See Deaf 2-Year-Old’s Incredible Reaction When He Hears Mom for the First Time

Just a few days ago, we brought you the touching video of a young girl who was fitted with an Esteem implant that allowed her to hear the little things she couldn’t before. Now, another video has emerged showing what is reportedly a 2-year-old boy being fitted with a similar implant who hears his mother’s voice for the first time.

Go grab the Kleenex.

At first, Cooper knows something is up, but he really gets going when his mother says his name. After realizing it is the connection on his ear that is allowing him to hear, Cooper keeps pointing back up to the device throughout the clip.

Watch for yourself as Cooper is at first startled and then thrilled at the sound of his mother’s voice:

We cannot verify exactly when this even took place but it began going viral on the web on Thursday.

The Huffington Post also includes this simiral viral video — that has more than 3.3 million views since its 2008 posting — that shows an 8-month-old fitted with an implant and listening to his mother’s voice:

Thanks to Obama the device will be subject to the medical device tax soon. I wonder how many won’t be able to afford it when that gets passed down to consumers… He’s a turd.

Thanks to the Conservative outlook on stem cell research, this boy is forced to use that device in the first place.

You can hate the symptom (high cost for medical devices), I choose to hate the disease (the restriction on medical research).

      @VoteBushIn12
      3 problems with your statement.

      1) A lack of understanding of stem cells:
-There are 2 types of stem cells, Adult and Embryonic.

      2) A lack of understanding of the law:
-No restrictions were placed on adult cells and thousands of advances have come from them. No restrictions were placed on embryonic cells either only on how they were harvested (ie scientists growing embryos for farming and aborted babies were banned but cells from a placenta were not).

      3) It is an unsubstantiated claim that researchers would have found a cure had stem cell research not been “restricted”.

@ VoteBushin12 Clearly you don’t understand the debate. The limitations on embryonic stem cells are on how they are harvested. Only a very small fraction of people support killing babies and/or creating embryos in a lab for the sake of destroying them and harvesting stem cells. Of course, those people are Progressive and come from a line of Eugenic supporting thugs. In fact, they are the same Progressives who support aborting babies with this kind of disability, or for having the wrong sex, or for having the wrong color skin. So… take your Margaret Sanger worshiping and deranged self to a cold dark hole somewhere. Your Nihilist belief system is vile and inhumane.

Way to spin this moment in a child’s life for your partisan teams, boys. And, yes, many progressives have been fooled into believing humanity has been robbed of THE panacea that will ‘cure’ everything from Alzheimer‘s to Parkinson’s by evil busybodies. This is what happens when you base opinion on a Family Guy episode or the ramblings of leftist celebrities and NOT actual science.

Funny how some can only spout what they are programmed to do. I understand why their ilk always views mankind as dependent, they are not even free enough to witness a technological miracle and feel some happiness, warm compassion, and love.

I don’t hate or despise progressives, I mourn for them. So sad.

When the baby here dropped his block and was startled by the clang of hit hitting the floor it gave me the biggest smile. He was shocked at such a sound! Magnificent. Truly. I can’t wait to walk my dog through the woods tonight and listen to the raccoon and possums scurrying through the brush. They sound different every time. It’s videos like this that make you appreciate the little things and how far our Judeo-Christian principles have brought us! Only in a world with God loving people could mankind have focused long enough to make the strides we have in modern technological advancements. This is why we owe such things to God. Unfortunately too many people have either forgotten or haven’t truly ever understand the PHILOSOPHY that has gotten us to this point. But it’s good spending time with those that do get it, and trying to always show those that don’t.

Anyone who knows about stem cell research knows two things:

      1) Adult stem cells are not nearly as pluropotent as Embryonic stem cells.
      2) Embryonic stem cells, by definition, have to come from a Embryo

Don’t talk to me about “restrictions for harvesting” of them when the restrictions completely restrict the act. I.e., “I‘m not saying it’s illegal for you to drink beer, but it’s illegal for anyone to make, buy, sell, or distribute it”. When you’ve ruled out all forms of creation, the fact that utilization of it is allowed becomes trivial.

