School Will Allow Gay Teen to Wear ‘Jesus Is Not a Homophobe’ Shirt for 1 Day

School to Allow Gay Student to Wear Jesus Is Not a Homophobe Shirt for 1 DayCINCINNATI (The Blaze/AP) — We already told you about Maverick Couch, a 16-year-old gay student who sued his public high school for prohibiting him from wearing a t-shirt designed to urge tolerance of gays. Now, the school has changed course and will allow Couch to wear the shirt for at least one day.

The southwest Ohio school district agreed in a conference between attorneys and the judge to the teen wear the shirt bearing the message “Jesus Is Not A Homophobe” on April 20, according to federal court records. But Couch’s lawsuit charging that Waynesville High School and the Wayne Local School District are violating his freedom of expression rights is proceeding.

(Related: Gay Student Sues School District for Banning His ‘Jesus Is Not a Homophobe’ T-Shirt)

Officials at the southwest Ohio public school had told Couch he couldn’t wear the shirt because it was “sexual in nature,” indecent and inappropriate at school, the lawsuit says.

April 20 is the Day of Silence, an annual event protesting the bullying and harassment of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students. Couch had said he wanted to wear the shirt to “promote respect for all students, gay or straight.”

“We’re glad that Maverick is able to wear his shirt on April 20,” Couch’s attorney, Christopher Clark, said. “However, a student’s First Amendment rights are not restricted to one day of the year — we will continue to fight until Maverick is allowed to express who he is on any day he chooses.”

Clark is an attorney with the civil rights group Lambda Legal, which is assisting Couch in the lawsuit against the school, located 35 miles northeast of Cincinnati.

School District Superintendent Patrick Dubbs would say only that “progress was made” in the case and that numerous issues “remain to be resolved.” Another telephone conference in the case is set for May 2, according to court records.

Couch said he wore the shirt, which also bears the image of a rainbow-colored fish similar to a religious symbol used by Christians, last April and was told by the high school principal to turn it inside out. He said he complied but was threatened with suspension if he tried to wear it again.

Couch said that school officials on other occasions told him the shirt would be disruptive and that it was too religious.

The lawsuit charges that the actions of officials in the district violate Couch’s constitutional rights, including the First Amendment right to freedom of speech and the Fourteenth Amendment right to equal protection under the law. It asks the U.S. District Court to order school officials to allow Couch to wear the shirt and to pay him unspecified “nominal” damages and attorneys’ fees.

Now that would be wrong – no he should be able to speak out – but biblically God really does not like it when people put words in his mouth – what the kid said is not biblical it is very deceptive – he takes his own soul into his hands early in life – likely promted by adults

Homophobe is kind of an oxymoron isn’t it..Who would ever fear a homosexual? The One most feared by Christians is YWVH..our Creator..the One who holds the power of the second death..Fear not him who can kill your body..but fear Him who can kill both your body and soul in hell..

“Couch had said he wanted to wear the shirt to “promote respect for all students, gay or straight.””

Does that include having respect for those who are offended by gay behavior?

Anyway, if we shrink government to its constitutional size, we wouldn’t have a public school system where people would be forced by the state to interact with those with whom they are offended.

Then this guy could wear whatever he wants, and people could avoid being around him if they so chose.

      Problem solved.

English language doesn’t have the word “homosexualism.”
It’s probably because English-speaking people don’t distinguish (or are afraid to distinguish because of that idiotic political correctness) between HOMOSEXUALITY as a genetic deviation, which happens not more often than hexadactylic (six-fingered) people, and HOMOSEXUALISM as an ideology rooted in vogue or sexual satiety, which is probably constituting 99% of Americans androserasts (from Greek andropos – man and erastos – lover.)
My mother tongue, which is Russian, clearly differentiates these two different phenomena.

“It’s probably because English-speaking people don’t distinguish (or are afraid to distinguish because of that idiotic political correctness) between HOMOSEXUALITY as a genetic deviation, which happens not more often than hexadactylic (six-fingered) people …”

People‘s beliefs don’t come from genetics, so homosexuality is a choice.

