Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said Sunday she’s “not convinced” Mitt Romney is a true conservative Republicans could trust in the White House.

“Most voters in the GOP, and independents, we will want to see that candidate who we can trust will just inherently, instinctively turn right – always err on the side of conservatism,” Palin said on Fox News Sunday, according to The Hill. “I am not convinced [Romney is that person]. And I don’t think that the majority of GOP and Independent voters are convinced, and that is why you don’t see Romney get over that hump.”

Palin‘s comments came the morning after Romney’s victory in the Maine caucuses and the day after she spoke at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference where Romney also won the presidential straw poll among attendees.

According to Politico, Palin called Romney a “great candidate” but went on to criticize his past.

“I trust that his idea of conservatism is evolving, and I base this on a pretty moderate past that he has had, even in some cases a liberal past,” she told Fox News’ Chris Wallace. “He agreed with mandating on a state level what his constituents needed to be provided, needed to purchase, in the way of health care, and Romneycare which of course was the precursor to Obamneycare — to Obamacare. Now that’s a problem.”

She repeated her previous calls for a protracted primary season, saying it will ultimately produce the best candidate.

“I believe [the candidates are] getting stronger. They’re getting better. That’s what competition provides, and that’s why I want to see the competition continue,” Palin said, according to National Journal.

Addressing the other candidate’s strengths, she said Rick Santorum is “quite bold about social issues” and said Newt Gingrich has an “historical perspective of how America was built.” She did not mention Ron Paul.

She did not detail the candidates’ drawbacks, saying “We already know that the left, and the media allies to the left, are gonna beat up our candidates“ and ”we don’t need to do that job for them.”

Asked about actress Julianne Moore’s portrayal of her in the latest trailer released for HBO’s upcoming film “Game Change,” Palin scoffed.

“I think we’re gonna call that the Sarah Palin employment act and you guys need to thank me for employing more people probably in their imitations of Sarah Palin than the president has put people to work.”

    I’m not convinced that Palin cares about anything other than being on camera and getting paid.

    But, I’m sure she still has her following that love what she has to say, but can’t figure out why she becomes huge and then quits her position as governor and runs around making speeches and jumping on FoxNews.

      I agree 100% with you! First, she is not endorsing…then she goes on to stand behind Newt (and her husband, whoever he thinks he is). Palin is SO full of herself and totally in OVER her head if she thinks she is fighting the GOP establishment (Newt was establishment ). I did hope she could have stayed quiet and help unite the party once we had a candidate….but apparently, she wants to create division.(This is the lady who calls herself a Conservative and ran with a RHINO) Honestly, I am SICK of HER SCREECH …did you hear that screech at CPAC? Romney is best suited to beat Obama in my opinion…our candidate choices are what we have, even if they dont seem good enough for her.The last thing we need is Sarah to create a campaign ad for Obama…. Sarah, you NOW lost credibility….the public made you and the public will bring you down…

Saying she’s not convinced about Romney is just a cover for her absolutely embarrassing “endorsement” of Gingrich. She is a mindless political hack at this point, and isn’t doing ANYTHING good for the conservative movement. She needs to sit down at STHU.

      My, my, how Sarah can bring out the emotions in folks. Real conservatives love her because she expouses the conservative issue, moderate republican hate her because she is too savy to be subsidised by the good ole boy washington crowd, and points to a more fundamental conservatisim, more constitutional platform. Liberals hate her because they hate all intelligent conservative women. They see them as a threat to what they stand for. Her CPAC speech was spot on, any TEA party person can see where she is coming from.
      You liberal are scared to death of her; you can push Romney all you want but that dog won’t hunt. She indorsed Newt, and I still don’t see a reason not to vote for Newt, so what.
      She could step in and take this race away, that is what the libs and “Rinos” fear most.

      I think JEALOUS is a very poor choice of words and apparently someone missed my point.
      If Sarah wants to be a political LEADER and spokesperson…she should not be speaking for one and against others…..the last few weeks this is exactly what she has been doing. Sarah should help to unite the party and not divide it. What is she going to do if her choice is not our nominee? Talk out of the other side of her mouth? You cant have it both ways. It is poor leadership in my opinion.

      @mtncougar — Thanks for sharing Bill Whittles video. It’s unfortunate that the true story has never been covered as thoroughly as the lies and criticisms. Had Palin been running for president instead of McCain, she (we) would have won.

