Scarborough Says ‘There Will Be Blood’ If Romney Wins Iowa and New Hampshire

Former Republican Florida congressman and current MSNBC host Joe Scarborough has been vocal in his opinions about the 2012 Republican presidential primary and its candidates.
Two weeks ago the Morning Joe host said with the surge of Texas Rep. Ron Paul in national polls, that “there is always a strain of anit-Semitism” among some of his supporters at events. Scarborough did not raise those concerns a little more than a week prior to the Anti-Semitism statement, when he said if then front-runner former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich was able to secure the Republican nomination, he would take “a long look” at voting for Ron Paul on a third-party ticket. In November, Scarborough shot defiant “told you so” type words at conservative bloggers as the presidential campaign of Texas Gov. Rick Perry looked to be collapsing, lambasting those who doubted his prediction that the success of both Bachmann and Perry campaigns would not last. And truth be told, both Perry and Bachmann have long been favorite targets of MSNBC’s anointed conservative commentator.
Scarborough’s latest observation: “There will be blood” among conservatives if Mitt Romney seems to be easily securing the nomination after Iowa and New Hampshire wins:
Newsbusters transcript of Scarborough’s juicier remarks:
“JOE SCARBOROUGH: I will tell you this. I know this sounds crazy, but if I’m just looking at the field right now: keep your head down, don’t blow yourself up in Iowa, because there‘s going to be a lot of teeth gnashing and weeping after the guy that’s got a 24% ceiling wins Iowa and the conservatives split. Cause everybody’s going to start looking and saying OK, who is the conservative? We are not going to allow a guy that has the 24% of the moderates in the Republican party voting for him, while this conservative party pushes another, let’s say, Gerald Ford to the finish line. By the way, I need to explain this. This isn’t necessarily what I feel. I need to explain this. I’m telling you, as I predicted, crazy never wins in the Republican party, and it doesn’t.
But the Republican party, just like I said when Newt Gingrich was at 38, 39% wasn’t going to stand for that, they’re not going to stand for the guy who has a 24% ceiling walking away with their nomination. Anybody who thinks it’s going to be over after Iowa and New Hampshire, if Romney wins, does not understand the conservative base. There will be blood if Mitt Romney seems like the guy who’s going to walk away with it . . . So, Mark Halperin, do you think it’s over if Mitt Romney wins out?
MARK HALPERIN: I think it is, Joe. I know you think it won’t. And I do think there will be this spasm of conservative angst, of saying it can’t over, he’s not the right person.
SCARBOROUGH: They should have thought of this before!
HALPERIN: They should have thought of it before. I mean, if he wins Iowa I think he will roll out of New Hampshire and I think he’ll be in a strong position in South Carolina. Willie and I were talking, as we like to say, off air, about the notion of people dropping out. I don‘t think anybody’s going to drop out. I think even Michell Bachmann will go, try to fight on in South Carolina. It’s perfect for Mitt Romney to have a crowded field in South Carolina”
Take a look at Scarborough and the rest of the Morning Joe panel live from Iowa take on the Romney campaign:

Posted on January 2, 2012 at 11:35pmRemember folks, he was the Governor of Massachusetts…elected to represent and lead the people of that state. THEY wanted a health care mandate. THEY wanted what has been dubbed ‘RomneyCare’. To throw that out there and use it as fodder for pundits or proof that he is just like Obama is ridiculous. He was representing the citizens of his state and did what the majority of them asked him to do…create a health care system for them. He may not have been thrilled to do it, but he should be proud that he was able to get it done. Most folks forget that he was threatened with a huge loss of Medicaid funds if he did not reduce the number of uninsured folks seeking medical care in his state. Also remember that the state legislature amended his plan and added more people to it as well as removing the high deductible plan option. (which changed the overall numbers for it to pencil out) If you also look at the conservative actions he took to reduce the $3 billion deficit he had handed to him when he was sworn in, you would applaud them! He cut spending, he closed tax loopholes, and in the end, closed with over $700 million surplus. So when he says States should decide for themselves, he is spot on with the Founding Fathers..thats what Mass. wanted and thats what they got.

