rick-santorums-take-on-libertarianism-vs-conservatism

“One of the criticisms I make is to what I refer to as more of a Libertarianish right.
They have this idea that people should be left alone, be able to do whatever they want to do, government should keep our taxes down and keep our regulations low, that we shouldn’t get involved in the bedroom, we shouldn’t get involved in cultural issues. {ARE YOU KIDDING ME???}
That is not how traditional conservatives view the world. There is no such society that I’m aware of, where we’ve had radical individualism and that it succeeds as a culture.”

Insults the three for failing to make the Virginia ballot
CHARLESTON, South Carolina—Ron Paul’s presidential campaign has a message for Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, and Rick Perry after they failed to get on the Virginia ballot — “it’s over.”
The three candidates joined in a lawsuit seeking to challenge the signature requirement for the Virginia primary ballot, but were unsuccessful in winning the right to appear.
“It’s over,” said Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton in a statement to the press. “Ron Paul, the candidate of real change, will face off against establishment flip-flopper Mitt Romney in the Virginia primary, making that that Tuesday less ‘super’ for serial hypocrite Newt Gingrich, counterfeit conservative Rick Santorum, and Rick Perry, who I should mention is marginally attached to the presidential race.”

We’ve got a congress full of people who espouse one thing to voters and vote for something very different when their opinion actually counts for something.
There are those who label Ron Paul supporters as nuts, kooks, cultists – insert ad hominem, but speaking for myself, I support Ron Paul because of his ideas. Ron Paul is at the head of the current freedom movement and would actually do something with regard to bloated, authoritarian government and out of control spending. What I find laughable are the self-described conservatives who always toss out their principles and end up voting for a moderate, big government republican. In the end, you get what you deserve.

The Dr. also wrote or sponsored 620 bills. Which of the 620 did you not agree with? Which of the 620 did your Senators and Congressman vote for or vote against? Which of the 620 was unconstitutional? Oh, I’m assuming you read them. How stupid of me.
Well here is a few of them.
Repeal the Brady Bill, which sets up virtually all the infrastructure the government needs to implement national gun registration
Repeal the so-called “Assault Weapons” Ban, which banned an entire class of firearms based on little more than looking scary
End U.S. membership in the anti-gun United Nations to ensure American tax dollars are not used to fund global gun control schemes like the so-called “Small Arms Treaty”
Repeal the dangerous “Gun-Free School Zone Act,” which virtually guarantees that bloodthirsty criminals will face no opposition should they choose to go on a rampage.

Posted on January 18, 2012 at 6:47amWho REALLY won Iowa?
Report Post »…Now we are being told that the Iowa results “don’t matter.” They matter, regardless of any rent-an-expert who shows up in the press. Misreported results manipulated the candidate field from which the rest of America can choose.
The Des Moines Register is now reporting an even greater malfeasance: that the final, certified Iowa result may “never be known.” There were several typos, they say. Some precincts will never be reported, they claim.
That we got a heads up at all about bogus media results was due to an alert Iowa citizen, Edward True, who captured evidence of the 20-vote misreport in his Appanoose County precinct. That people like Edward True were stationed all over Iowa capturing results before they hit the state Republican Committee tabulation was due to Black Box Voting, where the need to do this was explained, and to radio hosts and sites like Bradblog and Facebook, where the word went out.
Mainstream media then began its next act of theatre: They started spinning the false result that THEY THEMSELVES announced as — instead of their own foolishness — “making Iowa look foolish”…

Speaking of Reagan. here is what he had to say about Dr. Paul
“Ron Paul is one of the outstanding leaders fighting for a stronger national defense. As a former Air Force officer, he knows well the needs of our armed forces, and he always puts them first. We need to keep him fighting for our country.”
– Ronald Reagan
Report Post »Babeuf
Posted on January 18, 2012 at 1:39pmPaul renounced Reagan’s presidential policies. But he appears to have fallen out of love with the party’s hero during year one of his administration. “It didn’t take me more than a month after 1981 to realize there would be no changes,” he told the Christian Science Monitor in 1987, referring to Reagan.
Report Post »In 1987, Paul broke ranks with the GOP, writing to the Republican National Committee: “I have gradually and steadily grown weary of the Republican Party’s efforts to reduce the size of the federal government.” He added: “Ronald Reagan and the Republican Party have given us skyrocketing deficits, and astoundingly doubled national debt.” Paul mentioned Reagan 14 more times as he accused the party of violating the conservative principles of free enterprise, limited government and balanced budgets. He knocked the former president for supporting anti-communist guerrillas, for increasing deficit spending, for expanding the federal payroll and for giving the Internal Revenue Service more power. He even reached back in time to criticize Reagan for his sparse use of the line-item veto as governor of California— which makes us wonder why he endorsed him in 1976. Paul continued disparaging Reagan throughout the 1988 nominating process, telling the L.A. Times at one point that he wanted to “totally disassociate” himself with the two-term president.
Wonder what Reagan would say if he was alive?

In the 90s, he voted to support the Lautenberg Gun Ban, which stripped law-abiding gun owners of their Second Amendment rights for life, simply because they spanked their children.
He voted for a bill in 1999 disguised as an attempt to increase penalties on drug traffickers with guns… but it also included a provision to require federal background checks at gun shows.

Posted on January 18, 2012 at 2:10amRick Santorum will never have my vote, EVER. His history and voting record speak for himself.
Rick wants to start an undeclared, unjustifiable war against Iran in the name of “preventing her from ‘getting a nuclear weapon.’”
He wants to allow the federal government to unconstitutionally ban same-sex marriage.
He voted FIVE times to raise the debt ceiling.
He sent his kids to an expensive “cyber school” in Pennsylvania, at the expense of the Pennsylvanian taxpayers…while residing in Virginia.
He voted legislation that allowed the un-Constitutional U.S. Department of Education to have more power over our already-failing public schools, including the “No Child Left Behind” Act.
He supported George W. Bush’s Medicare Part D, which allowed Big Pharma to socialize its losses at taxpayers’ expense, and when asked about his stance on the right to privacy…
He said “…This right to privacy doesn’t exist in my opinion in the United States Constitution.”
This is more than enough proof that Rick Santorum is a neo-conservative candidate that voters should stay away from…unless they want to vote for more debt, more unjustifiable warfare, and more loss of freedom.

Posted on January 18, 2012 at 4:53amMan, no one wants Iran to have the bomb. The question is whether we believe the hysteria being spewed by the media and politicians. We’ve heard it before. The SAME people that started an undeclared and preemptive war with Iraq because of WMD’s are doing it again. They were wrong before, why blindly trust them now? The idea of Iran having a nuke is truly scary, but we can’t let that fear replace reason. Iran doesn’t have the capability to hit us with a nuke, and God said he’d protect Isreal. Besides, we’re broke, our troops are wary, and we have enough to worry about because we let fear strip us of our liberty. I do believe in American exceptionalism. It’s largely based on our constitution (the greatest ever written) and our freedom. If we lose our freedom and constitutional rights we’re no longer exceptional. We’re just like everyone else.