      I finally watched The Undefeated this morning and fell in love with Sarah all over again. I expect we’ll see a lot of her, once we finally decide who to run on the Republican ticket.

      Just to be clear. Todd endorsed Newt. Sarah
      didn’t. She just would have voted for him
      in SC. To endorse somebody you need to
      have guts. To stand behind something you
      believe in that could burn you in the end.
      Much easier to not endorse and then you
      can rip on Mitt or whoever. After all Mrs Palin
      is a paid media personality. Mrs Palin
      wants a brokered convention because she believes
      she can become the nominee. That’s the plan.

      I’m just stating what I see. She gave up her political career by quitting as governor, as simple as that. You’re not going to get elected on a national stage as a quitter, no matter if you were facing stupid lawsuits or not. Now she is making that money and getting on the camera whenever she wants, but never really suggesting anything of substance. People like her because what they believed she stood for, not what she really is at present time. Happens all the time in politics, see also, Herman Cain who came out and supported Newt.

      Sarah enjoys the limelight and the money. No doubt she really believes what she says, but her political career ended with her governorship. She’s just a media figure now. Instead of whinning about whether she thinks Mitt Romney is conservative enough, she should be trying to rally the troops around the one man who is not only likely to win the primary, but also the general election, and who knows how to fix America’s broken economy. Whatever you may think about how Romney handled the left-wing congress in MA, I have seen him in person and on TV saying what he believes in and how he will govern as president. This is the right man for the right job at the right time!!!

      Perhaps JP16 you haven’t considered the FACT that Liberals in Alaska was keeping Alaskan Courts tied up with Ethic charges against Palin that cost them “0” to bring but brought over 1 Million in cost to the Palin Family and even more to the Tax Payer of Alaska. I think She did Alaska a favor. You spin it all you want ; )

      Palin is an appealing personality and not just because of her buxom perkiness and good looks and salmon fishing and hunting and killing animals. She espouses “common sense conservativism.” Although she’s short on details about what that means exactly, we all know what is best for this country is common sense conservativism and fighting communism.

      And she’s smart too, hedging her bets on Romney. She’s not burning her bridges with him, but is chastising him to be more conservative, which is likely sending a tsunami through Romney‘s campaign because they realize he can’t win without the endorsement of Sarah.

      She proved to me that she puts the good of Americans before her own personal good by quitting the governship of Alaska. And before that she was a mayor of a small town in Alaska and didn’t quit besides.

Stand up against Islam/ Take our country back? Then here comes Newt, with movies and speeches about the threat of Islam, Calls obama a marxist on the biggest stage of all, says he will fire obama’s entire staff the first day He balanced the budget with a scorched earth policy that has the old school repubs crapping their pants right now. But our country is overwhelmingly attracted to another stuttering lying narcissistic pig like romney. I give up. I could care less if this moronic country votes Willard/Obama same guy. Croney wall streeter. I wouldn’t be surprised if romney collapses the dollar for a new global currency so all the big bankers can be on the bottom floor when it happens.       I used to believe Sarah Palin was a genuine conservative until she endorsed Newt Gingrich. He is one of the biggest Big Government progressives in the race, there is not a conservative bone in his body. She may have been true at one point but I feel she has been compromised and I no longer trust her.

      Sarah Palin, Rush, Hannity, Levin, and FoxNews are all against Romney. Yes he has spent a lot of money campaigning, but most of it has been fighting against attacks from the people previously mentioned. THE MEDIA IS INFLUENCING OUR VOTE AND IT IS NOT FOR ROMNEY! If it were left up to fair and unbiased reporting and the debates, Romney would have already gained the support of the conservatives. By the way, he is the only candidate to reduce the size of government while in office, he has the most conservative immigration policy, he does not believe in earmarks, he is the only candidate with executive experience, and he is not a DC insider.

      I find it very interesting that Palin is quick to point out Romney‘s flaws but continually glosses over Gingrich’s and Santorum’s flaws. If she is backing one candidate or another she needs to state her agenda. If she is taking aim at non conservative positions, she needs to bring up every ones non conservative postitions. To me, Palin, Hannity, Rush, Levin, and FoxNews are taking a page out of the left’s playbook, and are promoting their candidate without officially endorsing who they want to win, which promotes bias in their reporting. If you do not believe me, listen to their comments about Romney versus everyone else. Don’t be decieved by the media! They have an agenda!

