Saudi Clerics Endorse Ban on Female Cashiers

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Saudi Arabia’s top government-sanctioned board of senior Islamic clerics has endorsed a fatwa that calls for a ban on female vendors because it violates the kingdom’s strict segregation of the sexes.
The powerful committee said in its ruling that the mixing of sexes is forbidden and women should not seek jobs where they could encounter men.
The decision comes after a conservative preacher was reprimanded in August for violating a government-mandated restriction on fatwas by calling for a boycott of supermarkets employing female cashiers.
Saudi King Abdullah has been trying to clamp down on ultraconservative ideology as part of his bid to modernize the kingdom. But his efforts appear to be challenged by the influential religious scholars, who play a key role in the monarch’s legitimacy.

The carpenders I worked with refered to these whippings as Taliban Booty Floggings. Women in Muslin countries keep their mouths shut and their eyes straight or else. Over there you would never see anything like what happened to Bill O’rilley on the View show. Booty floggings put a stop to stuff like view spew. Just sayin

Posted on November 14, 2010 at 10:39amTypical scene in Saudi Arabia when I lived there. Picture a Nissan crew cab truck. In the front seat driving would be a man and perhaps his brother. In the crew portion, the male children. In the open cab portion the women, young children, and perhaps sheep or camels. The males would be dressed in all white; the women covered from head to toe in black (my British colleagues referred to them as walking Guiness bottles).
Report Post »If you were invited to a Saudi home, you would sit with only males. At some point, there would be a knock on an inner door. The host would go to the door and after a few seconds invite everyone in for a meal. You would never see or be introduced to the wife.
Some of my Saudi colleagues even had padlocks installed on the outside of all the exits from their homes which could only be unlocked from the outside. When I asked what would happen if there was a fire or some sort of emergency, the answer was always, “inshallah” if it is Allah’s will.
When typing this I had the image of Joy Behar “living” under this type of situation…priceless!
Maybe the wunderkind on the UN Council on Women’s Rights led by the enlightened country of Iran will rectify this situation. If you believe that will happen, I have an iceberg in storage in the Sahara desert that I will sell you cheaply.