As far as Eugenics go, I have my own beliefs on that, but I will save it for another time.

FYI, the debate in the Deaf Community is very split about giving a deaf child the ability to hear. Forget stem cells, they want you to accept them as deaf and not try to make them hearing at all. They don‘t care about if there is a ’cure,’ technological or not. You are making a debate about something there isn’t a debate about yet. The topic of CI‘s in the Deaf Community are a lot like the discussions of atheists and their belief the religious ’brainwash’ their children. The educated deaf elite are determined that there should be no technology and the deaf should be left alone as they are – while the normal deaf person would love to actually hear. Check out at my blog noellecampbell.com for more issues of Deaf Culture clashing with the Hearing Culture.

VoteBush, I suggest you follow your own advice. Look up pluripotency. Then look up induced pluripotency. Then look up research dating back a *decade* on the subject & the many avenues we’ve discovered along the way to find pluripotent stem cells – from placental blood to bone marrow to the pancreas. *All of which are still legal.

The articles you provide don’t prove the merit of embryonic stem cell research, I’m afraid. “Anyone who knows about stem cell research knows two things” strongly reminded me of Reagans quote re: liberals “knowing so much that isn’t so” – all assumptions regarding your political leanings aside.

Third World nations have their people living in horrible conditions when Mega Million Dollar Fighter Jets sit out on their airport tarmacs. In Somalia the cost of one of their fighter jets could feed their people and provide clean water for several years. Is there anything in Somalia and other Third World Nations worth defending with jet fighters?

Deafness is a severe handicap, and while society helps such, simply because it is the RIGHT thing anybody with half a brain would do, for a parent to not allow their child to hear is absolutely immoral.

From how many careers and experiences are the deaf eliminated?

      Pilots, law enforcement, astronauts?

      And music?

      The list goes on.

Deafness also endangers life because vision is restricted in ways hearing is not. Sound is a 360 degree sense and has saved people from everything from unseen cars, to a falling ton of bricks, to dangerous animals.

The argument has been made by such parents to leave their child deaf until the kid is old enough to choose for himself, but the hearing center of the brain, if not develped within the first years of life, NEVER develops, so a teenager can never use such devices even if they wanted to.

A parent chosing to keep their child deaf is a prime example of insane, most likely liberal, thinking.

Thank you, Adolf Hitler! I cannot believe how much your comment bleeds w/ ignorance.

So spending thousands of $$ to have doctors drill a hole in your child’s brain just 2 have cords sticking out of them for everyone 2 stare & point at, hindering them from swimming at the pool w/ their friends, constantly changing their batteries, & frequently switching between a “hard-of-hearing person“ to a ”deaf person,” because of natural abundance of sweat, in comparison to just allowing their son/daughter to live normally is “immoral”?? (And Yes, I say “hard-of-hearing person“ instead of ”hearing” b/c Cochlear Implants do NOT *restore* hearing, it *revives* hearing–there is a difference.)

Individuals w/ Cochlear Implants still have 2 rely on lip-reading 2 understand what others are saying, & most end up learning ASL & affiliate themselves with the Deaf. & by the way, Beethoven, the famous musician, was deaf so check music off your stupid list.

Deaf people understand vibrations. They can feel helicopters flying overhead & point to the exact location b4 the copter is even visible, as well as the loud bass playing in people’s car stereos, trains crossing, or sirens blaring down the road.

Therefore, a parent choosing to leave their child deaf, is a prime example of parents who accept their child’s divinity, and doesn’t need to “fix” them to be “normal.” Don‘t you ever wonder why some people with out limbs don’t wear prosthetics? They like being

While it doesn’t take away from the awesomeness of these type of stories, I do have a bone to pick with the Blaze regarding these stories.

