See a High Schooler Score the Game-Winning Basket…For the Wrong Team!

Basketball Player Ryan Potocnik Scores Basket for Wrong TeamThis is painful to watch. Almost unbelievable. And you’ll probably feel bad for the kid by the end.

Ryan Potocnik, a high school senior, is a good basketball player. But for a moment, he made a very bad decision. His team, the Charlotte Christian Knights, was up 57-56 over the Norcross Blue Devils with 20 seconds left to go in a tournament in Georgia. In that time, Potocnik got the ball but started running the wrong way. Luckily, the ball was knocked out of bounds by the opponent. But unluckily, he got the ball again on the inbound and continued running the wrong way. He got to the basket and laid the ball in.

Here’s how SportsGrid describes it:

Apparently, he’d been going the wrong way on the play before, but caught a break when the ball went out of bounds. His coaches never pointed out to him that he was going the wrong way, however, and after getting an inbounds pass, he laid it in on the wrong hoop. Norcross (the other team) would sink two free throws to win the game 60-57.

Now here’s the heartbreaking moment (it starts at the 30-second mark):

No Big Deal, I saw much worse a few years ago and on a much larger scale.

Millions of Americans scored points for the opposing team. they went to the voting booth, and voted for Obama.

They scored points for communists the world over, they scored points for muslims, the slammed dunked for socialists, they ran touchdowns for the anti semetic, they hit a homerun for anti christians, they did a free throw for free loaders, they got a hole in one for the homosexuals, …..

Eh, trust me, this does happen from time to time. But, it’s obvious that maybe BB, or any sport requiring concentration is not this kids best pursuit. Geez, I’d hate to be him in the locker room after the game.. geez, poor kid.

Uh, “RANGERP”, if you are indeed a man who served our country faithfully, and trusted “tradition” in the military, I really feel for you bro, I thank you too for your service. But, it’s all too obvious that with the inbreeding and bloodletting thanks to Clinton,,, then the softness of Bush’s faux Conservatism,,, now Obama? Trust me,, there are many of us civilians who are very disgusted by the events going on in the military,, from allowing homosexuals to serve openly (or to serve at all for that matter) to allowing an atheist group to put on a concert on a military base,,, oh, and to advertise the fact. The atheists decided to kick it up a notch with a nice church burning video.. Trust me,, there are many of us civilians that are very much disgusted!!! God save us!

      @sundance_sp

Every day I get up and go to work, I wonder if it might be the day that speaking the truth causes me to lose my job. That day is coming, and I have no doubt about it. We have a military that runs on PC Kool Aid these days.

I coached for years and have seen this happen two other times. Both coaches were among the best around, but sometimes strange things just happen. This kid will survive and laugh about it years later at his reunions…

Not news worthy. You can go to any high school game and find a kid that makes a mistake that will cost his team a game or himself embarrassment. It is terrible that the video would be posted here, where I come to find real news

    Hey Mr. Seidl,

Understanding the ruthless nature of kids these days, how about we find another of the thousands of suitable “newsworthy” sport stories and spare this kid the added humiliation.

If this was a pro athlete, they would certainly deserve the derision and knee-slapping that would rightly accompany this spectacle, but this is a teenage student who happens to play basketball.

    End of story.

It would be nice if some consideration of “mercy” would enter your calculus.

Does Glenn still work there or own the place? Hmmmm.

Yeah, very nice Blaze…making a national story out of a kid’s devastating mistake?

Wasn’t his team already behind when he made that basket? Scoreboard said they were losing 57-56, so when he made that basket they’d be down 59-56, right? No guarantee they’d have tied it anyway, so unless the scoreboard was wrong it’s disingenuous to say he scored the winning basket for the other team. They were already behind.
