Comedian Sarah Silverman on ‘Quickie Aborsh’ Tweet: ‘It Wasn’t Funny’

Comedian Sarah Silverman has now said her joking tweets about abortion last week were not funny.

She first posted a photo of herself with an inflated stomach and the words, “It’s a burrito!” early Thursday. She followed it up minutes later with another photo showing her with a flat stomach and the caption, “Got a quickie aborsh in case R v W gets overturned.”
“It wasn’t funny for me to talk so casually about abortion. But when they take our right to choose away it will be HILARIOUS!” Silverman tweeted Tuesday evening.
In a subsequent post she added: “The government should STAY OUT of our PRIVATE LIVES except when it comes to who we marry & what we do w our uteruses!!”
Silverman’s original tweets were still visible on her Twitter profile Wednesday afternoon.

I don’t advocate banning abortion, but these people have an absurd value system that promotes a culture of reckless behavior in the name of women’s rights.

Posted on April 18, 2012 at 9:47pmAs a rule, I don’t think Abortion in general should be illegal, because there are some legitimate reasons to have one. However I have a MAJOR problem with purely elective abortions. That in my opinion is no better than murder, and worse, it’s for nothing more than your own convenience. Pro-Choice in this case is a misnomer, because the choice was made when you decided to have sex, whether you intended to become pregnant or not. That’s part of the consequence of sex, a consequence of which we are all aware. There is no moral justification for ending an innocent life purely for your convenience.

In other words, it is just an inanimate lump of cells in a woman’s uterus when she is pregnant. When does the lump of cells become a baby? If there is a baby in a women’s uterus, wouldn‘t that cease to be a woman’s choice and become a murder?
The other possibility is that she thinks the the government should stay out of women’s private lives and let them choose to murder their own children.

The government should stay out of our lives regarding taxes, regarding food stamps, regarding military service, regarding voting, regarding education, regarding legislation and disaster aid, but it should have a role in our lives when we chose spouses or birth control? So, you are advocating that the government chose your spouse? I hope she’s not some criminal or alcoholic guy that hates women. If she or he is, well, then too bad.
Oh, yeah, and the government will let you know how many children you’ll be having, if they decide to let you have any at all.

If you want an abortion, it’s between you and your god (whether it be a rock or the government)–but you have no right to demand others pay for it and you have no right to act surprised at the outrage of late term and partial birth abortions. Partial birth abortions are flat out murder, and rails against your b.s. argument that it is just a fetus.

Even her twittery after being excoriated for her non-chalant approach to abortion isn’t funny. It’s frat boy level schlock.
