See Dad and Son Catch 7-Foot Shark in a Kayak!

Hunter Stevens and his dad, Kevin, decided to go fishing off the Texas coast near Galvaston, and they reeled in the catch of a lifetime — a 7-foot shark. That’s incredible in and of itself. But the fact that they caught it in a tiny kayak makes the story even more incredible. Nine-year-old Hunter caught the whole thing on video:

    A flip of the tail and these two would have been in the water with a shark that is know to be aggressive.

    Stupid.

    That is insane, considering how sharks have been known to bite into surfboards and even bite into garbage by mistaking it for food. If they bit or even pierced into into that kayak with their teeth – they would have been screwed.

      No worries. Blacktips are relatively harmless. This one is probably not alive after that ordeal. Would have been nice for the father to teach his son about quick releases on a catch your not taking home instead of needlessly bobbing him in the water. Shark probably swam off like a rock.

      I doubt that the 7 foot creature died after this. Just so you know, anything with gills can continue to breathe so long as the gills remain wet. It is true that sharks need far more oxygen than a standard perch, but the shark didn’t suffocate and die. Also, that hook and leader will only last about a week in saltwater before it rusts away enough to fall out completely. A shark that size could live for alot longer without food.

      @SGTB

      Just so you know, not everything with gills continues to breathe as long as they are wet. Black tip sharks are obligate ram ventilators, which mean they have to swim continuously to breathe. Also, just so you know, I’ve caught many black tips off of Bolivar, Crystal Beach, and Galveston Bay. The majority of the bigger sharks, 4 foot plus, are almost always gassed out by the time you land them, which means you will be holding the shark upright in the surf till he comes to, unless you want it rolling in with the waves 5 min later. Judging by your gill comment, I assume you have never caught a shark and know very little about the subject.

    Love fishing out of Kayaks. I’m glad he let the shark swim off.It was a good lesson for his son. Sharks are becoming endangered in many areas because of idiots killing them for Chinese medicine. They have been on ths earth way before man and will probably be here after we are gone if we don’t exterminate them. When I fish I almost always release when I don’t it is for a meal.

    That probably wasn‘t Pelosi because the shark’s skn was smooth. If we saw Pelosi naked in the water we would see so many wrinkles and varicose veins that you would think you were looking at the terrain of a toy railroad track and train set.

    Nuts….. next one may be 12ft or bigger and then decide not to let them go back. Little tiny kayaks are something you will ever find me in. Was cruising around some islands in Maine in a 23 ft cuddy cabin. Not making very good time as swells were 6-7ft high. Out in the freaking middle of the bay, I come down the back side of one wave and nearly take out a liberal in a kayak. No flag, nothing to help me see him…. someone in a 40-50ft boat may have never seen him at all and just chopped him to pieces in the props. Maybe it’s “gutsy”…. but I call it nuts to hunt something that could be as big or bigger than the watercraft you’re occupying.

      The larger boat always has the right of way. This is the law. If an idiot on a kayak doesn’t know that, he’ll get run over soon enough.

    Idiots. “it’s ok folk…it will survive”
    any fool can kill a shark and they just did.
    A protracted recovery has left this shark vulnerable to predation by other sharks.Their fecundity is not the same as other fish.
    Get them in quick take a picture and cut the leader while it still has gas, not when it is moving like a cut piling. Standard procedure for real game fishermen. In 4 hours of tarpon or ***** fishing I can go through 2 rigs an hour to sharks. Its no big deal. Get them in fast, cut them loose as every other shark w/in a half mile knows there is a half dead fish waiting for them.

      Well I hardly think there is any reason to take God’s name in vain over a fish story…!

      I just hope the fish wasn’t hurt too much… It was sure being held out of the water for a long time… Sharks are intelligent creatures!
