Scarborough Attacks Sarah Palin in Scathing Op-Ed: ‘Gaudy Circus Sideshow’

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough has returned from his recent suspension swinging. The former GOP congressman wrote a scathing critique of Sarah Palin today, calling her “a reality show star who cannot be elected.” And he’s calling on fellow Republicans to send her packing from the political scene.

He writes:

Republicans have a problem. The most-talked-about figure in the GOP is a reality show star who cannot be elected. And yet the same leaders who fret that Sarah Palin could devastate their party in 2012 are too scared to say in public what they all complain about in private.

Enough. It’s time for the GOP to man up.

Everybody knows that Palin is a busy woman. The former half-term governor of Alaska stays so busy these days that one wonders how this mother of five manages to juggle her new reality show, follow her eldest daughter’s dancing career and launch her latest frenetic book tour while still finding the time to insult a slew of revered presidents and first ladies.

He then goes on to question Palin’s intelligence:

What man or mouse with a fully functioning human brain and a résumé as thin as Palin’s would flirt with a presidential run? It makes the political biography of Barack Obama look more like Winston Churchill’s, despite the fact that the 44th president breezed into the Oval Office as little more than a glorified state senator.

The scathing critique continues by suggesting Palin might next try “spitting on John Wayne’s grave“ or ”shooting a bald eagle,” and tearing her down for what he sees as Palin taking shots at Ronald Reagan and the Bushes.

“I work hard every day to assume the best of Americans who engage in public service,” he writes. “But I am offended by Palin’s attempt to build herself up by tearing down great men like Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.”

He goes on to call Palin’s book-selling and public speaking appearances a “gaudy circus sideshow” and decries her “anti-intellectualism“ that some Republican see as fulfilling ”a base political need.”

“[I]f the party of Ronald Reagan, Paul Ryan and Marco Rubio wants to return to the White House anytime soon,” he ends by writing, “it’s time that Republican leaders started standing up and speaking the truth to Palin.”

Scarborough talked about his Palin problem on his show “Morning Joe” on Tuesday:

P-e-o-p-l-e! This has been the liberal stragedy since Sarah Palin was named a candidate for V.P. Of course, it’s worked in the sense that every liberal believes it. We just need to quit giving them the spotlight when they pull this crap. They have so few viewers, not many see it anyway.

Sarah, we love you and are extremely proud that you represent the greatness of this country. You set a wonderful example of a Christian, patriot, mother, and leader. Your energy astounds us! God bless Sarah Palin!

My reservations about Sarah as a presidential candidate do not come from the liberal media. I was thrilled after she gave her convention speech. But, then, I watched her try to think on her feet. She can’t. In interview after interview — not just the famously bad ones, but even with friendly interviewers — she answered with platitudes and non sequiturs that showed she didn’t have a clue. Compare what she says to an interview to the answer given by someone like Liz Cheney, for example.

But, instead of going to work and showing she had the grey matter to absorb complicated information and talk about it, she went the reality show route, and just kept playing to the probably substantial fraction of the population that is crazy about her. She has great political, populist talent, but she is not a serious enough person to win the election. I think if she could make it into the White House, she would surround herself with serious people and do fine. But there is little about her that would motivate independents and moderates to vote for her, which they must do in order for her to win.

Scarborough has lost his conservative soul and compass since he went MSNBC. There is something in the drinking water over at MSNBC and Old Joe ‘s been guzzling it.

I make it a point not to drink anything that I haven’t poured myself. But that being said, I support anyone’s right to throw their hat in the ring. It’s a hell of a thing to run for public office at any level. If she wins the primary, I’ll vote for her. But I won’t vote for her in the primary.

See, it seems sometimes that people get too lockstep with their party and fail to think critically. I don’t support Palin as a presidential candidate. I don’t think BHO is muslim. And here‘s the statement that’ll get me banned – I don’t agree with everything that Glenn Beck says. I’m with him about 95% of the time but sometimes I don’t see eye to eye. That doesn‘t mean that I’m drinking the Ed Schultz kool aid. It just means that I have a different opinion. So does Joe Scarborough. I respect him for that but I disagree with him quite a bit. My biggest gripe about BHO supporters is that they circled the wagons and insist that everything that the man does is divine providence. Its shameful.

She needs to be involved b/c she brings enthusiasm to the party and she has some fervent supporters but she can’t win the big one. Republicans are afraid to admit the truth – she should not run because she cannot win. And let’s be honest – elections aren’t about putting the best person on the ticket – they’re about winning.

We can stand on our principles and put her up and lose, or go for someone who might not be quite as popular and win. There are some very good people out there that we can look at without sacrificing principles and they are more electable. Too many big guns are pointed at Sarah, unions, NOW, all libs, dems, minorities and even the establishment republicans. A good conservative is not an unthinking sycophant, but a principled individual who tests his ideas against reality to be sure that they are right and right for the country. Scarborough did attack Bush because of the President’s denial regarding Iraq and his lack of principles on fiscal discipline. Conservatives like Palin called people less American for criticizing the Presdent in such a way. Patriots should tell voters and leaders what they need to hear, not what they want to hear. In this regard, Palin is no patriot, but Joe definitely is.

