Santorum: The ‘Cancer’ of Radical Islam Must be Confronted

Santorum: The Cancer of Radical Islam Must be ConfrontedFor the record, former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum is not an Islamaphobe (whatever that is). In fact, in a recent interview with the Des Moines Register, the GOP presidential candidate made a careful distinction between Muslims and radical jihadists, claiming that the former suffers the most at the hands of the latter.

The Pennsylvanian Republican continued in this vein and took a hard line against radical Islam. He called it a “very dangerous thing” and said that the Islamic world, in conjunction with the U.S., needs “to confront this cancer within,” reports the Register.

Here are edited excerpts of the interview:

Q: You don’t always temper your remarks by saying Islam is a peaceful religion, that it’s nonviolent. Is that something that you believe?

A: Well, I use the modifier radical Islam. I don’t say that all Muslims are radicals; clearly they are not. The folks who are most harmed by radical Islam are Muslims in that region of the world who are living like, for example, in Iran. We have a radical theocracy that is in charge of Iran, and the vast majority of the Iranians, almost all of which are Muslims, are being persecuted and killed by that regime and tortured by that regime and are oppressed by that regime.

Q: A lot of people who are bent on doing the right thing are also very fearful of doing the wrong thing. Is that something that you worry about?

A: No, I’m not a risk-averse person. I really believe that you go out there and you do your best and you try your best to move whatever it is. Whether it is raising your children or coaching your Little League team, you believe, you try to measure the situation, gather all the information and then go out and make a difference. This country is not for the timid of heart.

Q: What do you think is going on in the party that someone like Donald Trump can hold so much influence?

A: Well, I don’t think it’s the party, I just think it’s the nature of the country. We’re a celebrity-driven culture, and he is a celebrity, and … television does that to folks, and people want to hear and are interested in folks like Kim Kardashian for some unknown reason. Why? Because she’s a celebrity. I trust the Iowa caucus-goer they’re not going to be driven by celebrity politics.

Q: When you lost your Senate race in 2006, it was a bad year for Republicans to be sure, but you also lost by 18 points. What happened there?

A: Well, it was a horrible year in Pennsylvania. We lost the governorship by over 20 points. We lost the House of Representatives by historic margins. We had unfortunately two members of Congress in our congressional delegations who were involved in very sordid scandals, one that blew up two weeks before the election. We had a Democratic governor who was very popular and turned out a huge vote in the city of Philadelphia, which is where he’s from. So, it was pretty much a formula for disaster.

Q: You have often been an underdog in the races that you have had. I’m beginning to think personally you like being the underdog, up to a point. Are we past that point now?

A: Oh, no, I don’t think so. I think you realize that folks here in Iowa are still going through the process of making up their minds, and I feel very comfortable that they’re looking at someone who has worked hard here in Iowa, who has made himself available and accountable to the people of Iowa. I feel very good that the momentum is definitely in our favor.

Santorum has been campaigning daily in Iowa since Thursday. He plans to keep barnstorming the state until he takes a break on Christmas Eve to be with his family,” reports the Register.

Given his social and fiscal stances, one may wonder why Sen. Santorum is consistently polling below Newt Gingrich, of all people.

Bachmann has been pushed to the fringes of all the debates unless she makes a mistake. She’s been paying attention to the Tea Party from the beginning and has voted against the bailouts and against Obamacare. She knows her numbers and seems to have a strong footing when it comes to foreign intelligence. She could clobber Obama in a debate like Tyson vs. Holmes if she was allowed to do so. This lady fights for every second of time she’s given by the worthless mindless people pretending to be journalists on that stage. Rick Santorum never gets enough time to speak, but when he does he comes off as whiney. It‘s like he’s reaching for credit on everything he has done, but what else can he do when the media ignores most of the candidates on the stage. The others do it, but are more adept at reminding people of their accomplishments. The ones they fear most and make the most sense are ignored and the puppet loser will be chosen for Obama to beat.

