Since airport security horror stories seem to be the prevalent news item at the moment, Eyeblast released this video Tuesday which shows Adam Savage speaking to an audience at an event called wOOtstock 2.0 in Seattle last May. Savage, of Mythbusters fame, claims that he accidentally passed through one of the new controversial full-body scanners carrying two “12-inch razor blades.”

Posted on November 24, 2010 at 12:02amIn October of this year, I went through TSA with a carry-on that had several containers of lotion, shampoo and such – all over the limit. Forgetting that I had packed those items in my larger bag, I emptied my purse of ALL liquids and creams – like a good citizen. The carry-on bag went through TSA without a hitch. It wasn’t until I retrieved my belongings from the conveyor belt on the other side, that I realized what had just occurred. I calmly collected my stuff, smiled at the security agents and headed nervously to my gate – all the while BAFFLED at the inconsistencies of our “National Security”. It just proves that no matter what security measures are taken…there will always be mistakes. The plane could be loaded with explosives, but if no one on the plane intends to detonate them… then there is NO THREAT. The people are the threat not the “items”. Can anyone one say “box knives”? Anything can become a weapon in the wrong hands. TSA needs to look at the PEOPLE not the STUFF.

Posted on November 23, 2010 at 11:58pmObama is so totally weak on terrorists. He loves them, he love Osama Bin Laden, and supports Muslins in any way he can. Obama intends to bring Sharia Law to the US, along with a bunch of Muslims. So why is he accepting these invasive methods designed to prevent terrorists from penetrating American airplanes? Why all the murderous drone attacks on the Taliban in Pakistan? Because he loves terrorists, and he’s trying to provide cover for his actions. Perfect illusion. He’s covered his trail, and deprived Americans of their rights, and is promoting child molestation and pornography all at the same time! Nice try prez, but we’ve figured it out.
Obama, drop it okay? If terrorist blow up a plane, that’s your fault. You’re love terrorists. So let them bring their PETA bombs in to prove. STOP THE PRETENSE!

Posted on November 23, 2010 at 11:50pmWhat amazes and dismays me most about this is that of all the post and responses here not one of you mentioned the violation of our 4th amendment rights. You are more concerned about embarrassment and groping than about the idea that our gov’t can search you with no warrant or probable cause, They can arrest you and fine you if you don’t comply, but all you’re worried about is the embarrassment and the groping aspect.
If you think this will stay confined the the airports you’re out of your mind. The first time something happens at a coffee shop or a store you’ll start being searched there.
Do any of you consider that by searching everyone they are presuming guild till proven innocent?!

Posted on November 24, 2010 at 12:02amNice to see someone has a handle on what the true direction is. Coupled with “contingency ops = terrorist = selective “homeland security” = Gitmo terrorists rights = interchangeable rights with American Nationals = strip search (find weapon = pencil or pen) = imprisonment of “enemies of State” = Tea Partiers

Posted on November 23, 2010 at 11:22pmFirst of all “profiling” is not illegal. Racial profiling IS. Every wonder how you get selected to go to a scanner?
Look above you and you will see hundreds of black camera domes. There are TSA behavior specialist who look for certain things and radio to the screeners (look for the supervisor with the radio air bud) to send you to screening. This is called profiling. Cops do it all the time, perfectly legal. i.e. a person wearing a heavy coat in the summer time lurking in an alley way is going to get stopped rather than a person just walking home down the alley way. Its called criminal profiling.
What they do in Israel is much more. They run a criminal background check through their police and even intelligence agency on every passenger they also interview certain passengers from certain countries. Its similar to going through a secondary screening at a border crossing in the US where they check your prints, interview you, actually look into who you are and who you associate with. Very impractical to do this to 70 million people in the US who fly each year.
If you are a single person who shows up 2 hours before a flight and pays cash with a one way ticket you can bet they will look at you closer.
TSA agents arent cops, they have no arrest authority, they also have no criminal investigation training at all. They are low level inspectors, thats it. These arent security experts. They just went to the TSA 5 week basic screener class in Oklahoma City.

Posted on November 24, 2010 at 12:05amI’m all for profiling. It makes sense as opposed to this complete nonsense. This pc idea of trying to be fair to everyone is ridiculous and wasteful on so many levels.
A few years back (before it got out of hand) I was marked to be checked out more thoroughly and it irritated me a bit at first. Now I don’t know if I was profiled, it seemed to be totally random, but I got over it quick. I’m willing to put up with some inconvenience and longer lines to be safe, but this is crossing the line. There’s more effective ways to protect ourselves and all other options should be on the table first, from legal profiling to trained dogs.
Anyway I like your statement. I think TSA would be much more effective hiring Israeli trainers (and ex-military trainees) and start by asking skilled questions first.
There’s my two cents.

Posted on November 23, 2010 at 10:41pmNo real surprise here, standardized procedures become routine then lapses occur. I’m surprised it has taken 9+years for it to happen myself. Luckily he didn’t get caught, the TSA might decide he did it on purpose to embaress them. And if you think this proves the TSA and DHS are failures, then you clearly are unaware of their true long-term purpose.

Unionizing the TSA will make me feel soooooooooo much better. Then i know I can get a beat down by a Union Thug if I have this kind of mental lapse, well that is if they were to accidentally find it that is!