I noticed a comment today on the Blaze’s The Wire part about the ruined city of Pompeii; seems that a second part of the ruins, a garden wall has collapsed after ‘heavy rains’. And yet I keep thinking of the stories told that when Pompeii and Herculanium were initially destroyed, the people of both of the cities ignored the rumblings and small quakes coming from the great volcano just a few miles away.

It sounds to me like the volcano is waking up again. This is what I see also happening here in the country; the talking non-braniacs like Olbermann and Scarborough are distractions, micro quakes that make us uneasy, while the Wikileaks is a major rumbling…

As Beck calls it the Perfect Storm; something is about to blow, and it will only be one small event to set off the chain reaction of events.

St Helens eruption started with a mild quake, shattering a small ice shelf that slid down, and freed the cork on the side that detonated in less than 10 seconds of a firestorm and hell unleashed.

Why should he shut up? Most of America agrees with him. Barack Obama polls higher than Sarah Palin in most states, including Alaska. She cannot win. Moreover, she is unfit to lead. She confuses North and South Korea, thinks Africa is a country and cannot find Iran on a map. Just because 30% of the GOP believes that anybody smart is untrustworthy doesn‘t mean that there isn’t a lower bound on smarts for the White House, and she is so below the line that even the uneducated masses in this country can see it. The Republican party has a rare opportunity: a second chance. Despite years of corruption and wasteful spending that makes even Democrats blush, the country is willing to go back to the wife-beater one last time. But the GOP will be squandering that chance if they do not field serious candidates that can talk facts and numbers, and can lead the US out of its funk. Reality shows, empty rhetoric and willful ignorance will only make it worse for the party and for the country.

I don’t like the man, but he has a point-even if taken too far. Sarah Palin cannot win a general election. She’s too polarizing and will drive the young democrats to the polls in opposition of her (thats what won BO the Presidency last election). We have a groundswell going, and in 2012 we will have the house and senate. We don’t need a polarizing republican primary and general election. If Mitt Romney were to run, he‘d get my vote because he’d pick up a lot of independant voters due to his economic experience, and I believe a representative senate and congress will be able to push the true agenda while leaving Romney to keep the look of an independant, thus giving him 2 terms and us a succesful election series across the board. Remember, this isnt just about this upcoming election, but about changing the course in which our country is being taken. If we were to elect Sarah, and even if she won, the blowback would be incredible and leaver her with just a 1 term presidency. With a Romney/Rubio ticket we can be assured to have a 2 term president with a strong VP to likely take the job afterwards. Remember how the progressives did it? Slowly moving the needle forward and taking away our fredoms? We need to slowly move that needle backwards giving the freedoms back without inciting huge riots out of the younger generation (of which I am a part) who may feel like they are losing out because of the older generation. You may not agree, but this is the smartest course of action to be taken by the Republicans to ensure we can truely take our country back!

Rubio? Come on! I voted for Rubio, and am anxious to see how he will legislate. He just got there, let him gain some experience and a track record before ushering him into the VP position.

@Konservative Punk….Rubio will be a VP candidate this year. He’s been named by numerous sources as at the top of a very short list of candidates.

I’ve alway liked Scarborough. He ran for congress as a “tenth amendment” Republican. I like him even more now. He’s the only reason anybody watches MSNBC. I’m a FOXNEWS junkie, but Fox and Friends is sometimes so bloated with fluff and predictability, that I find myself watching Scarborough a lot in the mornings.

I can‘t wait to hear Sarah’s reply! She’ll slam him for sure, just like she did Barbara Bush, Karl Rove, and anyone else who criticizes her. Maybe her skin is a bit thin, but it’s fun to watch the sniping.

The Blaze, Really! Who watches Scarborough who even cares what this idiot has to say? He’s a nobody!

MSNBC Attacks on Sarah Palin is it news worthy? Does this surprise you coming from a liberal? WTF!

I do not watch MSNBC I do not allow the channel on in my home, so why would I want to hear this crap on The Blaze?

If it’s something real and I mean news worthy by a prominent source, I would love to hear it. But you missed your mark on this one.

Yeah joe your right why would the american public actually want to vote for a candidate like sarah palin.American voters certainly dont want a president who actually might run the country the way most american people run there households. Sarah palin can win the primary and can defeat obama because nobody wants another 4 years of obama do they?

Heck Obama didn‘t even sit 100 days in the ’senate seat‘ he leapfrogged after promising the illinidiots he wouldn’t run for president IF elected to the very seat he abandoned, the one Mark Kirk just filled. Mine, the one Obama shoplifted.
