    Atlas Spread-Eagled

Well, are we not supposed to be protected against “unreasonable searches and seizures”? [Please refer to the 4th amendment to the U.S. Constitution, or has it become so irrelevant as to be meaningless]. Has it become necessary in this day and age of concerns over terrorism that we no longer consider the idea of full-body scans or ‘enhanced’ pat-downs as ‘unreasonable’, not to mention the part about possibly having our ‘junk’ seized. At least, in most instances, I guess we don’t have to worry about our ‘junk’ being seized and taken away from us.
Notwithstanding the concerns over the unexplained possible effects on screened passengers or security personnel of repeated exposure to radiation levels (that do not appear to have been satisfactorily explained to the general public) we are told to believe that this is simply a needed measure to ensure the safety of the flying public. We were previously told that there would be no concerns about such pictures being stored or inappropriately shared. How about the 1000s of pictures (scans) that these machines are apparently storing and the fact that the machines have been able to send such scans over a network? Where is our personal security in that?
If you consider the full-body scans to be too invasive to your privacy, not to mention lingering concerns about radiation exposure (that to be honest I would have if I was a frequent traveler on airplanes – I’m not in the habit of going to the dentist more than twice a year and at least, there, I get to wear a lead-lined garment over my torso, covering my naughty-bits even), and deign to inform the security personnel that thanks, but no thanks, you choose not to be subjected to such a scan, you may simply be whisked off to a more ‘private’ location in order to receive the new and improved, (i.e., ‘enhanced’) pat-down to ensure that you are not surreptitiously endeavoring to bring onto a flight a pair of blow-me-up panties/tidy-whities or the latest in guerrilla-style IED footwear. Hmmm. Where are all those people who were indignant at ‘enhanced’ interrogations that actually did provide a useful and public safety-serving (i.e., anti-terrorism) purpose? I hope that this more private area is set up to get us in the proper mood to be groped and prodded, perhaps with a Leisure Suit Larry-esque décor to help provide the appropriate ambiance? Can anyone say, ‘Do I make you horny, baby?”
Well, no. I don’t expect most people being subjected to this indignity will find it particularly stimulating, although there are those to be sure who may find it titillating. Most people will probably come away feeling almost as bad as waking up the next morning with a bad hang-over clutching your bundled up clothing, etc., and trying to judiciously escape the memories of being used and abused, hopefully blessed by a certain amount of chemically-induced amnesia. Perhaps the airlines hope this will increase their sale of adult beverages on board flights. I know I could probably use one after such an experience.
I am sure that we can trust all of these government employees to go through the performance of their duties in a respectful and non-invasive manner, right? After all, they just have a job to do, one which it appears has been placed on them with what seems to be a serious lack of consideration. I don’t mean to say that the government has not done its due diligence in determining the best methodology to apply to pat-downs at the airport, but can we seriously say that the upper muckety-mucks have actually (without political correctness coloring every decision making point in the process) chosen the correct options for passenger screening? Take as one example El Al, Israel’s airline, that seems to be able to conduct its operations safely and, for the most part, without subjecting the majority of its passenger to such indignities. How do they accomplish this? Uh… they actually PROFILE and take into consideration that we don’t usually have problems with 80 year old grandmothers or our 3 year old children, among other tactics.
At what point do you think, with all of the public aggravation and outcry, do you think the government and, more to the point, the airlines will start to realize that they are going about this business of airport and airline security with one eye closed, dedicated to continue down a path that simply encourages resistance and the desire of the general public to seek out other alternatives. I can assure you that I do not look forward to the necessity of air travel in these circumstances and will continue to do all that I can to avoid it in fact. I’m not opposed to driving a little longer or further in order to go where I want to without being subjected to the niceties of the ‘new and improved passenger’ screening process. I wonder what effect there would be on airlines’ business if a substantial number of people decided to go the same route and choose not to utilize airlines as a choice in transportation anymore. Also, is it more polluting to have numerous people flying on airplanes around the country, or to have all those people driving around in their gas-guzzling alternatives?
I will simply leave you with this thought, using a well-known biblical quote as its basis. “As for me and my house, we will service ourselves. Thank you very much!”, and much as persons in the also well know book, Atlas Shrugged, decided to no longer help support a corrupted and unsustainable system, we will, with no regret, simply choose to opt out. Good day!

Genealogy pro-claimer – Yes Pres 43 did ask for the Patriot Act. Shame is in the hand of those that voted Yes, all the while knowing that there were loop holes of power abuse. The Congress from January 1, 2007 had the POWER to change this absurd law. Have they? The current President, via executive order, has enhanced a section or two that makes Pres 43 look meek.

