School Superintendent Receiving Death Threats Over Santa Order

A Massachusetts school superintendent who banned Santa Claus from visiting classrooms has received death threats, despite quickly reversing his position, the Boston Globe reported.
Richard Langlois, superintendent of Saugus Public Schools, canceled the longstanding tradition of local firefighters dressing like Santa and visiting schools Monday, saying it conflicted with school policy banning the celebration of religious holidays. According to Boston ABC affiliate WCVB-TV, firefighters have organized the visits and coloring book giveaways for the last 49 years.
Outrage ensued, prompting Langlois to reverse the order the same day, clearing the way for the local Kris Kringles to visit the children.
Despite the reversal, Langlois has received threats, a school committee member told the Globe.
“It’s a shame that an incident like this should blow up the way it has,” member Joseph Malone told the newspaper, adding that he believes police are investigating the threats. “Death threats — that’s just appalling.”
According to WCVB, Langlois contacted police after receiving one death threat in the mail. Investigators did not disclose to the station what the card said, but forensic tests were being conducted to try to determine where it came from.

Leave them alone and let them do what they have always done. If the “All American Muslim” football team can pray before their game, let Santa visit this district.

Posted on December 22, 2011 at 11:09pmI was going to say “Freedom of religion, not freedom from religion” but I can’t see the connection between Santa and any religion.
Can I be married by Santa? I’ve never gone to a church lead by Santa. I’ve never heard Santa recite the 10 commandments, nor a single bible verse. I’ve never seen Santa give a eulogy. What bible passage gives Santa the authority to judge “naughty from nice?”
I think these people have lost their minds.

I was never taught about santa, our Christmas was always about Jesus’ birth and my children have been brought up the same way. No santa or st. nicholas for us.

That neither here nor there the only real question is what does it hurt having firemen who obviously enjoy bringing smiles to children dressing up like santa. They‘re work on shifts and are paid a salary they do this when they’re not on their call shift so it’s not wasting resources or put possible victims at risk. It’s also excellent P.R. for their station.

Have any of us not been pushed to the point that we, at some point, decided it was time to push back? Many people that I have spoken to in the previous two years feel they have already been pushed against the wall.
