See How a Cool New Sensor Can Detect Any Date Rape Drug in Your Drink

Stop. Stir before you sip. Two Israeli scientists have developed a date rape drug detector that works instantly and is 100 percent accurate.

Once manufactured for the public, a sensor would be dipped into a drink, and if spiked with a date rape drug like GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyric acid) and ketamine, it would let the user know in real time if their drink is safe. The developers have not decided how it will alert the drinker but it will be discrete: light up, spin or send a message to your cell phone. They are also working on making it sensitive to Rohypnol (roofies), another common date-rape drug.

Date Rape Drug Detected by Sensor in Future

Scientists have developed a sensor to detect date rape drugs. They are working to add Rohypnol (ruffiess) to the list of drugs it can detect. (mmonly used to sedate the victims of date rape. (Med India)

Professor Fernando Patolsky and Doctor Michael Ioffe of Tel Aviv University’s school of chemistry tested the sensor in a variety of drinks — cocktails and soft drinks — making sure the device would work every time no mater the mixer. It did.

AFP has more:

You just dip it into your drink, it might actually look like a stirrer in the final production, it’s tiny, very tiny,” Ioffe told AFP.

“And you don’t even have to hold it up to the light and the system will let you know whether there are drugs dissolved in your drink.”

See how it works in this Jerusalem Post video (chemical reaction happens about 1:05 into the video):

The scientists say the chemcial components of the sensor are nontoxic and affordable to produce.

Aye, and Secret Squirrel, it also happens in bars by bartenders setting up for one or another person who eventually just comes in to “rescue the girl” when she’s suddenly unable to walk straight.

There are also many many cases where close friends, and sometimes even relatives have used such drugs on their unsuspecting victims.

The reality is you just have to be careful, look for odd signs, vet people, but in the end, this is the best way to handle the problem outright, as it makes it easier to oust anyone in public.

People shouldn’t be cowed at home by fears. You need to go out and meet people or you won’t ever expand your friendships, or perhaps never meet that significant other in a random event. Happens all the time.

Sad…. What ever happen to personal responsibility? Raping a woman is wrong wrong wrong. Common sence will tell you that. On the other hand this is a two sided issue. Nothing is just one side’s fault… ever. I do hope this is as effective as they claim and as cheap to make as they claim. If so I can see bar owners purchasing them and using it as a selling point. Ladies night, woman’s drinks are 1/2 off. Ladies we provide free of charge a drink stirrer that help let you know if that gentleman you just met is really a gentleman.

Because there are a few girls out there who aren‘t giving it away and some punks want to take it from them because they can’t have it any other way. Fortunately there are a few young people out there who respect themselves enough not to take their clothes off for everything with legs. That goes for both sexes. Sadly they are far and few between.

Did the bar scene for the first time in my mid 40’s for about two weeks.
      That was a disastrous decision.
One Friday evening, a strikingly attractive woman sat down directly across the bar.
Nearly every male at the bar offered to buy her a drink except yours truly.
In twenty minutes, she bought yours truly a cocktail and moved to the stool next to me.
She was intelligent, friendly, attentive, very touching and her perfume was hauntingly rich.
Her resemblance to Linda Carter was astounding and ring shadows were absent.

After finishing that cocktail, we were on our way to her place, in her sports car.
The last things clearly recalled; the bartender’s wink, red and orange dash lights, the smell of Italian leather, the distinctive pitch of a twelve-cylinder engine and a giant brass door latch.
In the morning, there was no recollection of the evening and the body ached in new places.

A note left on my belt buckle, “Coffee in the kitchen, be out by noon.”
Nothing in the wallet was missing but the memory of the event was gone.
Finding the way to the front door to identify the address was a trip, as the home was huge but sparsely furnished, only a few outfits hung in the wardrobe and there was no artwork or pictures anywhere.
Called a taxi and went to retrieve my car … two towns away and across the bay.
Haven’t been to a bar since.

Didn’t hear that. I did hear a rumor that the date rape drug was used by your dad on your sister and welcomed you into the family. I heard you were invited on the show to answer the rumors. But you haven’t done that, even though you had all this time knowing about this rumor to correct it (if it is untrue), you have done nothing at all–now, I don‘t want to say your dad is guilty, but isn‘t it a little strange that you haven’t answered this allegation to put this rumor to rest? I mean, if your dad is innocent he’s got nothing to hide right? Since you haven’t gone public with the denial, we can all assume it is true.
Sounds pretty ridiculous huh. Or is The Third Archon inbred?

Is he actually using something approaching a realistic concentration? Dissolving the drug in the little bit of liquid he’s showing would make the concentration huge. Dissolving the drug in an 8 oz glass of wine or highball wouldn’t result in such a large concentration. Yes, same amount of drug, very different amount of liquid to test.

I think the key here is that the chemical composition of the alcohol changes and that is what the detector is programmed to find. The actual drug has a specific chemical make up which is the signature that the detector is identifying.

Yes, but in what concentration? There can be WMD-type gas around, but it won’t set off alarms until it reaches a certain concentration.

That is awesome. This is the kind of innovention that cannot happen in a country where big government wants to regulate everything to death. Something like this should be enough to win a Nobel Prize, but we know that won’t happen, since they‘re too busy giving that honor to presidents who haven’t done anything and ex-vice presidents who promote global warming scams..