Additionally, how does an agency (TSA, EPA, have the authority to make LAW? — And establish penalty? All outside of the Constitutional power of the Congress. Who gave these non elected bureaucrats the power with such dictatorial – autocratic authority?

The Ear Mark huff and puff is a Gateway avenue to abusive Omnibus bill legislation that hides the ability for an agency to do what ever they want inside of their assignment – kind of like the Gestapo or the Cheka-GPU. The EPA is near secret police authority.

I too have some skeletal remains of a Tory or two. Tories are the scum of the earth – they all want to return to the EU Feudal system.

You’re absolutely correct. This isn’t about security and if people continue to look at it as if it is they will never see the real problems involved. It is now, and always has been, about control. That was as true when Bush was president as it is now. Obama obviously knows exactly what’s going on. He just doesn‘t care and is simply doing his master’s bidding.

All of the solutions that are proposed are all to no purpose because this is being done to accomplish the goals of our true rulers. This isn’t a problem that developed with TSA. It was designed to work just the way it is. Incompetent people, paid little, given far too much power and protected under the color of law will always be a problem for normal people. It will just get worse as it spreads to other areas.

If terrorists truly want to target air travelers they will do it in the lines created by jamming passengers up at the screening areas.

Yes, and what will happen if a nut case (not a true terrorist) used one to slam into an airport terminal or a plane loaded with fuel and people just next to one. A terrorist doing so would be even worse by many orders of magnitude. (Chaos wise, and for what the Feds would do to us Americans.)

Several points. Israel has maybe 50 flights a day to deal with. Can we shoot the lawyers and start some modified type of profiling – hopefully yes to both . The bigger point is the sense of satisfaction the terrorist are getting from this, even now they are looking for a volunteer to be caught carry a bomb in his anal cavity. When that happens they will be rolling on the floor… barley able to contain themselves.

Heres an idea… close down TSA take the money normally for them and HIRE/ contract out US airport security to El Al security to retrain and manage our airport security and lets see what happens. You would think someone there who is an expert would start a security/ airport security consulting company and be doing just that. Kinda like Blackwater for airline industry.

The other side will argue they only have 40-50 flights a day and thats why they are so effective. I say so what we get as many as we need retrained proportionate to theirs to be as effective with 1000 flights as they are are with 50. I bet plenty ex military would be up for the jobt as well as ex law enforcement.

It would be nice to see some or all of them spend three months a year at the least living day to day as we all normally do; standing in the grocery lines at wal-mart or the thrift stores, etc.

The TSA is a joke, so its little wonder the President will not understand it. Consider this much though, based on what Beck and several other talkshow hosts have mentioned something else has occured to me; what will the Fed’s do to further restrict our freedoms when (not if, when) the next set of terror attacks hit in the front of the air terminals; when they set off car bombs in the parking lots, or use SAM-shoulder fired against a airplane just taking off or landing…even a failed attack could cause massive panic.

The beltway snipers and the anthrax attacks of a few years ago show just how badly a simple disruption would cause such chaos. And that may be why the Progressives and Soros are waiting to happen, or will engineer it.

Hows that one for communicating your message ! not. its all a lie. we as Americans are watching our Government fall to pieces while loosing the respect around the world. you can not keep telling one lie on top of another lie forever. it will always fall apart, in the end it will be the American people to pick up the pieces and right the wrongs of the Government. We will either do it, or we won’t. these times are going to be the test of all tests to see if we stand together or fall together. one thing that must always prevail is the truth, if we can’t get back to truth and honor in this country we will be done as a nation. there is no reason for this country to be in this situation. we are the greatest nation in the world. the most unselfish, giving and diverse country known to man.

I have often wondered when you are elected to go to Washington if they take you in a private room and tell you there is no God, honor, truth, integrity, faith and principles go right out the window. What happened to doing the right thing no matter what. i hope this is turning around with the midterms. we will watch, it is going to be very telling and interesting to watch who stands by their honor ! if we do not throw out anyone who does not, it will speak loud about who we are as Americans. if we don’t we will have public servants serving unchecked for years, just look how long some have been in Washington. nothing changes if nothing changes.

The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone?

But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that’s the system, Mr. Reardon, that’s the game, and once you understand it, you’ll be

      @fear the voices

Comparing the two is really apples and oranges. Israel and El Al are exponetially smaller than the US and all its airlines. El Al only handles 40 flights per day whereas; TSA has thousands.

The “profiling” El Al employs is not what you think it is. They don’t pick only on Arabs/Muslims because they are arabs/muslims. They scrutinize behavior, disposition, gestures, tone of voice and any related actions. Granted it is muslims who are often targeted but we all know why that is (some muslims seem to like to hyjack/blow up planes).

