Santorum: ‘We Always Need a Jesus Candidate’ to Run for the Presidency

Does America always need a presidential candidate who reflects Jesus’ values? According to comments on Thursday, Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum believes that such a candidate is a necessity.

Santorum, who formerly served as a U.S. senator from Pennsylvania, is campaigning hard on his record as a staunch social conservative. Earlier today, we covered his intense debate with some college students over gay marriage — only one recent example of his willingness to discuss controversial social issues.
On Thursday evening, Santorum took what many may see as yet another major step in his attempt to solidify himself as the best possible candidate for conservative Christians to vote for.
During a question and answer period after speaking to a crowd of more than 600 people at Windham High School in Windham, New Hampshire, Santorum recapped a conversation he apparently had earlier in the day. ABC News has more:
…Santorum told the audience about a radio interview out of Boston he did earlier today.
According to Santorum, the interviewer said, “We don’t need a Jesus candidate, we need an economic candidate.”
“My answer to that,” Santorum added, “was we always need a Jesus candidate.”
“We need someone who believes in something more than themselves and not just the economy,” he added. “When we say, ‘God bless America,’ do we mean it or do we just say it?”
Watch Santorum make these statements, below:
Do you agree — does America need to have contenders who would be considered “Jesus candidates?”

Posted on January 6, 2012 at 3:55pmI can’t imagine the arrogance of Santorum to suggest he is the only one running for President that is a Christian and believes in Jesus. Such a position is the most objectionable issues with “born again” Christians….. the notion that they are better Christians then their peers, their parents or millions of others who go to church on Sunday. We will see how good a Christian Santorum is when he is completely vetted. His unethical notification of a fellow Senator regarding an upcoming investigation is not exactly a feather in his cap.

Posted on January 6, 2012 at 3:56pmThey also want to shove their values down other people’s throats.
People like Santorum ignore the Consitution on innumerable issues, but if they wrap themselves in the flag and point to the worhip of a skygod, some people will always vote for him.
Those of us with I.Q.’s above room temperature are concerned about the monetary system.
We’re concerned about the 10th Amendment.
We want to know where the cuts are from Santorum, Gingrich, and Romney. What trillion dollar cuts have they proposed? What unconstitutional government departments have they marked for elimination?
Why don’t these men reject free markets for public-private partnerships and corporate welfare? Why do they like mandates?
Why do they think that they can ignore the Consitution on issues like marriage, drugs, and abortion? The Constitution gives no power to the federal government on these issues. They are state and local issue. So; why do these people get a pass from identity R’s on the issue of federalism?
I think any of the candidates in the field will beat Obama. That’s just the problem though. They are all statists with the exception of Paul.
Some of you like your statists with an R behind their names rather than a D. It’s not about beating a candidate. It’s about ideas. This R/D nonsense gets us nowhere. Why can’t some of you see this? Are you so brainwashed by the party establishments that you can’t see that they keep the same system in place. It ain’t a choice.

Ron Paul is the ONLY one who has spoken out, and gone AGAINST the “money changers.”

GER I am in support of your accurate accessment / opinion reflecting Christians picking and choosing their belief structure… after all there are over 40 denominations worldwide with 227 churches differentiating basic doctrine whom align their organization as Christian.
However, to call us comical…that’s not constructive. I respect your (assuming) agnostic or atheism choice and will not belittle your decision. I view your choice of such as a spiritual condition based upon that for which you were exposed…I don not convict you with remarks less than your remarks or character would show, why would you do so with me and my fellow Christians? Posted on January 6, 2012 at 7:39pmThe problem with Santorum is, if you’ve ever heard him talk say before his Iowa caucus surge, you may have heard him say that he does NOT like Libertarians or individualism, and told us that “real conservatives” 100 years ago hated capitalism. He is not for limited government at all. He loves big government and believes that the government has a right to intervene into your life; in other words, it is not the scope and size he cares about, it’s about the content and who is running it. Since he’s a good religious guy I guess the Tea Party will have know problem with big government. I can’t believ all the conservative radio hosts, like Rush, Glenn, Hannity, are all on the bandwagon and standing behoind this guy and defending him. It is funny to hear Rush actually say that Santorum is not the Obama style BIG GOVERNMENT, but yet he’s still big government. Glenn used to talk about how we need a limited government and to “question with boldness” all politicians, yet today he was calling Santorum to his face the “next Winston Churchill.” If this was back in the Founders’ day, Santorum would be standing with that weasel Alexander Hamilton and calling for American Empire. He darn sure would be standing ith the politicians and preachers in the North (i.e. Federalists) who wanted a big strong central government whom all, by the way, DESPISED that evil Thomas Jefferson whom they called “Satan” himself!

