Sarah McKinley Speaks Out on Interview with Shepard Smith Over New Years Shooting

On Wednesday, The Blaze brought you the incredigle story of Sarah McKinley, the teen mom who made national headlines after shooting and killing one of two armed intruders on New Year’s Eve in an effort to protect herself and her infant son. She phoned 9-11 to report the break-in and to ask if she would be within her right to shoot the intruders. In the end, the brave single mother used 12-gauge shotgun.

The two men showed up at her house, reportedly armed with a hunting knife.

Now, the 18-year-old Oklahoma widow, whose husband tragically passed away on Christmas Day, has spoken out about the incident in an interview with Fox News’ Shepard Smith.

Of the events that have transpired over the past few weeks, McKinley said “I’m in shock. None of it seems real, but I’m trying to deal with it best I can.”

Fox News Insider brings us the entire interview and further details:

McKinley described the scene to Shep saying she knew that it was imperative that she remain calm. She said, “The biggest thing you cannot do in a situation like that, you cannot panic. You have to hold yourself together and I knew that. I knew if I screamed, I would give my position away in the house and I wanted to see him first.”

McKinley said that when the intruders first began knocking on the door of her home, she grabbed her 12 gauge gun, pushed a couch in front of the door, and went into a bedroom with her baby. At that point, she says that she grabbed a pistol, worrying that the 12 gauge wouldn’t fire, as she’s only fired it twice before.

Shortly after she called 911 to report the crime, one of the two intruders busted down the door. When he broke into the home, McKinley saw something shiny in his hand, which she believed to be a pistol. It was, in fact, a hunting knife. The intruder closed the door behind him and when he moved as if to come at McKinley, she fired. He fell over the couch, and his accomplice called 911 to report the shooting.

Police have announced that McKinley will not be charged with any crime.

      If she does not shut up, she is going to be arrested for murder. The State will remove her baby from her home where she has guns. The Democrats are attempting to re-ignite the Gun Control Issue in time for the election and new Gun Confiscation Legislation passing through Congress.

      something tells me there is more to this whole story than what we are seeing. I am careful who I make a hero out of, until I know all the facts.

      Her husband just died on Christmas (she is a teen with a baby), Did he die fighting in Afghanistan, was his death a result of non legal drug activity, did he have a heart attack…?

      Did she know either of the intruders?

      I know very little of this story, but if I was a gambler, I might lay money on the table that meth has something to do with whole deal.

      hmmmm, I did a little google search of this story.

      She is 18 and has a kid. Her husband was 58 (only 40 years older than her) and he died of lung cancer a few weeks back. The dude breaking in was looking for her dead husband’s medication (being he no longer needs it).

      glad she was able to defend herself and baby, but as a NRA member, I do not think we need to shove a whole lot of mics in her face and make her a voice representing the armed citizen.

    Amazing a State with good gun laws, and we have the women and her infant safe. Image same story, in state where you are required to keep you guns locked up…different ending… Image this was in DC..you would have had 2 inturders , one women no gun and a bad ending. support the NRA and second amendment.

    We should all pitch in to get this woman a couple more dogs, a bigger fence, some security screen doors, some rose bushes under her windows, shatter proof glass, new locks, a monitored security system, some cameras, a ton of motion lights and landscape lighting, some more guns, a but load of ammo, several cans of bear mace and a safe room built in her master bedroom! Someone call Extreme Home Makeover to build this girl a new castle! I cant imagine how scared she must be! She was violated and now the whole world knows… I pray that the community comes together to help her through the devistation!

      By now she may have moved to a better, defensible location. Was the 12 gauge a double barrel? It matters because if she cut loose with both barrels on the fool that came in, there was an accomplice that I understand is in jail now. She normally would have been vulnerable during reloading, unless she had another weapon. All the precautions you mention are a sad commentary on our times, but in certain places they do deter many good for nothings from breaking in. Someone may give her a fully automatic shot gun (illegal), in Nam they were effective. Now that could really discourage some low lives from breaking in. Of course there are some fools who would break in just to steal weapons they believe are in the home. It’s somehow comforting to me that many of these are on Boot Hill now, pushing up Daises because of it.

      She is a mama-bear. We had an ole’ ma cat(8#) that landed-right-on-top-of-a-huge dog(40#) that was going after one of her kittens and dug her claws into his back and he yelped and ran as fast as he could and the ma cat hung-on for the ride until the dog was out of the yard. Don‘t mess with the young’uns when mama is around. The young mother kept her cool because she knows how to survive an attack from EVIL!

    There is nothing “weird” about this episode – I’m sure when danger is imminent, your body and mind works without thinking and you do what you know you have to do. That is “self preservation”, not only for herself, but her baby. God bless her for taking the action that she did – a very brave person, indeed.

    And yet, Pres. Barack Hussein Obama is working under the “radar” to sneakily take away our 2nd Amendment so that we will be helpless to defend ourselves – so what are HIS INTENTIONS??
    So should he be charged with treason – he is not upholding our Constitution as he took an oath to do?
    OR is Impeachment the way to go?

      The person she killed was stalking her since her husband died. The 2 men most likely knew the husband, and probably seen an easy target, young greiving mother. Too bad she has to live with the memory, but I do hope that man she shot gets to be Saddam Hussiens roommate in hell. His eternal punishment will be to watch Ishtar everyday and give Saddam foot rubs.

      I suspect that they figured she would be home alone knowing that her husband’s untimely death was probably big news. Figure maybe Rape was more on their adgenda than robbery.
      Maybe the dog was not inside the house or she just got him for additional protection.

      Sad that these two pieces of human debris have now spoiled her holiday season even more for the rest of her life. Bad enough that her husbaned passed on Christmas day and now add News Years and she has a double dose of bad memories from now on.

    Hmm…law abiding person uses gun to subdue criminal and save herself and her child……This story will soon be buried by the gun hating left, because as the lie goes, guns are only good for committing crimes and allowing our benevolent government to keep us unruly citizens in line.