With all of these posts about this, you’d think “reporters” or “journalists” or whatever you call yourselves would learn the difference between the Esteem implant by Envoy Medical and a Cochlear Implant. There is a difference both in appearance, application, and what type of hearing loss they address. I‘m pretty sure Envoy is or at least was an advertiser on GB’s radio program.

Where did anyone portray the two methods as identical?

The reporter calls the boy’s implant “similar”.
Both devices utilize the movement of the bones of the cochlea to produce electronic signals
That’s a pretty “similar” approach to me.
Kinda’ hard to argue with that one.

Beck has discussed Esteem on his show and I believe he has been involved in at least one case of providing financial assistance for someone to get an Esteem implant.
That’s not the same as being a paid endorser; moreover I doubt either party would consider the “paid spokesman” route a wise idea.
You don’t usually generally find that type of advertising in the medical products world.

How any of this has mutated in your mind as a bad thing baffles me.

      To GGATHAGAN,

Sorry, I don’t know what is the proper capitalization of your name is due to the way the Blaze makes names all caps.

To the point. My comment wasn’t just about this story. It was about all of the recent ones the Blaze has been posting. Indeed, in this very story the first line is as follows:

“Just a few days ago, we brought you the touching video of a young girl who was fitted with an Esteem implant that allowed her to hear the little things she couldn’t before.”

That included a link to the referenced story. The problem is that the girl in that story didn’t have an Esteem implant (EI). Nope. She had a cochlear implant (CI). The other girl in that other story about the other girl did have an EI. Confused yet? Don’t worry, so is the Blaze. My point is that it the difference between a CI and the EI should be obvious to anybody that does a cursory “investigation” about them. You can’t see an EI, while a CI you can see most of it. Contrary to what you said, a CI does NOT use the bones in the ear. It stimulates the nerve directly. An EI DOES use the bones. Inner ear (CI) vs middle ear (EI).

Envoy Medical (Esteem makers) have been a sponsor of his show. I went to my archives of captured audio of his radio program and verified it. He has done live voice commercials as well as recorded spots. This is in addition to his personal and gifting of the device. I hedged only because I wasn’t sure if I was confusing this with Rush, w

What millions of us take for granted every day that some people don‘t have or just can’t do. It’s great that Esteem is able to do this. I’m wondering if this is done through the families insurance, donation, or a grant?

I have heard from many folks that these new implants can be overwhelming and some come with regret. The good news is you can unplug if it becomes too much. My deaf family member refuses to get one for that reason but she has lived her 50 of her 52 years completely deaf an the noise isn’t something she wants, I completely understand that nothing wrong with being content, and that the level of noise we all live with daily could be a horrible shock to some where we rarely consciously hear it anymore. amazing for the youth deaf to be able to grow up hearing, God bless it I love seeing these videos especially of the young prayers for the families

puravida56: How do you know God? He answered the prayers of this family. Was not the technology made available for this miracle of science? God uses whatever methods He chooses to answer our prayers. Not our choice… His. God and Science are not mutually exclusive.

@dontbotherme. The bottom line is over the last million years of human history, god has never gave hearing back to a deaf kid until man thought of how to do it. God has never regrown a limb either. One day a real smart man will learn how to do it. Then you will give God credit for his discovery. God and science are not mutually exclusive. God gets credit for the invention of scientists.

This is a heart warming story that brought tears to my eyes. The scientists are good!

@puravida56 – How could you possibly know what God has not done that in the the last million years. LOL Biblically speaking, he has given sight to the blind. He could easily do the same for the deaf. I have family members that have been mysteriously cured without the help of doctors. Anyway, God could easily do it in all cases, but he put doctors on this earth for a reason. Furthermore, we do give doctors credit for what they do. But some of us also give God thanks for making it possible to have that doctor available to us. In a similar way, I thank my doctor for curing a neurolgical disorder that I suffered in my youth. But I also thank God for leading me to him and for his unique procedure. I don’t blame God or feel spite for not being magically, directly cured. In fact, it made me a better person.
