Sarkozy Wants EU Consensus on Palestinian Statehood

Sarkozy Wants EU Consensus on PA Statehood

French President Nicolas Sarkozy is calling for a unified European voice regarding the Palestinian Authority’s bid for statehood at the United Nations in September.

“The role of the US is uncontested and irreplaceable, but everybody sees that it is not enough,” Sarkozy said. “We have to widen the circle of negotiation, think of the role and the pertinence of the Quartet.”

Sarkozy noted that while the “Arab Spring” brings with it great changes in the region, the world cannot continue to defer addressing the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

Israel National News reports that, to now, most EU countries have refrained from committing on how they would vote on the resolution, saying it would depend on the verbiage and details of the resolution itself.

With a view to discussing the issues, EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton has scheduled an informal meeting of the EU’s 27 foreign ministers on September 2.

INN adds:

Sarkozy’s comments have been criticized by some commentators as being driven by a desire for Arab trade – and to silence nations who dissent from his views – rather than principle, amid fears that France’s triple-A credit rating could come under threat if the European sovereign debt crisis worsens.

The European Parliament’s International trade committee voted 27-0 to fully open markets to farm and fish products from PA enclaves in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza. The vote paved the way for full parliamentary approval for a deal later this year.

“This deal is enormously important. It gives more power to the Palestinians to trade directly with the EU. And it’s a signal of good will from the international community that comes at an important time,” said Maria Eleni Koppa, a Greek socialist lawmaker who led the committee’s discussion on the issue.

The full European Parliament is due to vote on the trade agreement in late September.

As part of an economic agreement between Israel and the European Union (EU) to avoid total boycotting, labels distinguish between products made in pre-1967 Israel and products made in parts of Israel liberated during the Six Day War. Products made by Jews in Judea and Samaria are subject to higher tariffs.

INN notes that while the trade agreement will likely be approved, Sarkozy’s desire for consensus on Palestinian statehood among the vastly differing member nations may prove untenable.

No one even on here is against forming a Palestinian State, they deserve a country as everyone does, but what we object too, iis doing it at the expense of the Jewish People and taking their land and not protecting Israel, and allowing the Arab’s to kill, degrade and hold Israel in a state of terrorist attacks that no one seems to condem anymore.

Our greatest fiends, Israel, was always protected by us until King Obama decided to change our history and start the road to breaking Israel. I know the Bible speaks and tells us these things would happen but it’s just horrible seeing it happen in our time and before our eyes, and from our very own President.

Israel was formed at the expense of the Palestinian people by Jews from Europe and the United States. Jews brought modern day terrorism to Palestine. Before Hezbollah, Hamas, and al Qaeda there were the Stern Gang, Irgun and Haganah. Before there was a Daniel Pearl, there was a Mervyn Paice and Clifford Martin. Before there was the Beirut barracks bombing, there was the bombing of the King David Hotel.
A lack of knowledge concerning the history of Palestine is no excuse for supporting the cousin of Nazism… Zionism.

How far back are you willing to blow, BLOWBACK?

I agree. Everybody should look into the history of this land. Go ALL the way back, and come ALL the way forward. Then look at the politics and culture in Israel and and its neighbors. What is life like for Arabs in Israel, inSyria, in Egypt, and elsewhere in the region.

Don’t just listen to bits and pieces from people like BLOWBACK.
Use your computer. Research and learn. Why not start with “Haganah.” See what you think.

The “Palestinians”, a hodge podge of mostly Jordanians, a very few Egyptians, and some Syrian folks could have had a country carved out of Jordan, just as the contested territories were carved out of Jordan. If the world leaders had just started at Ramallah and worked a deal with Jordan for the downslope border area you hit on the highway coming out of Amman, just before the Israeli border, then the “Palestinians” would be living in a bigger nation than they can get now and we wouldn’t be talking about this. The original problem is still with us today, no Arab country wants the “Palestinians” living next door to them. Besides, going after Israel keeps recruits and money coming.

“Boycott Israel” seems to be a key word or talking point with those who favor the creation of the Palestinian State; which first appeared at the Norweigen indoctrination camp with banners that read “boycott Israel” in Norweigen. The EU, UN, and the Global Media plan to isolate Israel!

