Schultz Fail: Will MSNBC Host Admit His Rally Prediction on Friday Tanked?

Through the end of last week, MSNBC host Ed Schultz believed Saturday’s One Nation march was going to be a hit. On Friday he predicted that the liberal rally was going to draw “over 300,000″:

(H/T: NewsBusters)

You might remember that he made a similar prediction on his radio show in early September:

At least he’s consistent. However, as we have pointed out, even the mainstream media is estimating rally attendance between 100,000 to 200,000, and has pointed out that Glenn Beck’s 8/28 rally drew far more.

The Washington Post goes as far as to reference the event’s organizers as saying the rally “drew a crowd of 175,000 people,” and then adds an interesting caveat: “about what they expected.”

Unfortunately for Ed, that could mean two things: neither WaPost nor event organizers listen to, or watch, his show.

Either way, the unofficial-official estimation from “event organizers” raises an interesting question: will Ed admit that his “over 300,000″ prediction — on two occasions — was wrong?

If that was 100K – 200K, then 8/28 had 2 million………. because the size of Beck’s crowd is easily 10 times bigger. Ed barely has 300K views on TV. I guess they didn’t hire enough people or give them enough FREE stuff to get them there………..I‘m just sayin’

Having been at 9/12, 8/28 and seen a packed stadium at Michigan, I would hazard a guess of 100k.
But how many of those were paid, bused in, offered free food and lodging?
At 8/28 we stood with a couple who had driven from South Dakota on their own dime. It’s not just how many people were there , but their respect for others and the venue. I guess the purpose of trashing the mall was to “create” more union jobs.

I totally agree, Suzanne. I cannot stand it when someone cannot admit their mistakes. Ed has never been on my list of people to go to for the news. However, I occasionally flip to MSNBC, but only when Fox is having commercials…because it is just one flip of the down arrow channel away from Fox, but oh, how I cannot stand to stay there. I really think that liberalism, like someone said, is a mental disease. They get my blood boiling. Ed is so annoying. I was glad when CNN dumped Rick Sanchez, and now I’m hoping MSNBC will fire Schultz. We could instigate things, but I don’t think we need to because he seems like the kind of guy that will cross the line soon enough on his own. But then, I don’t know, because MSNBC seems to love those hate-filled extremists. I don’t understand how MSNBC pays their bills, but you’d think they have to get low on money soon. They have to be getting supplemented by someone. Perhaps Soros or the unions or the DNC or ACLU, who knows. But how long can they go on throwing all that money away.

Moonpeace – I also flip to MSNBC when Fox is in commercial break. Known thine enemy, right? Anyway, Schultz will, undoubtedly, say something completely disastrous and will be his own undoing. Give Schultz enough rope and he’ll take care of the rest. Like you’ve mentioned, Sanchez tied his own slip knot.

This morning’s “Morning Joe” opened with the motley crew nodding and nodding and nodding about Obama’s (and his administration’s) complete lack of business experience causing the business community to hold on to their money and to stave off hiring until the confusion Obama has created (taxes and regulations) are more clearly defined (if ever). Now, wasn’t it “we the people” that said this same thing about a year an a half ago which the Progressive cult denied? Absolutely. Maybe, just maybe, they’re coming around to some sort of mini-sanity.

How does MSNBC pay their bills? Jeffrey Immet, CEO of the whole shebang, in addition to being a hand-picked member (wonder why) of Obama’s Economic Advisory Board, is running through the stockholder’s money like sugar through a goose – in addition to using that same stockholder money to propagandize Obama’s plans and policies via MSNBC and NBC (television and radio). GE stockholders can’t be too happy about that. With MSNBC and NBC being always at the bottom of the ratings, it’s the only logical explanation. That and the fact that GE is/was selling weapons parts to Iran (are they still doing that, or, did they finally stop?).

      @Joseph_Plumb_Martin,

      A few quick points..

The article states that it was Beck’s first appearance since 8/28, which I found interesting, since I heard that he was in Alaska with Sarah Palin on 9/11, which I believe falls after 8/28.

Secondly, the rally in D.C. was a national call to “Restore Honor”. Although I wasn’t able to be there, a good friend was able to go and apparently all the speakers focused on renewing our country, not running down the various political candidates.

Third, the event at Six Flags was a political fund raiser, and more of a local event rather than a national event. 700 is a good showing, and because they didn’t fill the 8,000 seat theater doesn‘t mean they couldn’t have. It just means they didn’t.

Sharpton & Co. held a rally on 8/28 also. Is the fact that they didn’t pull the same number as Beck a problem? No. The problem comes in when one has Ed Schultz running his mouth off and claiming that he could get a bigger crowd than Beck did. It never was a numbers game until that happened, but looking at the photos, it’s clear who had more people.

Sharpton has already backed away from the numbers game…he relies on the fact that 10-2 had more “diversity” then 8-28. If by bussing in SEIU and ACORN members from lower income districts qualifies as diversity, then he’s probably got a point. Beck’s rally attracted people from across the country…10-2 brought in busses of people from across the street.

I don’t think being Conservative is a matter of being right over wrong. I think it is just a better way to live life. So every progressive organization on the planet chipped in to try and make this a big deal and it flopped. The victory isn’t in belittling Ed or even progressives. The victory is in the fact that there are more people that share our values than theirs and not only that, but conservatives are mobilizing in vast numbers and change is on our door step and we can make a difference! Let’s not gloat over this one event, let’s make sure we keep our momentum and continue the push forward. Let’s not be divisive, let’s have sophisticated and productive dialogue. @COFX I would agree with you. It is important. Quite frankly I am tired of feeling like I am in the minority. For pretty much my entire adult life it seems like Washington has taken a position entirely opposite from my views on the issues (do you scream at the newspaper or tv on a daily basis too?). At least after taking note of the size of the comparable attendance and behaviors of the two groups I believe there may be a glimmer of hope that the tide is FINALLY beginning to turn in my favor. I pray for that daily. Thank you God for that glimmer of hope.

      @ Smarterthanyou:

The crowd size issue was something Schultz has been talking about for a month.
This was never an issue for Glenn when the 8/28 rally took place and was never a competition.
Shultz claimed the rally was not in response to 8/28 but then immediately says “Oh well get 300 thousand, absolutely!”

He also says he wants to show conservatives when “Big Ed starts cranking on something he doesnt back down til it’s finished” and adds that the 10/2 rally will not be a bunch of “angry people”

All of this is about HIS need for competition in response to Beck’s 8/28.
The crowd size is just a part of it. Did he pay attention to 8/28 because there were ZERO angry people at that rally.

By the way… someone said it earlier and I will reiterate: Take a stand and be ruled by your convictions. Don’t sit on the fence of neutrality.

Beck vs. Schultz, trash, to me they are just side stories. The real story here is that the democrats joined with the communist party to march on Washington last Saturday any true American that votes for a democrat after that is got to be out of their mind!
