Russian Police Arrest Gay Activists After Pride Parade Attempt

MOSCOW (The Blaze/AP) — Gay activists tried to stage two demonstrations in Moscow on Sunday to demand the right to hold a gay pride parade in the Russian capital, but they were blocked first by Orthodox Christian opponents and then by police, who detained a total of about 40 people from both sides.

The gay activists first gathered outside the city council building, where a few scuffles occurred as their opponents tried to disrupt the demonstration, decrying homosexuality as a sin. After police broke up that protest, another group tried to stage a second protest at city hall, but once again police moved in and detained participants, including prominent gay rights activist Nikolai Alexeyev.

The majority of those detained were gay activists, but some of the Christian demonstrators also were pushed into police buses. Police said about 40 people were detained in all.

Homosexuality was decriminalized in Russia in 1993, but anti-gay sentiment remains strong.

Activists have long petitioned the Moscow government for permission to stage such a parade, but have always been denied. Former Mayor Yuri Luzhkov described gay parades as “satanic,” while current Mayor Sergei Sobyanin has said he disapproves of gay gatherings because they could offend the religious beliefs of many Russians.

Gay activist Galina Kaptur criticized city authorities for treating homosexuality as a contagious disease that would be spread through society if gays were allowed to hold a parade.

“It’s as if they thought that if all left-handed people held a parade, then afterward everyone would become left-handed,” Kaptur said. “This is wrong.”

Among the opponents of gay rights was Dmitry Tsarionov, who spoke to the crowd in front of a sign that said “Moscow is not Sodom.”

“I will not allow perverts to bring the wrath of God onto our city,” he said. “I want our children to live in a country where a sin that so awfully distorts human nature is not preached in schools.”

This month, Alexeyev became the first person convicted under a new law in St. Petersburg, Russia’s second-largest city, which makes it a crime to spread “gay propaganda” among minors. Alexeyev was charged after he picketed St. Petersburg’s city hall with a placard that said “homosexuality is not a perversion.” He was fined 5,000 rubles (about $170).

The Russian parliament is considering extending the measure nationwide, which gay activists say would make it even easier to ban their public demonstrations.

      No in America our politicians do exactly what AIPAC tells them to do and homosexuality is AOK with AIPAC therefore the push for gay pride all across once Christian America.

      On the other hand Russia has told IPAC where and what they can do.. They are trying to live a decent Christian life over in Russia without the heavy influence of the bankster gangsters and all of their perverted ways… I like the way they roll in Russia today.. Now back when the Jews were in charge in Russia they slaughtered some 40 million but it’s obvious that they have been showed the door.. Hence all of the anti Russian propaganda from FOX News, Bloomberg, AP, Reuters etc.. Just like they did when Germany demanded their freedom from these evildoers.. They smear you in their Media if you desire to be free of their perverted tyranny! And sooner or later they will warp the minds of their hosts to such a degree with their propaganda they will have their host country demanding War against “their” enemies.. Now that’s the way they roll. Sickening!

      Be it known in Russia today they are teaching Bible courses in their schools.. They invite misssions into their country because they realize the value of it while in America Christianity is becoming criminalized by of course you know who.. Beck and his Zombies like to call them Progressives but wise people know that they are simply Jews… Isn’t that right Mr. “Rodeo Clown!”

      Who in their right mind would want to have a parade to show pride in being a freak or a mental case?

      Let me explain: If it is agreed….as homosexual activists claim….that homosexuals are “born that way,” then unequivocally that is an admission that homosexuality is a freakish condition of nature, because the condition amounts to an anomaly from the norm.

      And, if it is agreed that homosexuality is a mental disorder, then the condition involves a mental illness.

      So, who in their right mind would want to have a parade to show pride in being a freak or a mental case?

      The gay thing is actually irrelevent here. The only christianity now permitted in the new Russian police state is Russian Orthodox. The Russian Orthodox church, the State police, under both the czarist and the Communist dictatorships persecuted everyone that they thought would dissent from the “party line.” The Russians even beat Hitler in cheap extermination camps…they just trucked them to Siberia, fed them nothing, worked them to death, and put the bodies out on the frozen tundra/tiaga to be wolf food. Stalin’s genocide alone was pegged at about 30-40 million.

