School Retracts Permission Slip for Pledge

A Massachusetts public school is backing down from its requirement that parents sign a permission slip in order for their kids to participate in the Pledge of Allegiance.

MyFoxBoston reports:

A Brookline school is now saying permission slips won’t be necessary for students to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

Beginning next month, all students at the Devotion School will say the Pledge over the school’s intercom. The school’s principal initially said the permission slips will encourage parents to have a discussion with their kids about the Pledge.

The Brookline superintendent says while it may seem extreme, it’s necessary. It is state law to recite the Pledge of Allegiance every day, but courts have ruled students have the right not to participate.

The most shocking part of the story may be that the Pledege has been absent from the school for seven years. The video below highlights the ACLU attorney who suggests it’s ridiculous to think parents can make decisions for their kids:

First, I would like to say that any teacher who does not stand and pledge allegiance to the Flag of The United States should not be getting Tax Payers money. Second, I would like to say that I do NOT appreciate the commercial on this site. The commercial is too sexual and beneath what I expect from The Blaze.

I would go a step further and say that any School System accepting funds from the United States Goverment agree to Pledge Allegiance to our Flag, which stands for UNITY IN THE CAUSE OF FREEDOM. How could anyone disagree to unify for the cause of freedom? If you read the pledge to the flag carefully, you will see that we pledge to the flag of the United States of America, not to God. We take this pledge out in the open under God, for all to hear, because we are not ashamed to stand up for freedom. We do not hidden in a back room some where, secretly. If our schools are ashamed to stand up and unify for the cause of freedom, they should not get our money.

The American Flag stands for Unity in the Cause of Freedom. The Pledge of allegiance is the pledge each citizen should take that they agree to UNIFY IN THE CAUSE OF FREEDOM. It is not about God. While our founders were in majority Christians and they took this pledge under God and we are still a majority Christian. IT IS NOT ABOUT GOD! It is about “UNIFYING FOR THE CAUSE OF FREEDOM” Dont let progressive/socialists confuse this issue. Their mission is to destroy our freedom. I WILL TAKE THE PLEDGE TO UNIFY FOR THE CAUSE OF FREEDOM, UNDER GOD AND ANYONE ELSE WHO WILL LISTEN. ….Do You???? This has been the cause of our country since it’s beginning. Freedom is now under attack within our borders. Read the words in the American Pledge and if you agree, Take that pledge an unite as one nation, the majority of us who live under God.

Quite truthfully, the permission slip is bogus. All it actually indicates is that a parent/guardian/custodian was aware that the Pledge was being recited and that they have no problem with their child or ward saying it.

Other than insisting that the students quietly stand and be respectful during the time that the Pledge is recited, I think the school made way too big of a deal over this. They were trying to be Politically Correct and “Sensitive” and it blew back in their faces – big time.

I like the Pledge and recite it frequently at business meetings. No problem. However, it’s important for people to remember that it is a pledge, not an oath. It is also not a citizenship test, nor is it a test of patriotism. While reciting it may express loyality, not saying does NOT express disloyality.

However, the Pledge takes approximately 17 seconds to say, which thoroughly obliterates one person’s suggestion on an earlier thread that the non-participants be allowed to go out an have recess during that time, never mind taking attendance as to who is and who is not saying the Pledge. By the time a teacher got Billy, Bobby, Janie and Suzie out into the hallway to avoid their being “exposed” to the compulsory pledge, it would be over.

And assuming that who ever does not recite the Pledge is not patriotic is not viable since in response to my earlier post, numerous people pointed out that Jehovah’s Witnesses do not recite the pledge as part of their religious beliefs. And I’m good with that. So the parents of a student who is a Jehovah‘s Witness would be sending in a slip saying they don’t want their child reciting the Pledge.

The one thing that this whole brew-haha did do was it exposed those who are militantly against reciting the Pledge, and knowing where people stand is always good.

It is the law to be recited everyday and the “choice” of the student to do or not do. But to have to have permission from the parent is assinine. My youngest has graduated this past year and I asked him about this. He told me he recited the pledge every morning but none of his classmates did. I told him he was a patriot and his classmates were pinheads,(to swipe a line from our dear Bill O’Reilly).

