Saudi Arabian Girls‘ School Investigated for ’Illegal’ Sports

An “illegal” sports tournament has drawn the attention of Saudi government officials after 200 young girls from six Jeddah private high school “broke ministry rules” against girls’ participation in organized sports.

“We don‘t have any regulations that say that it’s OK for girls’ schools to hold sports classes or training,” Ahmed Al-Zahrani, director of girls’ education in Jeddah, told the UK’s Telegraph.

“This tournament was held by these schools, something that has now led us to know about their illegal activities,” he said.

According to the Telegraph, women’s access to sports in Saudi Arabia is highly restricted, governed according to “an ultra-strict version of Islam.” In fact, women are barred from participating on the Saudi Olympic team and are not allowed to attend public sports matches.

But the private Saudi girls’ schools sports tournament was hosted by Effat University, a private institution, and included basketball, badminton, swimming and athletics.

Farida Farsi, chairwoman of Al-Hamra Schools, says she received an inquiring letter from the Saudi Ministry of Education asking why it was held.

“I also received a huge number of letters and telephone calls from conservative Saudi men and sheikhs who said that I should‘ve known better and advised me not to hold such competitions in the future because it’s not ladylike,” Farsi said.

    Off with their heads! Can’t have Muslim women participating in sports, it wouldn’t take them long to realize their men are cowards and the women would be kicking their asses. Besides who are Muslim men going to hide behind if the women and kids are out playing ball?

    I believe the Muslim women are finally waking up and realizing they don’t have to stand around a wait for their father or brother or husband to kill them for no good reason, the problem now, is that even our laws in the United States are not helping these women. I believe we need to step back about 50 years and rethink what laws are doing to our society; sometimes you can get too much of a good thing. May God Bless.

    Where are the women activist groups?
    They used to run their mouths off all the time ,until that awful Heinz woman attacked Laura Bush .
    Then it seemed it was OKAY to slam women who are devoted family Moms.
    They should not be getting any kind of funding if they are simply hormonal ACORN agents.

    This is but a “minor” thing in the birth place for Islam – –young girls are of little value to the religious police. A few years ago in the kingdom, a girls school caught fire forcing the girls to flee the school for their lives. And as they ran through the gate, those who did not have their abayas (long black robe) were forced (beaten) to go back to get them and to their deaths. The religious police learned that some fathers cared a lot.

    But our federal government is not far behind the Saudi mindset that said, ” We don‘t have any regulations that say that it’s OK for girls’ schools to hold sports classes… too many FED officials (Progressives) .believe that the government controls everything that is not specifically granted to states and individuals.

    I say they can do what they want in their country. I don’t want to impose our rights and practices on them, if we do they will want to impose their Sharia laws on us. They are not ready for the 21st century. Most Islamic countries aren’t. It’s not our job to drag them kicking and screaming into the 21st century. Let them change from within. That will take generations, all we can do is use our Intelligence Agencies wisely and keep funneling money into their countries for a quiet revolt but that probably won’t work either. Let them eat cake….

      Agree for the most part. just one little problem. Saudi builds mosques all over the world and here in the USA. Schools and mosques in Saudi and the spreading of the Islamic faith to other nations falls under the contorl of the Wahabbi tribe in Saudi. When you see Wahabbi, think Taliban.

      Most Mosques built in the USA are very likely using Saudi money and bring with it a taste of Wahabbism. What is the affect of this? Since the 70′s after Saudi Arabia became rich with oil money, the Wababbi tribe had the money to build and run schools and mosques all over Saudi Arabia. virtually every Saudi boy since at least the mid 70′s attended school run under Wababbism. And where did the 19 “911” terrorists come from? That is the affect.

    Just another example of what is coming here oneday soon. I sure hope that all the “liberated” women in this country are paying attention to what they can expect if we don’t stop the Muslim threat. Chauvanism, pedophilia, rape, murder, torture, intolerance…..Oh, and all you liberal homosexuals out there, you will be the first group singled out and killed, just before the rest of us infadels are murdered. I find it ironic, that most of the people in this country who support, coddle and promote the idea of being “nice” to Muslims, are mostly all members of one group or another that that would be singled out for destruction by them.

      You’re right! We shouldn’t discuss anything dangerous or scary or anything that may threaten our way of life. We should only discuss things that are happy smilley face things so we don’t worry. Get a grip, if we only discuss patriotism, only read about Christian acts, only pay attention to things that make us feel good then we are doomed. We must not go back to sleep, the stories are not anti-anything, they just tell us how these factions think and feel. Maybe you should go back to sleep and let the adults have their discussion.

      Your name appears to be correct. You are in a Daze. the Tea Party will grow and we will turn back the progressive tide back in this country. We must hear about all of this stuff as it prepares us to see into the dark corners and know when these things are being done here in our country. They are not spurred by hate or ANTI anything. They inform. Perhaps you should actually read the context and check out links provided in the stories as well?

      If we don’t hear or speak about these things happening abroad then we will be blind to when it starts happening here as much of it has already started.If you want an intellectual battle there must be a battlefield. What do you think that field will look like?

      I will agree that many of the stories in the gay realm appear to be pushing the debate against homosexuality as a whole but not everyone on here give a crap about that. I for one do not. If you are a libertarian you wouldn’t either. It is their life they are born that way it is their choice to do as they will in this life and face what comes in the next. If they want to marry they should be able to as well. It may go against God but we are not setting them up with their lovers or egging them on. We will not perish for their sins people. Give the gay stuff up. I for one do not want to go meet my maker after having made a whole section of HUMANS feel less than such. The same should be for the rest of the religiously driven ideology. We have the power to affect how our lives and our families lives are lived but we CANNOT and I doubt God or Christ would want us to IMPOSE that will on others. It is up to them and THEY face the consequences. We must show them love. We can remind them that what they do is morally or religiously wrong but it is up to them to make the changes and not up to us to take their choice away.

    Notice the difference between a free society’s thinking and one that is not: “We don‘t have any regulations that say that it’s OK for girls’ schools to hold sports classes or training,”. In the not-free society one must have a regulation permitting one to do something. In a free society the list is only of the few things one may not do.

      YEP! I saw that report. Our own government is surreptiously following the Moslems and now trying to subvert American values. Title IX is nothing but an attempt to pander to Moslems. Not by promoting Womens sports but trying to keep men from being men. Keep men from gaining the necessary strength, agility and mental accumen which sports provide. Hopefully, weak kneed and wishy – washy men will follow the dictates of the ******** in Washington and not have the stamina to put up resistance. Prepare yourselves for the one world government!

    Girls in organized sports in Saudi Arabia ? The horror of it to think that young girls could enjoy sports like other countries. No, not so in kind and loving Islamic countries. In these countries their duty is to pump out little muslims and bow and scrape to their masters. No freedom, no personal satisfaction, no enjoyment in their lives. Not like their male counterparts who if they have money can cavort around the world enjoying all the things THEY can not enjoy. Such a kind and loving religiion Islam is, don’t we just need more thinking like that here ? Puke!!!

      It‘s just that it’s so hard to play basketball, badmittin, especially swimming and athletics with a burka on. They are just trying to protect the girls. If you swim with a burka on you could drown.
