Scared to Serve: Giffords Shooting Prompts GOP Resignations in AZ

Just weeks after being elected to a new one-year term as one of Arizona Republican Party’s district chairmen, 43-year-old Anthony Miller has resigned. His emailed resignation note to the state party chair was sent a few hours after Saturday’s shooting massacre in Tucson that killed six and left 13 injured, including Democratic Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
“Today my wife of 20 yrs ask (sic) me do I think that my PCs (Precinct Committee members) will shoot at our home? So with this being said I am stepping down from LD20GOP Chairman…I will make a full statement on Monday,” Miller’s message read. The battle between factions in Miller‘s Legislative District 20 had made him worry for his family’s safety and what happened on Saturday in Tucson confirmed his worst fears.
Miller’s resignation prompted a number of other Republican officials to step down, including the district’s secretary and first vice chairman. “This singular focus on ‘getting Anthony was one of the main reasons I chose to resign,” the former district spokesman says.
The Arizona Republic reports that the threatening rhetoric has come from divisions within the Republican Party:
After the election and around the December holiday season, some of Miller’s detractors made an issue of the residency of Dickinson, the first vice-chairman. Dickinson, who did not return phone messages, was a supporter of Miller’s and allegedly moved to a different precinct within Dist. 20 last year, making him ineligible for the leadership post. Miller said he told the critics he would handle the matter after the holidays. In the meantime, a series of accusatory e-mails was exchanged among party members. Some blasted Miller’s support of McCain, called him a “McCainiac with a penchant for violating the rules” and a “McCain hack.”
Miller said when he was a member of McCain’s campaign staff last year has been criticized by the more conservative party members who supported Republican opponent J.D. Hayworth. The first and only African-American to hold the party’s precinct chairmanship, Miller said he has been called “McCain’s boy,” and during the campaign saw a critic form his hand in the shape of a gun and point it at him.
“I wasn’t going to resign but decided to quit after what happened Saturday,” Miller said. “I love the Republican Party but I don’t want to take a bullet for anyone.”

With the daunting magnitude of problems now baring down on the nation,( the legacy of 100 years of progressive-socialist policies), no thinking person can just “hope” it will get better doing the same. The conservative public is finally deciding for themselves they can “no longer go along to get along” and is participating in the political process like never before. RINOs are the most confused and bitter. Neither side needs ‘luke warm”. They have no were to go except check out or be voted out. As that happens, what we are witnessing over and over is RINOs going out in backlashing fashion toward the tea party, conservative movement. Nothing more than just sore loser behavior from the lib-progressive character. Conservatives, we can expect a lot more of this because we are winning! And thats the point we can not forget here.

As for this guy resigning, I am in agreement with most of the posters here. Obviously, or I probably wouldn’t be coming to this site, right? This man does not have what it takes to be in politics. It’s good that he got out now. Courage is a quality that began to be “taught” out of males back when I was in grade school. It became unacceptable to stand up for oneself. Luckily, this was a lesson I never learned. Unfortunately, most of our politicians learned the coward lesson too well.

Posted on January 12, 2011 at 10:20pmThe fate of the American Statesmen who signed the Declaration of Independance
Of those 56 who signed the Declaration of Independence, nine died of wounds or hardships during the war. Five were captured and imprisoned, in each case with brutal treatment. Several lost wives, sons or entire families. One lost his 13 children. Two wives were brutally treated. All were at one time or another the victims of manhunts and driven from their homes. Twelve signers had their homes completely burned. Seventeen lost everything they owned. Yet not one defected or went back on his pledged word. Their honor, and the nation they sacrificed so much to create, is still intact.
Report Post »And, finally, there is the New Jersey signer, Abraham Clark. He gave two sons to the officer corps in the Revolutionary Army. They were captured and sent to the infamous British prison hulk afloat in New York harbor known as the hell ship “Jersey,” where 11,000 American captives were to die. The younger Clarks were treated with a special brutality because of their father. One was put in solitary and given no food. With the end almost in sight, with the war almost won, no one could have blamed Abraham Clark for acceding to the British request when they offered him his sons’ lives if he would recant and come out for the King and parliament. The utter despair in this man’s heart, the anguish in his very soul, must reach out to each one of us down through 200 years with his answer: “No.”
The 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence proved by their every deed that they made no idle boast when they composed the most magnificent curtain line in history. “And for the support of this Declaration with a firm reliance on the protection of divine providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.”