So I wonder what part of France does he intend to give the Palestinians for their state. Will it include the Island of Ile de Notre Dame for a commemorative mosque?

All nations will come against Israel before the tribulation, that includes the USA. Which will unfortunately lead to our demise as a nation. I tremble over the implications of this vote. I want to see prophecy fulfilled, but I grieve for the many who have not repented and turned to Jesus Christ for salvation. The time is running out to share the gospel. Go therefore….

I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled and the women ravished, and half the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city. Zech 14.

Behold I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the seige both against Judah and against Israel. Zech 12

And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all the people: All that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it. Zech 12.

I see many nations today being cut to pieces. Those nations have all moved against Israel and in support of the Palestinian State. Watch for calamity to befall the EU because of this statement. France esp.

USA is headed for another Hurricane…(((KATIA Cometh!))). We have much to lose and much to repent for so our judgment will be very harsh.

I predict a third one after Katia and all told a total of three hitting the EAST COAST of USA one after another. I see the earthquake at the ready and in the midst of their pain, the earth will shake under their feet with great force. They will cry out to God for forgiveness and mercy but none will be given.

Sarkozy is up for re-election in 2012. There is a huge North African/ Muslim population in France. Yes, he is a shrewd politician.
      Yes, he’s thinking economics.
      No, he’s not a socialist.
No, he does not get along with Obama. ( He saw through him even before he was elected.)
      No, he is not anti-capitalist.
Yes, he shrewdly sends over potential political opponents to head the IMF. ; )
      No, he is not evil.

France needs Sarkozy over any other presidential candidate to help pull her out of the socialist swamp she is in. Given the candidate pool in France, a conservative Christian would vote Sarkozy.

A good test for evil is to study how a person or group is treating the individual’s rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of a better life. That means everyone, not just ‘believers’.

It is important to take a stand against evil. I stand with Israel. The EU would be wise to do the same.

I’ve no issue w/ Palestinian statehood. They had a state before the re-creation of the Israeli state. I believe in a two State solution – as long as they come to a common & peaceful agreement.

There’s no reason that the two can’t co-exist if they choose to.

Nowhere in the Bible does it say “the surveyors line of demarcation must be from geo-coordinate xxxx to geo-coord yyyy to geo-coord zzzz, etc.”

I pray for a way to allow both to co-exist in peace.

Ron, there has NEVER been a Palestinian State, EVER in the history of the World. The “Palestinians” are merely extremist Islamics, who’s only desire is to exterminate every Jew from Earth. I am not a Jewish person. I am a Roman Catholic, yet I stand with Israel. Why? Well because Jesus Christ was born a Jewish man. Another thing is that, no Jewish person has ever threatened me with death, if I didn’t convert to Judaism.

Diane is right that there has never been an explicitly Palestinian state. However, there is such a thing as a Palestinian people, quite distinct from any extremist Islamist elements among them. They have been used as pawns by the Arab states and by some of their own leaders, as well as suffering under Israeli occupation since 1967. They are not Jordanian, Syrian, Egyptian, Lebanese, or anything but proudly “Palestinian.” Their recent history has made them such, and it’s no use wishing them away. Even if they were driven altogether from the land west of the Jordan, they would probably keep its memory alive in diaspora, just as the Jews did for 2000 years. I say this as a friend of Israel, not an enemy.

Eze 37:12 therefore prophesy and say unto them. Thus saith the Lord God; behold, O my people, I will open your graves and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel.
Eze 37-22 and I will make them one nation in the land in the land upon the mountains of Israel and one king shall be king of them all: and they shall no more be two nations, neither shall try be divided into two kingdoms any more at all.

Nowhere in the bible do we read that the land should be divided and shared with the palistinians.

Prepare to be disappointed, the UN will find a way to make this happen….they don’t want the violence that would happen if the bid was denied. They will find a loophole that makes the US vote all but irrelevant. Trouble is brewing…..sign of the times.

God is displayed to us through the meek and mild. This tiny sliver of land is all God has asked us for but we give it no quarter because therein is proclaimed the power of his people, his word, his mighty hand that moved upon a people to bring them back into the land and cause it to bloom. He is the God of judgement and no man can stand his gaze without the merciful blood of Christ on the door posts of his heart.
