Scarborough: ‘A President that Cannot Control 45 Backbenchers in the Opposing Party… is Too Weak to Be President’

Well it appears Joe Scarborough is on a roll. First he called on “terminally stupid ideologues” to “stop using the Tea Party as a pinata,” and now he told his Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski that “a president that cannot control 45 backbenchers in the opposing Party in the House of Representatives is too weak to be President of the United States. It is that simple.”

Scarborough, who believes President Obama “has a power with that bully pulpit that nobody else has and he will not use it,“ thinks the President has caved in instances where other ”strong leaders,” namely Ronald Reagan, would not have.

NewsBusters provides the following portion of the exchange between the two Morning Joe hosts:

SCARBOROUGH: A president that cannot control 45 backbenchers in the opposing Party in the House of Representatives is too weak to be President of the United States. It is that simple. Lyndon Johnson would have eaten these people up for breakfast and spit them out before lunch.

BRZEZINSKI: Okay. These people though are the very people that I think don’t care…

SCARBOROUGH: Ronald Reagan wouldn’t put up, I mean, a strong leader doesn’t put up with it.

BRZEZINSKI: …about…

SCARBOROUGH: It doesn’t matter whether they care or not. You make them irrelevant to the process if you’re strong enough to do that.

Watch Scarborough deliver his latest inconvenient truth about President Obama below:

NewsBusters’ Noel Sheppard reportedly believes that Scarborough was spot-on in his assessment of Obama’s demonstrated lack of leadership, stating he agreed with Scarborough that “a Reagan, Johnson, or even a Clinton would have pushed back much more effectively.” Sheppard adds:

Consider that the real legislative impact of the Republican revolution in the ‘90s didn’t happen until after their second successful election in 1996. Clinton stonewalled their budget and tax cuts until 1997 thereby furthering his own reelection.

By contrast, Obama began caving to Tea Party demands in December weeks before any of them was sworn in. Now, eight months later, he has become almost irrelevant, a situation that as NewsBusters pointed out earlier has been enabled by his equally hapless fans in the media.

So despite the many radical policy changes implemented by his administration thus far, do you consider Obama to be weak?

Hey, Joe. This is America. We have three, count ‘em, three, CO-EQUAL branches of government (this is true despite the powers the judiciary and the executive have usurped for 220 years). Those “bank benchers” are the true guardians of liberty. God bless ‘em.

normbal@ Thank you…amen…there were only a few Tea Party folks who were voting NO…they were a minority in the house as it was..they could actually do very little and whether they voted for it or against it, their votes counted very little..it was only a token vote, but these fine people stuck to their guns and did what they believed in or what they felt the people wanted that put them into office, which is why there were there…to represent us. God Bless Them. I am sick of Politicians on both sides, who get elected to go to DC and then vote the way they want, instead of what their people at home want. They didn’t hold anyone HOSTAGE…how could they.??? That would like 2 little lambs in a cage with 12 tigers…who do you think is gonna be the winner???

During the Bush years I was a DEMOCRAT.. or at least thought I was.. I will be honest BUSH scared me as much as OBAMA.. and for the SAME reasons.. BOTH of them would have liked this to NOT to be a REPUBLIC with 3 EQUAL branches of government.. what I am reading here is the SAME things the other side was saying when BUSH was in office..I left the DEMOCRATS because I did not share the values or morals of the party..and I did not run to the right because BUSH and OBAMA share many of the same ones.. same end means but different delivery.. thus far both Bush and Obama govern by regulations and Presidential order.. I am hoping this time the GOP actually runs someone who I can vote for.. NOT because they are bully’s..not because they believe they are right.. or righteous.. but because they KNOW that their job is only 1/3 .. and that it’s the PEOPLE who govern.. The President’s job is NOT to make LAWS or to just SPEND.. That would be the job of the SENATE and CONGRESS.. Nor should he be pushing HIS/HER agenda.. the end of the day the AGENDA is what the populace wants..

calling President Obama weak is the dumbest mess ever….this is the same man who had the guts to get rid of Osama bin Laden. Something the previous president was too WEAK to do. President Obama did what he had to do in order to keep this country operating and I’m sure this person knows that. This mess just make me sick! The tea party people just want President Obama to fail at all costs! It is as simple as that!

She is to the left of Obama. Even Bill Clinton wasn’t that far left and he did have the good sense to change direction and compromise. He wouldn‘t have had a second term if he hadn’t. One thing about Obama and probably Hillary neither one can change direction. They are socialists/communists and it’s who they are. To change would be to self destruct…to destroy the image they have in their heads of who they are.

We don’t like the direction Congress started to take us when they thought they got a “green light” from everyone to start down the path to Socialism with the election of Obama. The Dumocrats still don’t get it.The work, growth and impact of the “Tea Party” has just begun, and true, it is not a party. It is a movement of dissatisfied, fed up Americans like Popeye, who “have had all they can stands, and they can’t stands no more”. There is a rumbling and a ground swell, and the more the liberals chirp, speak lies and try to stuff their liberal, communist agenda down the throats of the American people, the louder the response and the larger the numbers. “It’s only just begun.”

Hardly….Scarborough is disappointed in Obama. The problem he and the dems have is the ‘power of the teaparty’. Since the teaparty’s first march on D.C. over Obamacare, the left has tried to trivialize and demonize the teaparty. The left was scared from day one. Obama fled Washington to Minnesota that weekend. Marginalize and trivialize……..

The left knows the majority of Americans hold to the teaparty’s values. Before the public catches on the left knows it has to find new and more sophisticated ways to demonize the teaparty….. and Joe Scarborough in this bit is an attempt at that. “Obama can’t control the teaparty(the backbenchers)”…..ie…he can’t control the insignifigant idealogues…..

The only ones who are afraid of the teaparty’s power are the Democrats and the Rinos….deep down and up front….THEY KNOW…………….We are Coming