And yes, that means that heterosexuality is a choice, as well. The difference, though, is that heterosexuality is an informed choice.

      I know: “Says you”, right?

But think about what it is that gays are saying. They‘re saying that they’re only attracted to one gender; So, they’re just as “narrow minded” as straights.

“But not all straight are against gays being together”. Not so fast: Is it “tolerance” when someone who refuses, for themselves, to date from the same sex, but then says it’s just fine if others want to do so? What do you think these same people would say if you asked them “Why won’t you consider dating from the same sex?” They’re going to say that they find it disgusting.

How is that consistent with the stated belief that it’s “fine” for others to be gay? And if such an answer is, indeed, “tolerant”, then I say that a lot of gays have been misrepresenting their position.

Because if its OK for people to be disgusted with the gay lifestyle, then stop complaining.

No, the problem is made even bigger: if everyone wears or does something that may interfere with others’ activities or beliefs, it may cause huge problems.
Try, for instance, to wear a shirt with Hitler’s face on it. Particularly in Brooklyn, NY. The obama-in-Chief is also a great example how damaging may be when somebody does whatever s/he wants.

      1. “People‘s beliefs don’t come from genetics, so homosexuality is a choice,” you said.
If you say that homosexuality is a “belief”, you will have to say that all congenital malformations, like, for instance, primary mental deficiency or syphilitic congenital oligophrenia is a “belief,” too. Hopefully, you understand that it’s wrong. As any biological abnormality, homosexuality is a genetic deviation, it’s not what a person “chooses”, it’s what a person is born with.
Obviously I’m talking about REAL homosexuality.

On the other hand, HOMESEXUALISM as an ideology and/or a behavior mode, is a choice.
As you should know, though, both “natural” and “acquired” homosexuals, almost all, can or do have children, which means they can copulate with women as all normal people.
So, an most cases this is just a psychological deviation from normality.

      To be continued…

No, it DOES NOT mean “that heterosexuality is a choice”: heterosexuality is NATURAL NORMALITY, it is designed by nature or by God (whatever you wish) to reproduce and multiply”.
Just like having by birth two eyes, two arms.
By birth, you DO NOT CHOOSE how many brains or hearts you have. And if you accidentally have two hearts or no genitlas, it’s a “BIRTH/CONGENITAL DEFECT”, it’s not your choice.

So, your presumptions are wrong, I think.

“If you say that homosexuality is a “belief”, you will have to say that all congenital malformations, like, for instance, primary mental deficiency or syphilitic congenital oligophrenia is a “belief,” too.”

Regarding mental deficiencies, while I acknowledge that physical abnormalities will affect cognitive abilities, I do not grant that it does so, directly.

I view the intellect as part of the soul, and I view the physical brain as the means by which the immaterial soul interacts with the physical world, such that the capacity for rational thought is independent of anything physical, but the information passed to the soul through our brain can be disrupted.

So, if someone is born with a mental disorder, it‘s because the damaged brain doesn’t allow their soul to accept the same kinds of information everybody else gets. But if their brain got fixed, their soul would be able to accept normal information, and they would be able to start learning from it.

In the case of brain damage later in life, I suspect that, like what happens when we get distracted by something and forget some things, for them it’s a far more intense distraction to have different information being sent through a damaged brain – or even a noticable (for them) LACK of certain kinds of information.

The constant distraction takes their focus, and this seems to us as a lack of cognition.

Besides, we want to be able to say that our beliefs are grounded in reality, right? If my beliefs are affected by a Hitler shirt, then maybe my beliefs aren’t sound?

Just throwing it out there but I didn’t wake up one day and say to myself “I choose to be straight.” I was naturally attracted to be with women and repulsed by the thought of being with men. I never had to think about it, it’s just how it is. I believe not only is homosexuality against God’s design for the world but even if you take God out of the conversation, it’s just plain unnatural. Now I’m not debating you weather who we lay with is a choice or not. That being said, if it really is a choice then The Gay choosing to be that way is something I will never understand.

