See Glenn Gut a Fish On-Air…to Prove a Point About the Media

Yes, you read that headline right. It’s probably best to let Glennbeck.com explain:

There isn’t much more to say about this other than you have to watch it to believe it. Glenn’s love for props went to a new level (yeah, pretty sure this beats the frog) as he decided to gut fish (poorly) while giving commentary on the state of the mainstream media. Seriously, where were the producers (Stu? Pat? Tiffany?) to stop him when he started just going to town on the fish head? Those of us in the newsroom all thought he was going to lose a finger!

Here’s the video that is sure to become a media classic:

      “We [Arabs] have become extinct,” said Syrian poet Adonis in a March 11 Dubai television interview transcribed by the Israeli media monitor MEMRI, [1] but ignored by the mainstream Western media. The prognosis by Adonis, the only Arabic writer on the Nobel Prize short list, for the Arab prospect has become more bleak over the years, and his latest pronouncement has a Spenglerian finality.

      “We have become extinct … We have the masses of people, but a people becomes extinct when it no longer has a creative capacity, and the capacity to change its world … The great Sumerians became extinct, the great Greeks became extinct, and the Pharaohs became extinct,” he said.

      If the Arabs are so inept that they cannot be democratic by themselves, they can never be democratic through the intervention of others. If we want to be democratic, we must be so by ourselves. But the preconditions for democracy do not exist in Arab society, and cannot exist unless religion is re-examined in a new and accurate way, and unless religion becomes a personal and spiritual experience, which must be respected.
      The trouble, he added, is that Arabs do not want to be free. Asked why Arabs glorify dictatorships, Adonis responded as follows:
      I believe it has to do with the concept of “oneness”, which is reflected – in practical or political terms – in the concept of the hero, the savior, or the leader. This concept offers an inner sense of security to people who are afraid of freedom {

      Not one reporter is talking about corruption in politics? Really? Not one reporter has talked about how special interests group control our government with lobbyists? Really?

      I would love it if Glenn did a special on this particular facet of the corruption that is DC, but this is just that… another facet. We know money is setting government policy. We just don’t how to fix it. How do you make it so the people with all the power can’t figure out how to translate that power into personal wealth? It’s a difficult problem, as this story demonstrates. Favors can be traded based on future promises. How do you block that?

      It is absolutely essential that we figure out how to get money out of politics. But how do we do that in a manner that can’t easily be worked around?

      @DrFrost (the name makes me think of CS Lewis)

      Actually, though I think you are on the right track, we do know how to fix it and Glenn is on about it all the time. Influence of capitalism on government (and of government in capitalism) happens when government regulates too much.

      As long as there is over regulation and a labyrinthine tax system, there is influence to buy.

      Cut back regulation to the bare minimum so that a *well* educated population regulate capitalism (through demand), simplify the tax structure so that industries no longer can buy loopholes and stop the federal (and state) governments from funding industries and we may finally begin to take the crony out of capitalism.

      Until then we will have this mess and capitalism rather than cronyism will be blamed.

      Guess who gets it? Many of the Occupyers. Not the ones you’re shown, but the ones we see on open mic and at GA.

      “Jack Abramoff may be the most notorious and crooked lobbyist of our time. He was at the center of a massive scandal of brazen corruption and influence peddling. As a REPUBLICAN LOBBYIST starting in the mid 1990s, he became a master at showering gifts on lawmakers in return for their votes on legislation and tax breaks favorable to his clients (insert 1%.) He was so good at it, he took home $20 million a year.”
      They get that it happens on both sides. This is EXACTLY the point of OWS. Credit to you FL123!

      @tifosa
      The problem with OWS is that, while like the Tea party it hates crony capitalism, it also looks at the the problem backwards. It vilifies capitalism when cronyism (and the over reach of government) are the real problems.

      For instance, the banks wouldn’t have needed the bail out if there had not been regulations encouraging (sometimes forcing) the banks to make bad loans. Did some capitalists jump on board and take more than their share? Yup, but it was fanny and freddy government out there supporting the whole scam. All of that disrupted any normally operating self regulation (an integral part of a healthy capitalist system) that would have curbed the whole mess.

      Lesson: It is NOT the capitalist system that failed, It is NOT capitalism that is “naturally” predatory, it is government that has reached beyond its required responsibility of protecting individual rights that is our enemy.

      So you see, OWS has got the chicken and the egg all mucked up

      @Florida, who said “Glenn is becoming part of the problem”

      Since when does my GBTV subscription money go toward funding YOUR concerns over GLENNs equipment and resources?

      Why dont you tell me how much that you PERSONALLY SPENT getting this message out. Why should Glenn spend $5000 per minute, dealing with a message that YOU deem important (so much so that you claim Glenn is becoming a problem for not doing it). As a matter of fact, if you are not paying Glenn for any services on HIS equipment, then what in the hell, are you doing, posting that garbage on The Blaze (his equipment/servers) which I am helping to fund, when I am quite content on the content that he provides me?

      Florida — put up, or shut up; but stop whining because you are not directing the show. You want a show? You want to voice your concerns? BUILD ONE and do it yourself. Take responsibility, so that I can then get on YOUR server and posting services, and claim that YOU are becoming part of the problem, for not providing the information that I am getting from GBTV/The Blaze.

      Starting to get the picture, dear?

There is a much better method. I know the fish cleaning was to prove some kind of point. I was wondering if Glenn heard a comment from O’Reilly or some other refined news media person saying that watching the Glenn Beck news media was like watching someone cleaning fish is why he did it. I love Glenn‘s down to earth personality and approach and I love the fact that he doesn’t pretend to be something he is not. We need more people like Glenn in media and all walks of life. Watching and listening to most news personalities makes my butt want a dip of snuff!
