Security Camera Captures Brutal Beating of Army Soldier in Florida

Army Soldier Brutally Beaten in TampaThe first punch seemingly comes out of nowhere. The kicks to the head shortly follow. And before you realize it, it’s a full on beating.

That describes the brutal attack on an Army soldier in Tampa, FL, in the wee hours of Sunday morning. The soldier, 24-year-old Johnny Aparico, has only lived there for about a month. And he received a rude welcoming when his car broke down at 3 am and he was trying to walk home. WTSP-TV explains:

The attack came when he was walking home and using Iowa St. to get from Westshore to Dale Mabry. At the intersection of Iowa and Renellie Dr., the man came into the view of a neighbor’s motion-activated security camera.

A group of three young men is seen walking ahead of the soldier. Police say one of the men in the group doubled back and asked to soldier to borrow a dollar. When the soldier reached for his wallet, the first punch flew.

The first, tremendous sucker punch laid the victim onto the ground. The other two men joined in, punching and kicking the soldier.

A fourth man comes sprinting into view from the left edge of the video. The new attacker — a man the soldier said he had walked past earlier — joined in the beating.

The attackers stole the Aparico’s wallet and phone, and he had to stumble to several houses nearby to try and get someone to call 911.

“It’s shocking,” Tampa Police Lt. Mary O’Connor told WTSP. “We need to find out who these individuals are.”

So far the assailants are on the loose. They are described as black and Hispanic of medium build.

Now that Aparico — who’s stationed at nearby MacDill Air Force Base, is recovering, his friends are trying to raise money to furnish his apartment, since he arrived with only what he could fit in his car:

    Congrats you were led exactly where the story intended you to go. Not too hard to satisfy the angry mob. There are crimes like this everyday on the US that are committed by all types of individuals. And surprise, surprise some are even white. Take the time to read the chapter in Freakenomics regarding why drug dealers still live with their mom and perhaps you’ll gain some insight.

      All of this is what liberal tolerance and relative morality deliver. No question. You will always get more of whatever you are willing to tolerate in society. Had that guy defended himself with a lethal weapon, and taken them all out, the world would be a better place today, though the media would have excoriated him for it. That needs to change.

      If the young soldier and those assailants had all been armed, and the youngsters understood “stand your ground” laws; then the beating incident would never have happened in the first place.

      Laws must be enacted obliging United States citizens at age 15 to own firearms (like the Swiss) and safely carry them concealed at all times. There should also be compulsive military service for 2 years at the age of 16 (like the Israelis). Of course any unfit for duty civilian citizenry would need to be NRA trained and need to be holding valid state or municipal CCW permits.

      Why can’t people understand it is not only your right to keep and bear arms, but it is your duty? If those dirtbags knew there was a high probability that the soldier would be armed, the cowards would have left him alone. If people don’t start exercising their rights, they will be taken away, and most people will just say, “Well, I didn’t carry a firearm anyway… and the police will protect me.”

      Huh???/ This officer finds this beating shocking? I’m not at all shocked. This is a common everyday occurrence. Hoodie wearing black thugs traveling in packs seeking out a white victim. Hello? sound familiar? It’s not even news anymore. And who among us is shocked by their brutality? The young soldier is lucky to be alive. Summer is upon us. These creatures favor the warm weather. They will be out in droves stalking their prey. Never walk anywhere alone. Even the “safe areas” are not off limits to them.       These thugs were probably jealous that this kid is making a good life serving in the ARMY. Once his buddies get any leads to who may have attacked him, its all over for these thugs.

      When I was serving in the USMC, we had some similar instaces where some of our buddies got beaten up out in town. We didn‘t call the police when we zero’d in on the perps. We took matters in our own hands and beat these thugs (yes they were black) and so were some of our hit team, we beat these a-holes to within an inch of their life. Our guys never had anymore problems out in town from then on!

      I don’t live too far from there & I may just go down with my little friends Mr Glock & Mr Ruger and take alittle midnight stroll thru that area.

      This exact thing happened to me about twelve years ago in Chicago. I found myself at a gas station well after midnight outside of my car. I was approched by three black teens, travon type teens. They asked for money. I gave them a couple of coins in my pocket and proceded to go to pay for my gas. When I turned back to my car there they were in front of me. “No man, we mean MONEY” was what one of them said. I looked him in the eye and said “Has it gotten to the point you BUMS won’t take what you are given” ? I walked through them back to my car and left. I did not have my gun with me (Chicago), but was able to bluff my way through it. I‘m not so sure I could pull it off in today’s world.

      JROOK- The angry mob? The angry mob just violently beat an american soldier who keeps US citizenry safe so you can spout your pacifist logic. You were pretty smug in your response to the appropriately placed anger that many have regarding this story. Inflammatory comments only heighten the very thing you are protesting: a mob like anger.
      The world is full of evil and this does happen all over the US….you got that right.
      What you don’t get is that (in the US) we don’t have to take the beatings…we can defend ourselves and with deadly force if necessary. If you were being attacked brutally by 4 or 5 young males and I happened upon the beating and was carrying a concealed weapon….you bet I would come to your defense.