I know Glenn supports Santorum as a candidate, most likely because of his pro-Israeli stance but this guy scares me. This guy is John McCain version 2.0 with but whose agenda is fight off the ailments of homosexuality in the United States. Santorum probably has his head too far up your butt to hear this, but gays are not the biggest problem this country is facing! Fixing the family unit and gay marriage are important issues, but not when this country is inches away from an all out collapse. Maybe his message would resonate with me when our country is completely out of debt and we have 3% unemployment and 8% growth on GDP/year again. But until then, I think we have bigger issues in this country than the Defense of Marriage Act.

We, America, act as if Israel is our 51st state, 58th if you’re Obama. It is not. In fact, our unconditional support of Israel has cost us in lives wealth, and international credibility.

It is not and never has been a religion of peace. Anyone who says then never read their comic book for r e t a r d s called the koran.

A moderate mudslime is simply a mudslime who cheers behind closed doors when the rag heads kill someone. All the dancing in the streets after 9/11 demonstrated to any thinking adult that Is-Slime is a gutter hate cult no better than the KKK.

The stone cold silence from the rest of the rag head world also showed the rest of us, these people are not to be trusted in a civilized world. Is-Slime has brought nothing but death and destruction since its creation by an insane child molester. It has contributed nothing to the human experience except pain and suffering. Still we have the vast majority of politicians all over the world lying about the religion of peace.

Citizens of the world will have to defend themselves if our government do not do their single most important job of protecting us. There are factories of mass destruction all over the world. Mudslimes call them Mosques but they are nothing but human weapons factories.

Glen asks why Newt is ahead, but he only touches on one possible aspect and that‘s that people don’t know or seem to forget about what Newt is and what he has stood for in the past. Why are conservatives polling for Newt? Not just because they are afraid he is maybe the only one that can win, I think the real reason is that Newt is not afraid to attack Obama and his policies. I agree with Rush when he says the reason Newt is doing well is he is going after Obama. If Rick or Michelle or any of the other “conservatives” would stop fighting among each other and really go after Obama and his policies HARD I think you would see a very quick shift in support. Stand the hell up and show the people the difference between what is right for this country and what is wrong for this country not just two different flavors of wrong. Look guys this is just the primary. Stop trying to vote like its the general election. VOTE for who you believe represents your values the most and let the chips fall where they may don’t worry about if “they can win or not” If they don‘t win fine you don’t want Obama vote for the other guy and put your vote against Obama then but don’t throw in the towel now people. NOW is the time to raise your voice to vote for your choice. Stop letting people tell you that you have no hope. “hope deferred makes the heart sick”. At this stage don‘t pick based on who you are told can and can’t win pick the person you really want.

In the Primary one is not running against the other party, the insane notion that you should not attack your other opponents in the Primary, is an artful way of manipulating the people into voting for the candidate that the MS give the most favorable coverage. Notice how unfairly the time is dispensed in the debates. The only way Rick or Michelle get any face time is if they attack, this is by design.

The immigration of ALL muslims must be stopped! Muslims already in our country must be deported and repatriated back to their points of origin! They cannot be trusted! We know the agenda of ISLAM, and ISLAM is our enemy!! And yet our politicians continue to allow muslims to immigrate here! Muslims do not belong in America. Muslims do not DESERVE to be in America! And I put all American politicians on notice right now: That if any of my family or friends are killed or hurt by a murderin’ muslim immigrant / citizen within the borders of America, I will hold them PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE, and I will do that with a vengeance!

Don‘t pull out your gun unless you’re ready to shoot.

The problem with your approach is that there is no way any nation in the West is going to be ready to wage the kind of total war against the Muslim world that would be required to defeat them unless it had been hit with four or more 9/11′s. The Japaneese had to be shocked into surrender. We delicate westerners would have to be simalarly shocked into such iron ruthlessness in war. We haven’t had that kind of steel in the belly since WWII. In Korea we refused to nuke China when they entered the war, even though that would have ended it quickly and decisively, no mere cease-fire as we have now. In Vietnam we ran the war to avoid ugly headlines.

If you want to beat Islam you have to nuke them where it counts. Take out Medina with one strike and then threaten Mecca. Kill their imams wherever they speak out for jihad. You must cripple their religious confidence. Make them doubt that Allah really is on their side. But be ready for massive acts of jihad, and be ready to supress it rithlessly.