      Thats what Mitt said at CPAC. About 30 times in his speach. He was more conservative than anyone. Mitt is “severely conservative”. No lie I heard him say it.

      So he must be conservative because we know Mitt ( thats not my ad) Romney would never lie!!

      analysis of The Governor’s Speech at CPAC this year. So I am not going to do
      more of the same here. As always, like so many, I watch her speeches over and
      over to try to figure out what it is that makes her tick. Andrew Mlcolm like me
      wonders what it is that makes her connect with the people. Watching that
      speech again and again, I am left more bewildered at the phenomenon that is
      Sarah. So I tried something new with her speech this time around. I watched it
      from beginning to end, with a pen and a note pad, not to make notes of the
      depth of her words or rhetoric, but to note events, atmosphere and symbolisms
      that we have failed to note in the past.

      I lived in Alaska while Sarah Palin was Governor. I have supported her and defended her against critics for several years. Her recent support of the arrogant, adulterer, progressive Gingrich has caused her to lose my support. She saddled up to Newt the progressive right when he was making Saul Alinsky, Marxist attacks on Mitt Romney’s free enterprise Bain experience. She has proven herself to be the moose eating, redneck, bimbo the left has criticized her for being. I guess a pretty face can take you far if you live where most of the people look like the livestock. Like so many others, Sarah Palin is apparently offended by Romney’s goodness and does not like how her family looks in comparison. Goodbye caribou dope.

      I’ve examined Newt’s record over many hours and much review. Newt’s life story shows that he has deeply-held core values.

      This is a man who has looked at his past failings and gone through the painful process of coming to terms with himself to try; who has dedicated himself to trying always to become a better man.

      And I’m saying that Newt is a man who has dedicated his life to trying to understand how a great nation can keep itself strong, prosperous and safe, and how that nation might be a beacon of hope to others in other nations in this sometimes terrible world.

      Newt is the man with the plan, and you are utterly, but utterly, clueless about that.

      You prefer Santorum or Romney. Ok. No problem. But don’t try to shore up your preference as some moral choice on your part.

      You don’t have the tiniest clue what Newt is all about. You haven’t bothered to inform yourself. And you show it every time you or someone else post one of these ad hominem attacks.

      I hear you. Sarah palin has perplexed me the last two months. Why is she supprting Gingrich instead of Santorum? Now that’s a problem.” She neglects to mention that Gingrich was for the individual mandate before there was Romneycare and that Newt was for the individual mandate after Obama took office. At least Romney wasn’t violating any Constitutional provision with Ronmeycare — but Newt was urging the unconstitutional individual mandate at the Federal level. If Sarah really thinks that closeness to Obamacare is “a problem” (and it IS!), then why is she urging people to vote for the one candidate who is closest to Obamacare??

      I could not agree with you more. Palin, Hannity, Rush, Levin, and FoxNews all have an agenda which does not make sense with their vehement disdain of Romney. Palin, Hannity, Rush, Levin, and FoxNews bash Romney for Romneycare, but conveniently forget about Gingrich’s involvement and support! Gingrich is the most liberal progressive candidate running for president besides maybe Obama. There is plenty of audio/ video of him stating his case for being a big government progressive, but none of these folks will not discuss the proof. It is always Romney….Romney…. Romney as the liberal, when there is no mention of Gingrich.

      I am convinced the conservative media has an agenda! They are promoting their opinion instead of the facts.

However, all we have to judge him by is his past actions, and they don’t meet my expectations for a leader.     Unfortunately I have an “anybody but Obama” mentality this year. I’m tired of the gridlock and tired of nothing seeming to get done. No matter who get’s elected, he’s going to have to work with Congress. I’m sorry Sarah..I respect your opinion and appreciate what you’ve done for the conservative movement, but feel Mitt Romney is the best to do this. I just pray I’ve made the right decision.

      Romney placed 800 vetos against the 85% controlled Demoncratic legislature in MA. If Romney would have sat back and done nothing and let the Demoncrats take over the MA healthcare bill, MA would have ended up with a single payer government run healthcare program that would have affected 100% of MA citizens verses just 8% of the uninsured.