We don’t say to ourselves “I refuse to cut myself”, either, and yet there are cutters who choose to focus only on the silver lining of bad choices.

In the matter of homosexuality, presumably gays understand that all of the physical relations are better facilitated with women (Not the best argument, for purposes of this discussion, granted).

If gays say they want someone strong, then why would someone who wanted a weaker partner not instead opt for a woman, since women want someone stronger AND they better facilitate physical relations.

In fact, the gays who act more like women are inadvertently conceeding my argument, in that they KNOW men and women are different and are attempting to use that knowledge for their bizarre purposes.

So, there’s some glaring inconsistencies with the gay lifestyle.

But beyond that, there’s a study that someone from NARTH did that shows that the gay lifestyle is an attempt to reclaim a lost sense of gender identity. They admire manly men, so they seek to be accepted by them, for example.

@A DOCTORS LABOR IS NOT MY RIGHT:

“Gays should be allowed to do whatever they want with themselves,” you said.

I have two things to say regarding this sentence:

      1. I am not an adherent of political correctness and therefore don’t accept the word “gay” as an euphemism for “homosexual.”

      A historical note:
Gay as a noun meaning “a (usually male) homosexual” is attested from 1971.

The word “gay”, meaning “wanton, lewd, lascivious,” is known from late 12th Century, when it was used as a surname, for instance – Philippus de Gay.
The Meaning “stately and beautiful; splendid and showily dressed” is from early 14th Century.
From late 14th Century, the word is known also as “full of joy, merry; light-hearted, carefree,” but Geoffrey Chaucer already suggests immorality in the word:

But in oure bed he was so fressh and gay
Whan that he wolde han my bele chose.

By the 1890s, the word “gay” had an overall tinge of promiscuity — a gay house was a brothel.

Slang adjective meaning “homosexual” begins to appear in psychological writing late 1940s, evidently picked up from homosexuals slang and not always easily distinguished from the older sense:
“… A.Z. was not happy at the farm and went to a Western city where he associated with a homosexual crowd, being “gay,” and wearing female clothes and makeup. He always wished others would make advances to him.”

@A DOCTORS LABOR IS NOT MY RIGHT:

      p.240]

      Continuation:

The association with (male) homosexuality likely got a boost from the term “gay cat,“ used as far back as 1893 in American English for ”young hobo,” one who is new on the road, also one who sometimes does jobs:

“A Gay Cat,” said he, “is a loafing laborer, who works maybe a week, gets his wages and vagabonds about hunting for another ‘pick and shovel’ job. Do you want to know where they got their monica (nickname) ‘Gay Cat’? See, Kid, cats sneak about and scratch immediately after chumming with you
and then get gay (fresh). That‘s why we call them ’Gay Cats’.”
[Leon Ray Livingston ("America's Most Celebrated Tramp"), "Life and Adventures of A-no. 1," 1910]

The “Dictionary of American Slang” reports that adjective “gay” was used by homosexuals, among themselves, in this sense since at least 1920.
Rawson ["Wicked Words"] notes a male prostitute using gay in reference to male homosexuals (but also to female prostitutes) in London’s notorious Cleveland Street Scandal of 1889.

Ayto ["20th Century Words"] calls attention to the ambiguous use of the word in the 1868 song “The Gay Young Clerk in the Dry Goods Store,” by U.S. female impersonator Will S. Hays, but the word evidently was not popularly felt in this sense by wider society until at least the 1950s.

      2. Back to your sentence.

No, I disagree. We aren’t a theocracy. Our Constitutional Republic is designed to respect personal freedom for everyone. This is why our Founders recognized that government shouldn’t play favorites with any one religion.

Please understand that when you give government the power to define morality you leave the door open for people to come in, who disagree with you, and decide to redefine it again, how THEY like it. This is why government is to be limited.

Maybe, this is why I hate obamacare that includes kids” – ha! kids! – up to 26 years of age. Kids my ass! Why not to call such “kids” what they are – loafers?