Do you think any Western government has the stones to do that?

      Me neither.

Arabic culture and language stemmed from the line of Ishmael and Edom. It is not surprising that the everlasting enemy of Israel would write a book praising what they refer to as God (Allah) and that it is in stark contrast to the Pentateuch and the rest of the Bible.

Santorum is alright but he needs to be more forceful and even a little more “right”. He needs to start calling things as they are and not as the leftwing media wants them to be.

I could go for a Santorum / Paul ticket; as long as it was Rand Paul, Ron’s son and Senator from Kentucky. At least I think Rand & Rick would stand for Israel.

I would go for a Paul/Santorum ticket, as long as Santorum is the VP and has as much responsibility as our current VP, that is, none. Other than gay marriage and legislating morality, this guy is John McCain, Mike Huckabee, and George W. Bush all wrapped into one. He wants to be involved in ten simultaneous wars and still maintain our hundreds of foreign bases while still living in complete ignorance of the fact that we can’t actually afford it as a nation anymore. Not withstanding, this guy is actually proud of the fact he voted for the original Patriot Act. I’ve already lived a large part of my life under George W. Bush, and I’ll be damned if I have to live those years over again through Santorum.

Can anyone name one single way in which the Patriot Act has deprived anyone of actual rights in a way that actually matters. I mean, how has anyone actually FELT the impact of the Patriot Act. We‘ve had it for almost 10 years now and I don’t recal any accounts of actual abuse, of someone having suffered something because of it.

Surely there must be a list of all the awful consequences of this most abusive violation of our Constitutional rights by now. If not, if all the abuses are still only POTENTIAL abuses, that in itself should be noted as quite remarkable; that our government has had a tool for trampling over its citizen‘s rights for 10 years and hasn’t bothered to do it in any noticeable way.

Hey Rick, im pro military too, but were kinda, sorta broke at the moment, if you want to keep these troops deployed all over the world, can you at least get them to write us a check ???? Why should my grandkids pay to defend south korea , japan, Germany, etc…. ? We have missles that can reach anywhere in the world in five minutes from subs and ship and even our homeland….. Im done with us defending the world, or at least im done with us paying for it!!!

There is no such thing as radical Islam. It is only Islam. That term was made up in the West!

BTW, Obama’s lovely symbol he uses is the Rising Sun. If you look on his main page and the 2012 items he is selling you will see that. Look up Rising Sun and Islam. CREEPY. The will will rise in the West….

“Well, I use the modifier radical Islam. I don’t say that all Muslims are radicals; clearly they are not. The folks who are most harmed by radical Islam are Muslims in that region of the world who are living like, for example, in Iran. We have a radical theocracy that is in charge of Iran, and the vast majority of the Iranians, almost all of which are Muslims, are being persecuted and killed by that regime and tortured by that regime and are oppressed by that regime.”

I’ll admit: this is actually a fantastic answer, and rather more tactful than what we usually hear from Santorum. Kudos.

But the over whelming majority aren’t peaceful, if they were, they would demand the radicals stop their crap and that would be the end of the radicals.

It’s a matter of diplomacy that Presidential candidates must take seriously, which Gingrich did not when he spoke “as a historian” about the Palestinians, for which Santorum rightly and gently reminded him in the debate. It feels good to speak the truth and shoot your mouth off, but if it creates more problems than it solves it defeats the purpose.

The fact is that Islam is a violent religion that encourages violence and fanatical reprisals against “offenses” to its honor. People need to speak the truth about this. But it has to be the right people and at the right times because in the Muslim world we are basically dealing with a hostage situation where the hostages takers are insane criminals and the hostages are the peaceful residents of the Muslim world and even the rest of the world where Muslims live and can cause trouble.

Gingrich likes pontificating, and he does it well. But Santorum has shown that he is more interested in excercizing real leadership in a world set with tinderboxes.

“against japan‘s and germany’s right to defend themselves”

How so? Is it that he supports our military presence over there? That wouldn’t be a stand against their RIGHT to defend themselves. It would be a stand against their OBLIGATION to defend themselves. There’s a difference in that.