      Instead Romney injected himself into the writing of the bill by consulting with the Conservative Heritage foundation to come up with the solution of only addressing the 8% of the uninsured deadbeats which in turn forced them to buy PRIVATE insurance.

      I think Sarah Palin is great! I wonder if she is under some pressure to support Romney and does not want to. I do believe she wants to see more debate, and not let the nomination go to one candidate after only a few caucuses/primaries. At first I thought there were too many debates, but then, as we saw more debates we saw more and more about each person, even though they seemed to be saying the same things most of the time…nuances of strengths and weaknesses began to creep into the debates pictures. Now we know alot more than we did in the first few debates. I want to see more debates, caucuses and primaries before we come to a decision, even if that decision is a brokered convention. And Sarah, stick to your principles and come out for whomever you think is best. For me, that person is Rick Santorum. If that person is Rick for Sarah, that would really shake things up.

      To comment on your points one by one:
      1) Newt and Callista have a “partnership” marriage and Newt has also found and “committed himself” to God. That in and of itself will help keep him grounded with his commitment to Callista.
      2) Newt IS a historian. And in a capitalistic society should be able to use his knowledge to earn a living. He was not a lobbyist.
      3) Newt hit back at Romney’s attacks and LIES. If you were being punched in the face I would assume that eventually you would eventually take a swing or two back to defend yourself. He hasn’t attacked Santorum or Paul because neither of them have come out with slime attacks like Mitt.
      4) I haven’t seen anything that would convince me that Mitt is better in this area that Newt … I don’t think this is the area Mitt can win on even if it is a little muddled for Newt. Bottom line though, Newt has conservative values.
      5) Yeah … whatever.
      6) Name calling? Really? I would vote for this conservative “little troll” before I would ever vote for your very “plastic” little Ken doll who has no conservative core.
      7) She has stated that she wants our candidate vetted…unlike Obama. I have gained a lot of knowledge out of this stretched out process and hope to gain more in the future.
      8) So … maybe you should look into the various options for mental wards. Sounds like if anyone but your beloved Mitt wins this nomination, you may need a few padded walls.

      So the GOP wants to nominate a preacher verses someone who can lead and turn the economy around and reduce the role and size of government.     I’m sure Obama is cheering Ms. Palin on as the more Repubs damage the candidates still in the race, the more they give Obama the fuel to attack the future party nominee! Palin has been silent and silence is what she needs to now embrace as most Repubs don’t give a hoot what she has to say! I didn‘t listen to her speech as I don’t really care what she has to say! Most dems are laughing their heads off watching the stupidity we see coming from the wannabes who are sitting on the sidelines doing squat but supporting the candidate that seems to be at the forefront! Palin was happy to be running with McCain who is a total waste and a RINO of the worst kind!     Why, when people think of Rick Santorum, do they first think of “social issues”? The first thing I think of when I think of him is his strength on foreign policy, then the other (also important) issues, including social. If one looks just at forte’s in the candidates, above and beyond conservatism, (such as economic for Ron Paul), I see foreign policy as Rick’s forte.

      I want to see Rickie’s tax returns because it will show that he is no ordinary Joe. It will show that he is making millions by lobbying big government and I am also quite curious as to what this man contributes to charity. Santorum holds himself up to be the second coming of Christ…so I want to see if he lives up to his Christian values. Newty and the right opened up this can of worms against Romney so little Ricky should be subjected to the same scrutiny as Romney……or does little Ricky get a pass because he is not a Mormon.

      Being the geezer that I am, I don‘t trust anyone that isn’t smarter than I am. If I want to excell in whatever I’m doing, I have to compete against someone better than I am. Sarah is that person. I also disagree with a few things she says, however, listening to her, improves my knowledge. I have doubts about the candidates. Bachmann is also above me. Things will change many times before voting day. Jumping to conclusions leads to an incorrect decision. I was lucky to have lived in America. My hope is that I help you be that fortunate. If not, get a nice prayer rug. It has to be used 5 times a day, wether you want to or not.

Well, Bachmann and Palin may have pretty faces and good figures, and they may play the “Mom” care real well, but Bachmann is crazier than bat guano and Palin is an idiot and a quitter. Bachmann doesn’t have a single piece of legislation to her credit in a Republican controlled house and Palin thought that Africa was a single country, not a continent and she couldn’t even be bothered to finish the term she was elected to.
