Sarkozy Loses French Presidential Election to Socialist Francois Hollande

Socialist Francois Hollande won France's presidential election Sunday, defeating conservative incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy (AP)

PARIS (AP) — Socialist Francois Hollande defeated conservative incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy on Sunday to become France’s next president, heralding a change in how Europe tackles its debt crisis and how France flexes its military and diplomatic muscle around the world.

Sarkozy conceded defeat minutes after the polls closed, saying he had called Hollande to wish him “good luck” as the country’s new leader.

Exuberant crowds filled the Place de la Bastille, the iconic plaza of the French Revolution, to celebrate Hollande’s victory. He will be France’s first leftist chief of state since Francois Mitterrand was president from 1981 to 1995.

Sarkozy thanked his supporters and said he did his best to win a second term, despite widespread anger at his handling of the economy.

“I take responsibility … for the defeat,” he said.

Hollande’s former partner and mother of his four children, Segolene Royal, said she has a “feeling of profound joy to see millions and millions of French renew the tie to the left.”

“The French can be confident,” she said on France-2 television. “We will need everyone to help the country recover.” Royal faced off Sarkozy in the 2007 election.

Partial official results, with about half of the nationwide votes counted, showed Hollande with 50.8 percent compared to 49.2 percent for Sarkozy. The CSA, TNS-Sofres and Ipsos polling agencies predicted that Hollande will win with 51.8 percent to 53 percent, compared with 47 percent to 48.2 percent for Sarkozy. They made projections based on the vote count at select voting stations around the country.

Hollande wants to renegotiate a hard-won European treaty on budget cuts that Germany’s Angela Merkel and Sarkozy had championed. He wants more government stimulus, and more government spending in general despite concerns from markets that France needs to urgently trim its huge debts.

The election outcome could also have an impact on how long French troops stay in Afghanistan and how France exercises its military and diplomatic muscle around the world.

      With 4 or 5 million Muslims in France.(the largest number on that continent..with something like 8.1 Muslims being born to France’s 1.8 (closer to the EPA standard for homeland natives) so they more than likely will become fully Islamic….Wow.. Islam is achieving its goals to overcome the world quite quickly really through immigratio, population explosion with mulitple wives. and conversion .In the US the Muslim population has nearly tripled in the last decade.. So much to look forward too..

      This is a sad day for France. Little do the very naive young adults know what communism really is. They are about to find out because they just voted communism in.
      When will we learn? Hollande has promised the world to them and they took the bait hook, line and sinker. Sound familar? There is absolutley no way Hollande can keep his campaign promises. Sound Familar? France is now going down that european very slippery slope with no chance of recovery.
      If we continue to go down the same road as France and continue to move “FORWARD” with our current President then you may as well take the stars, the stripes, the white and the blue from our flag, hang it up and call it a communist day .

Still remember the lst time hearing the Russian Anthem on Glenn’s show many years ago and I remember saying, “Oh Crap”! Now look how far we have come…the light is dimming from Lady Liberty and we are going into a darkness the world has never known because there will be NO turning back. The ones in control of the masses don’t give a flying crap…just as long as they can “feather-their-nests” and survive.       This is not going to end well. I really fear for France’s very survival. Half (slightly more) of Europe, led by Germany, is moving towards sanity, with budget cuts and reduced spending… the other half now led by France wants to go the Obamanomics route.

      Odds are this ends in war, best case scenario, millions die of starvation. Germany you had better get your military bulked up.

      I do not at all understand the Jews out of Europe and other counties, thing.
      I look at the record of the jewish people in modern times, all the advance they make in Tech and science, it seems like counties and governments would be fighting each other to have jews in their country, it seems they do things well. ( I am not jewish ) I think i could also say the same thing about people from Japan, a plus for any country. But instead they bring in muslims and africans who add very little, or nothing to the every country they live in, if not outright try to destroy them. Its a wonder to me, i just do not understand it. If you say it for Humanity, maybe in the 1950‘s and 1960’s but i do not buy that reason anymore. Because of the way the muslims and africans act to the country and people they are living in.

The Nazis hated Socialism almost as much as they hated the Jews. In Mein Kampf Hitler accused Social Democrat politicians of treason for signing the Versailles Treaty. Also, look up the Nazi term Judeo Bolshevism.
      2. Nazism didn’t even exist during the 1st World War. Kaiser Wilhelm II was in charge at the time.

      Sorry to destroy the entire premise of your argument, but Hollande isn’t a communist, he’s the leader of the French Socialist Party.

      Two parties with communist leaning ideologies were involved in the election: Left Front with their candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon and Workers’ Struggle with Nathalie Arthaud as their candidate, getting 11.1 % and 0.56% of the votes respectively in the first round of the presidential elections.

      Sounds to me like you need to travel the world a little, broaden your mind, and get some first hand experience of interaction with other cultures….that would probably dampen your paranoia a little.

    The bigger surprise with France is that Sarkozy was ever elected to begin with. While he had his faults (as we all do), France was finally on the right path under his leadership.       France got rid of Jacques Chirac in ‘07 because his socialist style of government was making a financial mess of the country. Nicolas Sarkozy was already known for his underhanded tactics before he was elected, but his administration did get a turn around started. Guess the French decided they were happier the other way around after all.

      Let’s just say you are serious. After the wealthy elite have been taxed out of existence who will pay for all the entitlements over there? More than half of France already lives off of government entitlements. Just because you have money doesn’t mean your evil. Did it ever occur to you that some people are poor just because they are lazy. Basic communist talking points will get you nowhere in life.       Look not supporting Romney isnt Marxist. Its following the Constitution. If you really think Romney will protect the Constitution how can you explain his support of the NDAA and the Patriot Act? If anything support of those bills are Marxist like.

      I believe our most pressing issue is our spending and debt. Is putting out a budget that doesnt cut one cent from current spending levels more like the Constitution or more like Marxism?

      Answer those questions honestly and you will see Romney is far closer to Marxism than I am.

    My condolences to those who TRIED to keep France on the right track (ooooops – those French sure do LOVE the fantasy of the “free ride”, don’t they?).     Is saving the Republic worth a $1.00 investment? Hollywood’s George Clooney is having a fundraiser for obama and it’s estimated to bring in 12 million dollars. If we all sent Mitt Romney $1.00 (12 million of us) to offset Hollywood it would tell them that we support our candidate. If we gave up one cup of coffee (McDonalds coffee for $1) we could do this.… last time around there were millions in donations coming from undisclosed sources for obama’s election and look what happened. Those of us that are not sold on Mitt Romney need to reconsider what 2013 will look like. If you are discouraged with the state of the country today, we ain’t seen nothing yet…… I cannot stand seeing that man’s face on TV, which is way too often, if he gets re-elected we’ll be forced to have huge monuments made in his honor and our children will be forced to sing his praises….
    When you vote think: President Romney or the alternative.
    Hollywood is rich because you and I pay their salary by going to their movies and they can afford to give millions but the regular Joes, the American People, We the People could make a more powerful statement with, one person, one dollar.