      THERIGHTSOFBILLY, I lived in Tampa for a good part of the ’70s. This kind of assault and robbery were somewhat common back then as well. Just that most of the assailants did not have a mix with Hispanics then. Many times Hispanics were victims too.

      Oops, correction on last. Back in the ’70s there was a lot of Hispanic related crime but, only when the migrant farm workers were near the city in Riverview and Ruskin working mostly the tomato fields. When they departed, suddenly the crime sprees ended.

      Let’s be careful not to jump to conclusions that this is a “hate crime” – no reason to act like the left. For one, we were not there and do not know what the motive was (his skin color may not have had anything to do with it), according to the story, it was one guy vs. several cowards (that is how they seem to roll). “Hate Crimes” are one of the silliest “crimes” this country has enacted IMHO; hate is a moral issue and the government has no business legislating it. The beating IS a serious crime however, and I certainly hope that these animals are caught and get the maximum punishment that the law allows. Too bad this soldier wasn’t carrying protection but hopefully it will encouragement many to start carrying.

      with the speed of this attack I doubt anyone could have pulled a gun to defend himself. Maybe it is time to have a buddy discretely behind you maybe a 100 feet or so with a gun.       @imawakenow, Part of carrying is also having situational awareness. My guess is that his military training made this poor man over confident that he could handle himself. Never allow them to get that close and always be expecting an attack from strangers. None of us are living in Mayberry.

    I wonder which one looks like the son that Odumba could have had. There are two sets of laws in this country. One for white people that severely limits penalties for blacks attacking white people and the other standard that permits blacks to charge hate crimes have been committed against them. The hate crime only applies to blacks being attacked by white people and not whites being attacked by afriggen americans.

      Mil-Dot- I honestly believe most people were asleep at the wheel until now and DID NOT believe any of this was going on… If you live in the REAL world and not DC, you know who the real thugs are, you know where and WHO the real problems are….
      I agree, once Republicans take back the WH and the Congress, they need to repeal/change every bit of this OR maybe even actually apply it EQUALLY…. It amaze’s me that the Left always talks about Equallity and Tolerance and their system has no use for Equallity or Tolerance…
      The ONE thing I give Obama credit for- is finally waking America up to the injustice‘s NOT caused by white’s….For showing how Racist the DOJ and the WH really is… Can you imagine if the WH had Bush in and any of this crap had happened then???     We are truly a nation without a moral compass. How did we allow our children to treat people this way? It is time for all law abiding people to arm themselves for their own protection. I do not care if you are white, black, brown, yellow, orange, or purple, you need to be able to protect yourself from thugs like these people. When a few of these thugs are shot and killed when they attack others, it will be a deterrent for the other thugs. Would you attack someone who is armed? Would you take the chance that the person you want to attack is not armed? Communities need to come together and rid themselves of these two-bit thugs. Let these thugs know that people will not put up with this type of violence. There will be a day when people will be tired of being afraid, when that day comes it will be like the Wild West, and only the thugs will be to blame.

      This has been going on for decades in this country, just getting more of it on video because its now so widely used on home, store front surveillance systems. Its sad for sure, but military folks have been getting mugged as far back as I can remember. Must use prudent operational security even of base, walking home alone, late at night is not a good idea EVER.

It’s very informative and runs stories you will not see anyplace else. He broke the Clinton/ Lewinski affair and the others followed. The left loathes him. You should check it out sometime.     1. Curfew closing Tampa streets at 10 p.m. (unless you are going to or coming from work and can prove it; or there is an emergency situation that takes you onto the streets – this also means you’ll need a valid government issued photo ID)
    2. Arrest and jail all “Night Thugs” caught on street after curfew – (that would be anyone on the street after 10 p.m. without proper authority.)
    3. Pass the “Night Thug Law,” that anyone accosting, threatening, demanding or asking for money, punching, slapping or otherwise harming a citizen of the U.S. will be jailed for a minimum 2 years in state prison.

    I live in Tampa. In fact, my grandfather lived about 2 miles north of MacDill back in the ‘80’s, just off Dale Mabry and Marlin Ave, just south of Gandy. This is the classic example of wrong place, wrong time.

    Port Tampa is a rough part of town in the daytime. I won’t even go down there at night.

      Let’s be realistic. Bad neighborhoods will exist anywhere on earth. Yes, there even bad neighborhoods in Greenwich, CT. I’ve seen ghettos in many states and many countries, from the US, Japan, Guam, Australia, and (surprise!) Mexico. They exist everywhere. Wishing that they didn’t is admirable, but let’s get real.

      Now… that said, the neighborhood in question is long-known as a rough neighborhood and yes, it should be cleaned out, *but* we also have almost the entire length of Martin Luther King and Nebraska Aves and Suitcase City (around the University of South Florida in North Tampa) that also need to be cleaned out.

      What we‘ve got here is a city that’s been run by Dems and Establishment Progressive Republicans for entirely too long but no law-and-order Conservative will be elected because, while Hillsborough County is Red, inside Tampa city limits is cobalt blue.

      Luckily, to quote a phrase, we surround them.