Instituting similiar practices here would be a good idea but some argue it won’t translate over to us very well. I speculate the reason for this is the quality of people working TSA checkpoints (not to mention their coming unionization).

The best route would be to privitize TSA.

      @Mr.Butcher

“Comparing the two is really apples and oranges. Israel and El Al are exponetially smaller than the US and all its airlines. El Al only handles 40 flights per day whereas; TSA has thousands.”

I’d wager a metric crap-ton of just about anything that if you took the average cost per 100 flights of El Als’ security and scaled it up to our daily averages, it would still be orders of magnitude lower than what we now spend on this ridiculous security theater and actually make people *safe*, which our current system *does not*, no matter how many scanners and groping sessions are added.

Even assuming you are correct that the El Al security model would be much more expensive here in the US, so what? What good is a cheaper system if it doesn’t work, actually worsens security, angers passengers, and as a bonus violates individual liberty and Constitutional rights?

We all know why they’re pushing the scanners; so that when the unions, Communist/Socialist radical groups, and other malcontents are told by Spooky Dude to start causing widespread riots and general mayhem, people won’t object too much when these machines are set up at checkpoints around residential areas, and the ones in vans used to scan inside people’s houses for “contraband” (read: guns, ammo, food, and proscribed media, books, & leaflets).

Every time, I get “selected” for the scanner, I opt for the pat down. Because they should endure the inconvenience just as much as I will. Further, the pat-down lasts for a moment, the scanner image lasts indefinitely.

Then ask the TSA employee, “How was I selected for further scrutiny?” and they will [quite often] say, “We select people at random in order to keep it fair and sample the population.” Or do we really believe children fit a threat profile?

Folks, random sampling is not “reasonable search and seizure.” Keep a record and file a complaint anywhere and everywhere. Begin with TSA, the airlines and your congressman’s office(s).

Defend the constitution, or be prepared to live without it. Know the 4th amendment. Know when it’s been violated too.

There’s something very wrong with this arrangement. Remember, if seems excessive, it probably is.

THERE ARE other technological and manual methods which will work without invading your privacy or assaulting your dignity and your rights (scanner image clarity OR the frisking)!

Otherwise, some suggest “crop-dusting.” ;^) You pick…lose your rights, or lose your couth. That’s gonna be a curious trend to report in the news!! Ewww

Isreal is not governed by idiots that are so desperate for votes that they will offend no one, even if it costs us citizens this kind of headache. Some say it is worth the cost to be safe, but they are not people who fly frequently for their jobs. If congress would do just one thing, I think it would work wonders. We all know that muslims claim to be peace loving, but not one will help put a stop to their extremists cousins. The reason why is because American citizens are the only ones being punished by these security measures. If those at the security checks would profile and stop only those who fit the description of our past terrorists, and if they would search the women all over their bodies and offend them and their Allah, it would not take long for them to start giving us some names and bring a stop to this. The past 2 years have shown us that our people in DC are corrupt cowards. We the people need to get this under control,we are the only ones that give a damn about us. And yes, I do agree that the headline on Obama should have stopped at ‘doesn’t have a clue’. If we had enough TSA agents to rub down Michele Obama’s bum-bum, maybe they would get the message, but that would grow the size of governement and we are trying to get a handle on that.

It’s so simple. Israel has the brains to profile airline passengers. We’re not looking for Swedes or Poles or Zimbabweans. If we have functioning brains, we’re looking for young male adult Middle Eastern Muslims. All the people — ALL of them — who have tried to kill us for the past 30-odd years are, without exception, young male adult Middle Eastern Muslims.

They make the excuse that we have too many air travelers to use the methods that Israel uses, but they could in fact do the same thing through multiplication, if they only wanted to. They simply are too politically correct to profile the enemy. Remember Obummer said we are not at war with Islam. And we are probably spending more money per passenger that they are too. This is insane.

If you are one that believes that the POTUS is systematically taking our economy apart, then the TSA issue would certainly fit nicely in the scheme of things wouldn’t it? I mean this can’t be good for business and air travel is big business in this country along with what tourism we have left during this slow economic meltdown. Then there is the fact that the scanner and tug and pull job all travelers are receiving isn’t really protecting their safety, just ask Israel. So why else would they do it ? I know that some people made a lot of money from these machines but if they are useless and I have it that they are then it‘s simply to wreck the airline industry and of course advance their Fascist or Marxist agenda take your pick what’s really the different when you have a boot on your neck. Then again maybe they want us to get really pissed and start something like Beck says.

If you were the president who is trying to drive the economy into the ground and the last unadulterated sector of the economy is the Airline industry, how do you destroy it? Ramp up the TSA to practically assault, expose and disrespect everyone who wants to fly until everyone boycotts the Airlines and they go further under than they already are.