Posted on January 6, 2012 at 8:06pmSantorum has alienated libertarians, whom he hates, and would have to make up a lot to get their votes. The Republicans would be making a major mistake with this guy, losing all those libertarian votes. Remember Santorum is really a right-wing Progressive. He believes that government has role to play in your life. He is sort of like progressive Teddy Roosevelt who said in the election of 1912, we need to get away from those Jeffersonian ideals of States Rights (i.e., the 9th and 10th Amendments) and have a big powerful central government that will protect you all from those evil big corporations like U.S. Steel and Standard Oil, both of whom made life better for all of America. Roosevelt believed that the era of Jeffersonian “limited” gov’t was over. He was also pro-war and was the one who said we needed to carry a big stick—meaning big Navy, and he wanted us involved in WWI and others because war was good for the economy and society. Really is unbelievable but this is Santorum also who has no problem with an American Empire. I imagine he carries a likeness to another early Progressive, William Jennings Bryan, who believed that government should be used as a conduit for spreading the “Social Gospel.” Yeah, these people had no problem with domestic intervention in people’s lives. I really have to say that if it is Santorum who gets the Republican nod to run against Obama, I would have to either sit home and don’t vote, or vote for the person whom hate the most,

Posted on January 6, 2012 at 9:34pmHere‘s what I don’t get. Jesus spoke often helping the poor. That was important to him, something he encouraged often. But the argument from evangelical Christians now is that He did not mean a county or state or country – any GOVERNMENT – should support their own poor through taxes, because that support for the poor is voluntary. Support for the poor, the argument goes, is an individual, not collective decision. Jesus said you can support the poor or not, that‘s the individual’s choice, but each individual will be held accountable in the end. That’s debatable, but okay.
So what does the “Jesus candidate” say?
- He says that it’s okay if state governments pass laws against sodomy. The government can‘t force you to support the poor because that’s an individual choice, but the government can enact laws telling you what kind of sex is acceptable and whom you may have sex with and whom you can marry.
- The Christ candidate supports penalties against sodomy, but he hasn’t yet come out to support penalties against adultery? Adultery is a sin like sodomy, why no government regulation of that?
Jesus said helping the poor was optional, a matter of the individual choosing to follow His words or ignoring them, at their own risk. Okay. So where’s the idea come from that the government CAN force you to comply with other religious teachings?

Posted on January 7, 2012 at 3:29amWhen you boil the issue down to its primary elements you discover that you cannot effectively legislate a sexual code of conduct. We could not afford to enforce such even if the majority of America was inclined to post such laws to their books. Social conservatism is a great way to be for the individual at their discretion, and by their own choice, but since when was it the inclination of a conservative to force the population through legislation to comply with accepted religious precepts?
We have rights. The job of our Government is to protect those rights, not manage them. Laws should only exist to keep the rights of individuals from being trampled by other individuals or groups.
As to the question regarding the poor. Of course it is a core concept of Christianity to help the helpless. The issue I take with our current system is how much of that responsibility we are assuming belongs to and should be shouldered by the tax payers of this country via their government. Here is where we go awry. I do not believe it is Christian to encourage dependence on the state. It is not Christian to set up a system where in people are taught to wait for the handout instead of accepting the hand up only when necessary. I score no “Heavenly” points by being forced through taxation to fund the most inept “charity” on the planet. The key to our success is our willingness to work, by choice, for our own benefit. Encouraging the opposite is counter-intuitive and so left of correct.

Report Post »As for non-Catholic cults, since you denoted the separation from Catholic, i will assume you are indeed Catholic, and wish to point the hypocrisy in your estimation as a claryvolent of Mr Santorum’s intentions as a President.
The Imperial Edict of the Roman Emperor Theodocius issued at Thessalonica in 380 decreed Catholic Christianity as the sole authority of Christian religion within the empire. This was the initial Edict enacted by Theodosuis I to end the dispute of Arianism while further requiring all Christians of the Roman Empire to sustain the Nicene Creed and be subjective to Catholic Christianity. If common individuals failed to accept the Creed for which Catholic Christianity was founded, their life was discontinued. Bishops and minister as such were exiled or killed depending upon the severity of their protest.
Trinitarianism was of Pagan origin, blended with Christian teachings to satisfy demands for peace amongst Arains and Pagan/ Triest (Trinitarians) by Constantine. This agreed “blend” became the Christian Creed in the Nicea Council 325 and later redefined by Theodocuis in 380.
Why the history lesson?
Before you consider and define what is a cult, who is Christian and why they may not be so, you need to apply equal understanding in judgment toward your religious origin.

