Seattle Mayor Warns of Potential Violence at ‘May Day’ Protest

The Seattle Mayor’s Office issued a press release Friday warning of potential violence, property damage and intent to disrupt peaceful protest for this Tuesday’s “May Day” marches. The release stated the office had evidence “other people may be coming to Seattle” and cites some websites have been giving instruction for how to conceal weapons and target authorities. At the same time, the mayor is stating that action is being taken to ensure the safety of peaceful protesters and the public at large.

Here’s exactly what the release said with regard to the potential for violent action (via Capitol Hill Seattle):

We also have evidence that other people may be coming to Seattle on Tuesday with the intention of using the public demonstrations as an opportunity to commit violence, damage property and disrupt peaceful free speech activity. There has been a significant increase in graffiti and posters alluding to violence around the May 1 events. Websites have described trainings in how to conceal weapons beneath signs and banners, and how to target police officers on horses. At a protest at the Port of Seattle in December 2011, several people used peaceful demonstrators as a shield to throw projectiles and incendiary devices at police officers.

Early Thursday morning an incendiary device was thrown at a bank in Columbia City. This was similar to an attack on a bank that took place in Portland late Wednesday night.

Seattle Police command staff and Mayor’s Office staff have been working with protest organizers, property owners, and other stakeholders to facilitate peaceful, constitutional demonstrations. Officers will respond appropriately to criminal acts and threats or harm directed against participants, non-participants, and property.

The May Day protests take place each year in remembrance of the 1919 Seattle General Strike, which was largely peaceful and had 60,000 port workers and thousands of other supporters advocating for higher wages. It effectively shut down the city. This year marks the 12th annual time the May Day March for Workers and Immigrant Rights have been taking place in the city. Capitol Hill Seattle reports last year’s march was peaceful.

Here’s why the annual march takes place according to one of the event organizers May 1 Seattle:

We are striking to halt the flow of capital, reclaim a tool of resistance, and unify movements against exploitation, repression, and corruption. You should join the movement and strike because: everyone else will be doing it and it’ll be fun and empowering. But more importantly, join because you’ve experienced exploitation, repression, and corruption, and you are aware of their impact around you. Join if you are forced to work and consume; if you want to have a choice for an alternative.

By general strike, we mean everyone from all walks of life halting their role in producing, consuming, and participating within the current system. We invite the precarious workers, unemployed, undocumented, students, and everyone to join.

Occupy Seattle is calling for supporters to take to the streets as well on May 1 against the “current excess of capitalism” and the “system itself.”

    What the Hell! It’s Seattle ferchrissakes! They should be HAPPY to EMBRACE the workers and May Day hanger-ons. I suppose they are blaming the gun dealers, though, of allowing White Supremacists straw sales of weapons, that then get sold on the street at a profit (Damn Capitalism!) in the hands of the anarchists, communists, socialists, and local teachers.       Seattle is nice on the surface in terms of buildings, scenery, etc., but the people are really awful. I have lived all over U.S., and Seattle is dead last in terms of genuine, decent, warm people. They are grown children, which is odd, because they hate children (ie., don’t have them, abort them at record levels, teach them horrible things, etc.).

      Seattle is basically a marxist breeding ground. They take YOUR kids and transform them into marxo-zombie. These are militant people. If it involves the dark side of life (drugs, anarchy, death, mutilation) they love it. If it involves beauty, they hate it.

      This is Seattle. Portland too.

Why do we think Obama signed one of his latest “executive” orders against free speech and the one about a “national emergency”? Socialism&Communism turn basic human nature on its head: Human nature is to attend to the needs of one’s self and family first, then friends, community, nation/larger group, in that order. Soc&Com assume that people will place the needs of the state/collective at the top of the list, with needs of self/family at the bottom. Soc&Com also assume that people will behave perfectly according to the state’s ideals.

    “Everyone else will be doing it and it’ll be fun and empowering.” That’s it in one line. because the police, administrations, courts have been using kid gloves, their is no blowback. It’s todays Woodstock, it’s a happening, let’s destroy, lets steal some stuff. If their were hundreds of arrests, and months in jail, with criminal records, this might cause some second thougts.

    Glad someone is aware of the Canadian Adbusters’ OWS organization. Also all of the Affinity groups allied anti-capitalist/ anti-American and the anarchist / hoodie groups who are planning to join in on the NEXT ASSAULT on the American, law abiding, tax paying, possibly church-going , sucker American. You know, the guys ALL of these dysfunctional guys hate and want to suffer “social justice ” punish. Thank you, mayor of the Far Left city of Seattle. Pity the poor Washington tax payers who will be burdened with funding the destruction these little gangsters have planned to “punish” the laws and the adults that they hate and have been encouraged by the Obama Far Left Alinsky Trained Democrats to target.     Do you think this would happen with Tea Party Rally organizers? Not no, but hell no. Cities like this will bend over backwards for the destructive anarchists, but will give truly peaceful groups an extreme difficult time and lay on requirements for insurance, an extraordinary number of portable toilets, and so forth. If not turned down outright.

    These cities may well bring upon themselves what they deserve. After the destruction I wonder if their idiot politicians will start to be thrown from office.

      One thing though you don’t need any permits
      because socialist/communist Rats are considered
      an invasive species so they should be completely
      eradicated.So with knowing this I suggest a bounty
      of $10.00 for every tag filled or $10.00 of fresh ammo.
      To confirm the tag has been filled you need 1 ear
      per tag,how many ears do you think it would take to make a nice neckless.