Posted on January 3, 2012 at 12:48am@dani As president, Romney will have absolutely no power to reverse Roe v. Wade, that will ultimately be decided by the supreme court if that case is ever revisited (highly unlikely). A president can only do so much if he wishes to abide by the constitution. You really shouldn’t judge a candidate based off of his stances on social issues like gay marriage, since defeating Obama and stopping the Left SHOULD be our #1 priority. Having pissy fits over abortion and gay marriage will likely doom the GOP candidate, since those issues largely alienate many voters. Economy and Jobs are #1 and it is important that the eventual candidates focuses on Obamao’s failures on those fronts.

I don’t care if Romney is 100% pro-choice (and I’m 100% pro-life by the way). Romney is an economist that can fix our country’s mess. He is the best man for 2012. #1 – Rove v Wade is already law. If Romney is pro-choice, he won’t be doing much to change what is already in place. Meaning, it’s not going to get any worse than it already is.
#2 – The POTUS doesn’t have a whole lot of bearing on RvW, so his position on abortion is nearly moot. The US Supreme Court will either let RvW stand or overturn it, not the POTUS.

Posted on January 3, 2012 at 11:14am@Danibalyeat, I think you may have missed something there…The Massachusetts Supreme Court ruled that the health care bill that passed had to cover abortion. There were many things that the Massachusetts bill had in it that Romney vetoed. Unfortunately when you have a veto proof majority in the legislature you don’t necessarily get your way (often times you don’t). He did have a balanced budget all 4 years, he did cut taxes, he did order the police to cooperate with ICE and immigration enforcement, he did stand for life when it push came to shove. Being in an extremely blue state myself, I wish that when we had a Republican governor he had fought for the things that Romney fought for in Massachusetts, but Schwarzenegger just rolled over and let the legislature pass every far far-left bill they wanted.

Most politicians tell you what you want to hear. Romney’s message is not bad… not as conservative as I would like but not bad. But why should I believe him? Romney has never answered that question to my satisfaction.
I don’t trust Romney. Not because he’s done something questionable in his past (though Romneycare is not a good indicator) but simply because he’s running for president. Call me jaded if you will, but it’s a matter of fact that most promises made by people seeking that office are not kept. It’s naive to think this time will be different.
I will not vote for him in the primary. If he wins the republican nomination I will vote for him in the general election or for the libertarian candidate, whoever has the best chance of beating Obama.
So who am I going to vote for? That’s a good question. My top three right now are Newt, Paul and Santorum. Each has their own set of strengths and weaknesses and, to be honest, I’m not yet sure which one would be the best choice for our country.

Posted on January 3, 2012 at 2:57pmHere’s some more on what these terrible republicans and democrats had to say on the military spending
America’s national debt represents the single, most dangerous threat to our future security, prosperity and hegemony in the world,” said Congressman John Campbell, who has offered amendments to eliminate waste in the 2011 and 2012 Department of Defense budgets and has called for an audit of the Pentagon. “As we engage in a debate this year about reducing spending, we must examine all areas of the federal government, including the Department of Defense, for responsible efficiencies and expense reductions through a reassessment of our national defense needs.”
“I firmly believe that the best way to protect America is by enacting a budget that invests in all dimensions of our national security,” said Congressman Rush Holt. “That means a budget that supports our conventional military forces, invests in our counter-terrorism efforts, and – just as importantly – protects our economic security by reining in needless or excessive spending.”

Posted on January 2, 2012 at 7:19pmSo, if you are in fact representative of the TEA party, then what lefties have tried to say all along must be terribly true. Bigotry runs deep, Born-Again/Main Stream Christian, is the only answer, regardless of previous experience, success, or the electable status of the front runner. Because, unless you have had your head buried in the sand for the past couple of years, you know dang well that Romneycare as it stands today is not the legislative solution created and championed by the former Governer. Turns out it doesn’t work when being adulterated by a democrat state legislature with liberal ideals, but in its original form it was an intelligent attempt to solve an increasingly devastating financial problem for his state, it was designed as a cost cutting measure shifting more responsibility on the individual and away from the state. As originally passed it was considered Conservative by the Heritage Foundation.
This is not an argument. At all.
Obamacare will be repealed if and only if we have control over the congress or the Supreme Court does their job. Either way, Romney in the White House will at least mean support for its appeal at the top will be guaranteed. Romneycare=Obamacare is non-issue. The matter at hand is we have an entity (The United States) in severe economic peril. No one else has done what Romney has done to entities in severe economic peril.