Of particular interest, is Brown’s egregious account of the Council of Nicaea of 325. Brown claims that Jesus was regarded as a mere prophet until Nicaea, when council members narrowly voted to declare him divine.
Report Post »Brown is hardly alone in his malicious distortions. A casual Internet survey on Nicaea reveals a grimly fascinating set of assertions, including such “truths” as:
Emperor Constantine summoned the Council of Nicaea in order to impose the Christian faith on the empire; he decided the canon of the Bible when he gathered up all of the sacred writings of the time and threw them onto a large table; the ones that did not roll off onto the palace floor were declared “inspired”; the dogma of the Trinity was settled only by a close vote, with victory achieved by the assassination of several dissenting bishops; the Council ordered removed from the sacred texts—the ones not on the floor, apparently—all references to reincarnation that had been a part of Christian teaching from the beginning. The facts of Nicaea are far removed from the breathless imaginings of Brown and what passes for scholarship in the murkier corners of the Web. In other words, there were no assassinations, no secret plots by power-hungry emperors, and no skeletons hidden from history.

Report Post »Theodosius I, Roman Emperor (also known as Flavius Theodosius), born in Spain, about 346; died at Milan, 17 January, 395. Theodosius is one of the sovereigns by universal consent called Great. He STAMPED OUT the last vestiges of paganism, put an end to the Arian heresy in the empire, pacified the Goths, and reigned as a just and mighty Catholic emperor. His father, Comes Theodosius, was a distinguished general; BOTH HE AND HIS MOTHER Thermantia were Catholics at a time when Arianism was at its strongest. Socrates says that since Theodosius “was a Christian from his parents and professed the faith”. A great part of the emperor’s activity was now spent in establishing the Catholic faith and repressing Arianism. During all his reign Theodosius took severe measures against the surviving remnants of paganism. In 388 a prefect was sent around Egypt, Syria, and Asia Minor for the purpose of destroying temples and breaking up pagan associations. No historical evidence of executions.
The Arian controversy, which had created a major storm in the eastern half of the Roman Empire, was begun by the Egyptian presbyter Arius. This heresy questions the divinity of Christ by suggesting that the Son was a creature.

Posted on January 9, 2012 at 11:14amIf you are trying to connect the massacre at Thessalonica with the sending of the prefect in 388, then you are wrong. Thessalonica was at first a village called Alia, situated not far from Axius, the modern Vardar; it subsequently took the name of Therma, from the thermal springs east and south of it. Theodosius, punished the revolt of its inhabitants (390) by a general massacre in which 7000 were slain. The revolt was an attack on his roman authority, not a pagan uprising.

Ignatius is also responsible for the first known use of the Greek word katholikos (καθολικός), meaning “universal”, “complete” and “whole” to describe the church. It is from the word katholikos (“according to the whole”) that the word catholic comes. When Ignatius wrote the Letter to the Smyrnaeans in about the year 107 and used the word catholic, he used it as if it were a word already in use to describe the Church. This has led many scholars to conclude that the appellation Catholic Church with its ecclesial connotation may have been in use as early as the last quarter of the 1st century.

Rick is protecting the United States from becoming annihilated. To understand this you have to understand the Bible and what it has to say about the Middle East and end times. You need to understand Islam and what their objective is. If we bury our heads in the sand and hope for the best, we will be defeated. It will only be a matter of time. Thank God there are candidates who understand this.

No candidates are more disturbing to me than the ones who try to use Christ to pander to gain votes for themselves. No true Christian should be fooled by such pandering. Ron Paul is a devout, life-long Christian. He doesn’t call himself a “Jesus” candidate or promote himself as the closest to Christ, although I’m very confident in saying that his humble, personal relationship with Christ is more in line with Jesus’ teachings and more pleasing to God.
Also Santorum is what some people call a “cafeteria Catholic”. In other words he picks and chooses which Catholic positions he chooses to follow. For example Santorum agrees with the Church that you shouldn’t use contraception and even believes that states have the right to ban them, however he obviously disagrees with the Church’s Just War Theory that is adamantly against pre-emptive war. He is also pro-life (as am I and as is Ron Paul), however Santorum doesn’t seem to think its wrong to drop bombs on our enemies (even though we all know that Jesus said “love your enemies”) killing women and children. Why should children be safe from abortion but not bombs? As a Christian I find Pauls positions far more consistent with Jesus’ teachings than Santorums self-serving pandering.

Posted on January 6, 2012 at 3:00pmBottom line, if you can’t believe in God and his laws, then you are a person who believes in no laws. To you anything goes regardless on how morally repugnant it might be. I am sorry, I want to live in a society where society through God’s laws and the laws of man determine what is morally repugnant. If you can’t believe in someone higher than you, then you yourself believe you are God.

I agree with Rick Santorum in that he reflects what America used to EXPECT of its political candidates. The ignorant secularists who insist he calls for Theocracy are ignorant of American history ,and blind to the decline brought about by a nation turned from God.We have no future when we will not elect as our leaders just men who will Rule in fear o fGod.
