Instructors at ‘Occupied’ Seattle College Now Teaching Courses on the Movement

Occupy Classes Now Taught at Seattle College

Supporters of Occupy Seattle have reportedly “occupied” lectures at Seattle Central Community College. And now, according to the Seattle Times, instructors who work at the college have started teaching classes in support of the movement:

“The classes are scheduled to be held in the plaza of Seattle Central Community College. They will focus on subjects such as legislative lobbying, the art of the protest sign and filming to document human rights violations.”

MSNBC reports that the ‘Occupy’ classes began at SCCC Sunday night, and were titled “Why We Support Occupy,“ ”The Art of the Protest Sign,“ and ”Filming to Document Human Rights Violations.”

Occupy Seattle protesters moved their location to Seattle Central Community College Saturday after administrators said they would tolerate protesters camping on campus.

Occupy Classes Now Taught at Seattle College

“We’re excited to work with Occupy Seattle in recognition of the fact that the employees and students of the Seattle community colleges are the 99 percent,” said Karen Strickland, president of the American Federation of Teachers-Seattle to KOMO News. The SCCC president has said that legal ambiguities allow the encampment at the community college.

President Kilpatrick told KOMO that while he has allowed the camp, he fears it will end up costing the school up to $100,000 in extra security. Protesers are welcome to enter classrooms if invited by a faculty member. Since the Occupy Seattle protests began four weeks ago there have been nearly 60 arrests.

Been saying this for some time now. The progressives, marxist socialist pinko’s, communists, have controlled the upper schools for many years now and have a solid foothold in that realm. We let this happen in the name of education.

I can assure you that in a little while, they’ll get an education in ways they never amagined.

Typical college movement, the incubator of all social ills. Teachers are afraid they will be out of a job as their training services have not served us well. There is no market for occupations that can’t make any money but cost hundreds of thousands to acquire. Basically schools have socialized themselves out of a job. You don’t need a college degree to collect welfare. Anything worth doing can’t be done here so what are we training for? The missing element is relentless personal pursuit to a personal goal, colleges can’t teach that as they can only destroy it with a trophy for everyone. They are trying to channel it to social issues but that doesn’t pay well at all. Jessie and Al have already sucked up all the money there.

Obama is the biggest enemy and threat to America in my entire lifetime. He is a traitor and those behind and encouraging OWS are also traitors. Especially the colleges and so called professors. They are American’s 5th column who took money for education but only indoctrinated their students. This won’t end well for anyone involved in OWS. Regardless of how low or high they happen to be on the totem pole.

Well…lemme see if i got this right..(not college educated)…A handful of really rich people want the rest of the rich people to pay more money because it will in turn go into the handfuls pocket…Meanwhile, the same handful are helping these students learn more ways to follow their dreams not to work, not to pay for their house, or bills for that matter, live like bums, act like they’re from a third world country, shut down the businesses they say they support, totally destroy and trash city parks (thought they were for the green movement) Throw rocks and bottles at police and actually say ” It’s o.k….they where in riot gear”…Sounds to me this program will be good for them…At least they will learn something for once….I would just like to ask them what they will do once they get all these rich peoples money? Who will be left to pay for their schooling, house, car and their dream?…Oh, but they will have good un-funded health care…Basics I learned from my childhood (not a college)..After you eat the last one…there’s no more left…Wake up college kids…The Obamas.Pelosis, Reids, Van Jones, Acorn, SEIU, AFL/CIO are all really rich…Asking you to target the people who actually pay all the bills…Who will you turn too after they take all that money ?…Do you really think these people will support you after?..Most of them haven’t paid ANY taxes in many (that means more than one .that’s for the brainwashed college kid) years. You are fighting the wrong peo

It seems to me with such a generous invitation, the American Federation of Teachers-Seattle would be more than willing to pay for the extra security, insurance and liability for the OWS crowd… or is that now OCC (Occupy Community Colleges). Perhaps the legislature should clear up those “legal ambiguities” so our community colleges don’t become infested in the future.

The teach-in is organized by the American Federation of Teachers-Seattle, Local 1789 (AFT Seattle), representing 1000 teachers at local community colleges. Yesterday, AFT Seattle passed a resolution in support of Occupy Seattle’s plan to camp on the Seattle Central Campus.

The intent of the teach-in is to demonstrate support for the Occupy Seattle movement, part of a national protest against the vastly increasing disparity of wealth, a political process manipulated by money, the shameful neglect of education in this country. AFT Seattle believes the massive de-funding of higher education in Washington is undermining our prosperity, our society, and our democracy.

“We feel it’s vital to show the city–and the world–that the concerns of many faculty at our institutions resonate with the Occupy movement,” says Karen Strickland, president of AFT Seattle. “Our decision to endorse OS coming to Seattle Central is important. Several months ago we decided to launch our Enough Already campaign to raise awareness about the de-funding of our institutions. The OS movement offers us an opportunity to move forward with our goals.”

The average income of the top 1% increased from around $500,000 in 1994 to 1,137,000 in 2008. The average income of the 99% was $41,333 in 1994 and rose to only $43,372 in 2008, while student tuition has more than doubled ($432 in 1994, $910 in 2008, $1180 2011), and now covers 50.6% of the cost of their education, compared with 29% in

I have to agree with you, it is shameful how teachers and teachers unions have neglected to educate America’s youth. Private schools, charter schools and home schooling will solve that problem. It is time to cut the legs out from under teachers unions who are more concerned with their own political power than the education of American children.

How teaching a course in “How the International Left is Brainwashing American Youths ? ” In other words, these people should NOT be allowed to teach such biased courses without presenting an opposing point of view. This mess is exactly why we are in this indoctrinated Far Left mess we are in today. The USSR might have disappeared from the maps, but its ideology is alive and thriving in the good old US of A ! Barack Obama got a good dose of it in his studies which might be why we are not “allowed” to see his school records ! His mentors and his stint at the “communist university of southern California ” to name but a few. Our colleges and universities need a good “investigation” regarding bias and a good house- cleaning where it is rampant. In my opinion, our tax funded schools are classic examples of ” taxation without representation.” There is only a huge body of Left Liberal points of view being taught. Conservative thought is not presented.