I don’t regret a second that I was not involved in any sexual activity before I married.
Instead, I learned many things that most of Americans have not even slightest clue about.

The President appointed a homosexual czar to be in charge of the school curriculums.. I remember on the Blaze not long ago that a 13 yr olds were reading from textbooks about a 13 yr girl having an affair with a 32 yr old woman..This is how to demoralize a nation from the Communist perspective..

      To BENKATZ:
May I express a very seditious thought?
I can’t exclude a possibility that this young homosexual jerk pretends to be a homosexual because all girls rejected his sexual claims…-;)
But if to speak seriously, I not only “think”, I am 100% certain that Americans in general and the youth in particular are intentionally over-sexualized.
“Sexualization” was well known and practiced by Bolsheviks in the young Soviet Russia (mid 1920s – beginning of 1930s, with Alexandra Kollontai as a theorist and practitioner of a theory of “Glass Water”) as a method to “tune” the society against so-called “bourgeois institution of marriage.”
In America it was injected mostly by Soviet “agents of influence”, first, in the Beatniks movements in late 1950s, and then – in hippies movement, particularly – their Sexual Revolution 1967.
So, infamous slogans of our days “No Peace – No *****” are not something new.
The goal of demoralizing the nation was explicitly announced by the Communist Party of the USA (see The Communist Takeover of America, published in 1963.)

So, this young kid is a result of our, PARENTAL, negligence or flippancy.
Kids not just forgot, they don’t even know that sex MUST be closely tied to and with LOVE.
Sex without love is not much different from defecation – simply a biological function.
Practicing such pure biological attitude (very much promoted in the USA) dehumanizes people but don’t convert them into animals: animals copulate

I am so sick of you numbskulls that constantly quote the bible. The book contradicts itself numerous times and everyone interprets it in their own way based on their own thought and experiences. Adolf Hitler could have found authority in the bible for the holocaust based on his interpretation; look at the Westboro Baptist Church as an example, they read the same bible all of you do — some of you commenting sound like you could be members as a matter of fact. Liberate yourselves from religion and ancient texts in particular — you sound ridiculous.

Was it his school that taught him how and with whom to copulate? I mean, instead of literature, algebra, physics, geometry, classical music, geography, history, organic and inorganic chemistry, astronomy, trigonometry, philosophy, poetry, work practice….

The outcome is being shown of the infiltration done of the Homos within our schools. It continues…and parents with children really should be considering Homeschooling! They are After our children…the future,…. is this young man going to be representative of ‘the future’ with increasing number of homos? Don’t be deceived parents out there that this immoral way of living should just be considered as just another way to live…Face it! God made Male and Female, each with their own purpose in life, each made different. How dare he use “Jesus” Name, when the they go around touting that the bible is something of antiquity with no purpose or meaning, to which you can cast it aside. The homos hate what the Bible states about Homosexuality being a Perversion, an Abomination worthy of death…etc. Yet this boy is using Jesus’s name to promote Sinful behavior as stated in Scripture. Hypocrite! The adult Homos use the younger kids to push their agenda. Homeschool parents! This disease is spreading rapidly!

It’s hard to believe many postings on here are from Christians. The hate, venom, and anger are not Christian values. Even when proclaiming your belief that a sexuality is a sin there is no need for the venom.

I would think many need to rethink what Christianity really is about. If you have violence, hate, or intentional hurt as your motive some conversation with God may be in order.

Jesus wasn’t afraid of homosexuals. He wasn’t afraid of the devil even when the devil repeatedly tried to tempt Him. Jesus doesn’t hate anyone. He did lose patience at times when someone tried to keep Him from His mission which included bringing salvation. But neither did Jesus promote homosexuality no more than He promoted promiscuity. Jesus is the Prince of Peace. Honor Him by not promoting homosexuality.

Schools should worry about reading and math no social messages which should left to the parents.

Because society; which is sick, says something doesn’t mean that it is; I read the Word of God and go by what that says. It over-rules everything else.