      So its not surpising that the “new” Russians under Putin are doing the same stuff. In retrospect, there isn’t much difference whether some one is being beat to death by an Muslim for Shiria or a proto communist/police state police thug.

      Tactics are tactics…that’s why I would rather live in a Free place like the USA…where this kind of crap does not exist… Opps…forgot, under Bush 2 and Comrade Obama…we now meet the classical definition of a fascist police state now. Its just politically correct tyranny…. Kind of gives that warm fuzzy all over as they are politely executing your for your dissent from the new party line.

    It is sad that the church in America will not stand up to the gay parades here. The state church of Russia should not be an example to any of us. However the christians standing against the filth that is displayed in gay parades are correct. America is suffering because we allow open homosexuality and we abort tens of thousands of children a year. We have Obama because we deserve Obama. We are not going to have a godly leader this election because we are not a godly nation. How can we expect Divine protection like we used to enjoy, when we have abandoned our Lord Jesus, and we worship the almighty dollar? The nation of Israel was destroyed by Gods command because they abandoned Him. We will recieve the same end if we do not repent!!!

      @Jezreel – I disagree. I think Christians should be very active in determining who leads us. It’s also our reponsibility to spreadc the word of Christ and to teach people HOW to pray. We have failed this generation and it’s our fault. THAT is why we are being judged. I would prefer to put off JUDGEMENT as the loner it gets put off the more babies are born for GOD.

The darker side of human nature needs a moral compass to contain its tendency to do what is harmful. That moral compass generally has been religion. Communism demands the masses worship the collective, not God or a higher power. So to eradicate the truth that immorality is harmful and eliminate religious beliefs, Communism rewards sin, (sin is really doing anything that harms the mind, body, or soul or one is complicit in encouraging others to harm their minds, bodies, and souls) thus giving the sinner what they want-permission to sin and rewards for committing sins.

      Actually we could (sort of) do that here. The problem is, there are too many people who are “closet opposed” and won’t come out. They are not for gay rights, but they will say they are, just to keep the liberals off their back.

      If enough anti-gay people were to peacefully march, gather, whatever, more people will join. There is only a small percentage of gays in the U.S. and a small percent that support them. Yet they let themselves be heard. The opposing view does not take the steps to make themselves heard, so … this is what we have, nothing.

      What a terrible thought. And ironic given this year is Alan Turings 100th birthday. Turing, father of computer science. You could not write this message for the world to see without him. Turing, key to the UK code breaking efforts in WWII. Germany might have overrun England were it not for Turing. Turing, a hero and a genius, who was castrated and committed suicide in 1944 because it was against the law to have gay sex, and who helped save the world from a regime that murdered men who had gay sex.

      Thankfully many people have become more humane since then. But also thankfully, the marvelous world of computers and the internet lets us see that people like you still exist. All too willing to dehumanize and round up people who do things you consider unseemly.

      I dont care if you dont like gays. You can choose to dislike whoever you want. You can choose to do no commerce with them. You can choose to bar them from private places you own. You can choose to avoid them wherever they are.

      As for the over-the-top pronouncements made on the internet: I wonder (1) how often the people making the statements actually believe what they state and (2) whether they would actually say it to anyone’s face (as opposed to the faceless Internet).

      Oh, another bit of WWII related history: do you know who Ernst Rhoem was? He was the head of the Nazi Sturm Abteilung (SA or “Brownshirts”). He was also a homosexual. A lot of the Brownshirt leadership was homosexual. Many folks don’t know that.

      This convergence has been going on for decades. Russia has been moving in the direction of Free Market Capitalism while the United States has been moving in the opposite direction away from Capitalism toward a Command Economy. The same goes for the position of religion in our society. In Russia the Orthodox Church’s role has increased, while in the US the movement is toward pushing the Church (Christian) out of the society.

    America is a prime example of what happens when sin is tolerated and accepted. God made the rules and we are expected to follow them. Homosexuality is nothing to be prideful about but we have let them become a powerful political force in this country and we were wrong.