Posted on January 12, 2011 at 11:50pm@JZS, shut your hole. you and your ilk look for any one openning to insert your hate-filled rhetoric. he was stating, as Jefferson would have, that when the government gets to overwhelming and tyrannical, than the only hope of the people is the second amendment. That we have the power over our government to do our will, and that if they try to force their will on us, then we, by right and constitution, can make them subvert to our will. He never said, and our Founders never implied, that the will of an individual has power to suplant the will of an elected official through execution.

Your logic would have us sipping tea at 3 every afternoon gossiping about the queens new provincial governor for the colonies. Such talk is important to remind power hungery politicians who IGNORE the Constitution that they are not ordained by God to rule (as a king is). Were the founding fathers just as crazy? Using your logic yes. As a last resort, revolution is the only answer. See what happens if voter fraud gets worse. People will not stand being ripped off for long.

Posted on January 13, 2011 at 7:52amA victory for the sheriff. Get that man out of the public sector and do it immediately(!), he is a danger to the people of his district. I am very sorry to hear this gentleman is resigning his post because one crazy person, who is off the streets, who had been threatening for years (but the inept sheriff did nothing), carried out his threat. With the media aiding and abetting the sheriff I imagine it is a bit frightening but this too shall pass. I pray the GOP will find someone to take over who will stand for what we believe, freedom, and pray they will stay safe.

Posted on January 13, 2011 at 11:34am@My Sacred Honor – You need to look up the word “tyrannical” which is your justification for using the “Second Amendment” remedies you and Doctor are referring to. Okay, did you look up the word? You may recall that we recently had an election and that, actually, a lot of Republicans won. Tyrannical governments don’t have elections. If you read the news, you know that any laws passed in the last two years have been voted on by the House and Senate. In fact, rather than the simple majority the Founders envisioned, Republicans in the Senate required a 60% super majority. Some bills passed, some did not, but the government was operating as it always has.
That form of government is not called a tyranny, it’s called a Democracy. And it’s been no different the last two years that the two years before that, or the 200 years before that.
No “tyranny” and “dictatorship” are words people like you use to inflame passions. Along with the logic your “Second Amendment remedies”, provide the justification in some minds to assassinate, make death threats, throw bricks through the windows of Democrats and so on.
If you actually understood what the word tyranny meant you wouldn’t confuse that with our government, one elected by the people, and one whose elected officials vote on laws. And you wouldn’t have a justification for violence.

” When elected officials take the oath to uphold the Constitution, the Second Amendment is part of that.”
And you wondered why peole at first blamed the Tea-Bagging party? The rhetoric of the Tea-Baggers from their National leaders, to the pundents and finally its members is laced with violent references and 2nd Amendment rememdies.
The Tea-Party has no understand what it means to be an American, they have no love for the country or the Constitution. The Tea Party is a collection petty creatures blinded by racism and hate for does that do not believe in the mythical, leave it to beaver America.

Posted on January 13, 2011 at 1:29pm@IntheKnowOG – could you send me a link to any indictments or convictions for the voter fraud you say is rampant? Allegations, sure. That’s what the Tea Party is going to say when their candidates lose. But I’m talking about convictions. Can you find one and post a link?
Also, you say politicians are ignoring the Constitution. Yeah, I hear that all the time. Can you give me an example? Can you give a single example of something a politician has done, reference exactly what part of the Constitution, or applicable case law applies, and explain why the action was unconstitutional.
Seriously. Give the world an example, or admit you are just making stuff up. You must have 50 examples you can give right of the top of your head.