You need dedicated warriors so you will have to dynamite most of them out of their Lazy Boys and they won’t budge until their TV program is over. Revolution may be fun to talk about but when it comes down to fighting and DYING most will go back to their TV’s and leave the fighting to others. Read THE TURNER DIARIES and you will see how the future could play out. Then ask yourself if you have the mettle to revolt.

First of all, WHERE did the offensive ad I saw at the beginning of this video come from???!! I thought it was inappropriate to say the least. Do people in Boston actually have commercials like this at the beginning of their TV shows, yet have some kind of “problem” with their kids reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in school??? That says a lot, right there.

Second, I am disgusted and shocked a school would consider pledging allegiance to the flag of their country controversial. I grew up in a public school where not only the pledge was recited daily in every classroom, but a Bible verse was read and all students led in a prayer. I would love to see us return to ALL of that. No wonder our country is in trouble.

How sad is this? The school must notify parents that the Pledge will be said one day a week? And then they took it one more step to be perfectly PC and added a permission slip?

All these kids have to do is stand there and not say a word. I’ve seen several people do this at various meetings where the Pledge is recited. It’s not an issue for them. They are not disrespectful and I actually respect their actions more because they don’t remain seated, they don’t turn their backs (Look at me, look at me) and they don’t file complaints. They are simply individuals who don‘t agree or wish to recite the Pledge and don’t feel compelled to, but don’t make a fuss about it either.

No No No….you ‘misunderstand’. Only the government can tell the little ones what to eat, read, and recite. They changed their mind because they did not want the parents to think they have a right to grant permission for a child , because parents have no place in the life of the child. If a parent gave permission, that would be giving power to the parent. Always look behind the smoke. Remember Cass Sunstein believes animals should have lawyers.

I hang a flag in my house for all to see regardless if they want to or not to let them know where I stand and I will be damned if my kid feels the need NOT to recite the pledge. As long as WE THE PEOPLE continue to just talk about what is happening to the country and fail to stand up and take action (reference the Founding Fathers 101), this will continue. Again…the Progressives in all areas of our society are no longer threatened by us. They have nothing to loose, because there is no visible threat to them or their actions. NOT EVEN AN ELECTION. The Progressives are emboldened like never before because they continue to win victory after victory after victory. And rest assured this will continue regardless of the any election. The power brokers behind the scenes have control and if anyone in Congress or the Senate takes a stand they will be crucified. Problem is we have no one in Washington with the character and conviction of the Founders. And that includes the band of new Republicans that will be arriving in January 2011. We the people of this country are the only one’s that can do this job. When the pain gets too great and we hate what is happening to the country more than we love our stuff and our cushy lifestyles and are willing to sacrifice our cushy lifestyles and all of our stuff (sacrifice is only sacrifice if it cost you something), then maybe…just maybe we will join together (not many but a few) and revolt. Until then stay tuned for the continued and systematic dismantling of the nation. Whether you want to admit it or not…the country we once knew if already gone. Note: At some point we will reach the point of no return where there is no getting the country back.

Everyone complains about the schools and then every morning they send their kids to a Government School. If you are not home schooling your kids then you are keeping these cretins in control of what they get taught. Home School your Kids.

We went to the Christmas show for our kids grade school in Helena Montana. The VERY FIRST thing, The Principle called all the children who had parents in the military on stage and the entire audience stood and recited the Pledge of Allengiance. During the show you should have heard the cheers and whistles and claps when Jesus name was spoken. The same thing happened when the Star of David appeared. We still feel HIM here. There are still some limitations to what the public schools can do, but I think we do more now than in the past. All of you here, good men and women on both sides of the issues, God bless you and may he hold you in his arms, we hold you in our prayers.

Ahhh yes, let’s celebrate that a government institution can now force you to recite something. Great precedent your public pressure changed.

Actually, I’m not surprised if they were pulling a reversal. Why would any of you small government types oppose putting the power of what the kids did in school in the hands of the parents. They wanted you to oppose this! It would easily set up precedent for it in the future.

Good job for falling for it, Conservatives!
